PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS 2019-2020
CHILDREN’S ART AUCTION PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project aims to create an income generating project for institutions supported by Rotary El Tahrir to replace direct donations. The project is especially suited for children either in special needs homes or orphanages. It helps develop or enhance the talents of children to draw and produce modern works of art that people would be willing to bid on a hang in their homes. The project also provides individuals a worthy cause to support with bids that maybe far beyond the actual worth of the artwork. The art pieces would be sold at a fancy Gala Dinner, organized and hosted by Rotary El Tahir with invitees including dignitaries and the crème-de-la-crème of Egyptian society. The project can be implemented at least twice a year and can also be done with several orphanages/special needs schools. OBJECTIVES: 1. Enhance and develop the artistic talents of children. 2. Create an annual or bi-annual event that both promotes Rotary El Tahrir as well as the artworks of disenfranchised children. 3. Develop a cause that allows people to donate money to a charitable institution without a direct donation and far beyond the worth of the art piece itself. 4. Support efforts to implement sustainable development projects that do not require Rotary El Tahrir’s direct intervention in the coming years. This allows the institutions to continue with the project over the coming years and to free-up Rotary El Tahrir resources for other projects TIME TO IMPLEMENT: 6 months TIME TO COMPLETE: Continuous every six months RESOURCES: • An art teacher or an artist to guide the children, their supervisors/teachers to the types of artwork required as well as the techniques to be used. • Art supplies • Gala Dinner Event KEY STAKEHOLDERS: Organizations such as Dar El Hana PROJECT BUDGET: LE. 20,000 for art supplies (Gala Dinner will be reimbursed from ticket sales).
TRAIN-THE-TRAINER PROGRAM PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is not really a new project. What this project intends, is to expand the scope of this training so that EVERY project Rotary El Tahrir does with any form of organization, there is a succession group able to continue the project without the continuous assistance of El Tahrir. This allows organizations to be self-sufficient, provides continuity and allows for El Tahrir resources to be applied elsewhere. OBJECTIVES: 1. Provides continuity. 2. Creates a succession plan and a second line of operationally trained practitioners. 3. Trains in-house resources to continue the project in the future without El Tahrir. 4. OBJECTIVES: 1. Enhance and develop organizations to produce marketable products. 2. Create an annual or bi-annual event that both promotes Rotary El Tahrir as well as the handy-craft works of disenfranchised children. 3. WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP PROGRAM PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Women face unique challenges in the workplace but they also add unique value and perspective. They shatter groupthink, improve communications dynamics, and reinvigorate companies in ways that make them more competitive. Despite compelling evidence that more diversity in senior management ranks increases organizational performance, the proportion of women in key leadership roles remains low in most organizations. Women face a unique set of challenges when progressing into senior leadership positions, including unconscious bias, a scarcity of role models, and a peer group that continually shrinks the more senior they become. These can make striving for the top a lonely and frustrating endeavour even in organizations with the best intentions to support their top female talent. Women executives rarely have an opportunity to come together and share their leadership experiences in a learning environment that has direct relevance and personal impact. The Women’s Leadership Program is designed to create just this environment. It addresses leadership issues that affect all executives, in a forum that hones in on the unique challenges women encounter. It creates a network of today’s senior women leaders, empowering them to take hold of their careers and aim for the top. In addition to the possibilities of tailoring the program to suit the Egyptian work environment, The Professional Development Foundation (PDF), an Egyptian entity that has collaborated with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in the United States of America in North Carolina, to provide a ready-made program that has been already tried and tested. Also, of note is the DG elect Sherif Wally is on the Board of Directors of PDF. OBJECTIVES: o Hear cutting-edge ideas about leadership, and learn tried and tested techniques that can be applied to overcome the unique challenges faced by women leaders. o Develop greater confidence and a better understanding of personal leadership style, enabling women to carry out and lead change effectively within your business. o Work with a professional coach to develop clear aims for ongoing personal and professional development o Access a community of peers.

CREDIT CARD POINTS TOWARDS PLANTING A TREE PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Most banks in Egypt ,and around the world, have a credit card that supports some cause or provides users with points to be redeemed with particular entities. Examples include CIB’s credit cards that earn points/miles with Egypt Air and Bank of America’s Card that earns points for the World Wildlife Foundation. This project would partner with a particular bank operating in Egypt to issue a credit card that earns points that would go towards planting a tree in Egypt. This would constitute a positive GREEN corporate social responsibility initiative for the bank and a major contribution by Rotary El Tahrir towards the environment. Once a particular number of “points” are collected, Rotary El Tahrir and the partner bank would invite an Egyptian dignitary to plant a tree in a particular area determined by the Ministry of the Environment and make a public relations event out of it. It encourages the bank, Rotary El Tahrir and the general public using the credit card to support environmental efforts and contribute towards a worthy cause. The events surrounding the planting of the trees exhibits that the money/points are actually being used for the greater good. OBJECTIVES: 1. Contribute to the environment in Egypt. 2.
