‫‪A MESSAGE‬‬ ‫‪I follow in the footsteps of giants and in‬‬ ‫‪FROM THE‬‬ ‫‪the most unusual of circumstances.‬‬ ‫‪PRESIDENT‬‬ ‫‪RC of ElTahrir is a giant in terms of its‬‬ ‫‪history and its projects. It is the largest‬‬ ‫‪club in the number of members and‬‬ ‫‪we currently have some 9 Mega‬‬ ‫‪Projects that have been around for‬‬ ‫‪years.‬‬ ‫‪This year is no different. Despite the‬‬ ‫‪lockdown from the Covid-19‬‬ ‫‪pandemic and the challenges of‬‬ ‫‪fundraising for projects and‬‬ ‫‪implementing them on the field, we will‬‬ ‫‪all adapt to the new precautionary‬‬ ‫‪measures to ensure the safety of our‬‬ ‫‪members and we will find innovative‬‬ ‫‪ways to communicate and raise funds.‬‬ ‫‪We must look at technology as our‬‬ ‫‪friend. We must learn from the‬‬ ‫‪younger generations to embrace‬‬ ‫‪technology and harness it for our‬‬ ‫‪cause. We are not only million neighbors, friends, leaders, dedicated to achieve the global sustainable and problem-solvers who see a world development goals, and the District where people unite and take action objectives, to become a better community to create lasting change – across the and improve our country, but we are also globe, in our communities, and in dedicated to each other, the Tahrir Family, to support and grow our club members. We are 6 ourselves.\" a a group of career professionals from the public, and private sectors and civil society. Now we are 67 members, under presidency of Ms. Hala Allawy (Club President 2020-2021), Vice President (Leila Massoud) and 25 committees, each with its own activities, all with the aim of developing individuals and society, which will benefit the whole country.

ELTAHRIR 1st CLUB ASSEMBLY 8

NEWS RC of ElTahrir started the year on July 13 with its online Club Assembly, which is the first of six Assemblies expected this year. The Zoom meeting was attended by 35 members from the comfort and safety of their homes to hear President Hala Allawy explain her Strategic Plan for 2020-2021 and get members ideas and feedback on the presented ideas. RC of ElTahrir’s Strategy for this Rotarian year is a continuation of last year’s strategy which concentrates on four pillars, Human Capital Development, Sustainable Development, Community Outreach and Partnerships. The Clubs own Areas of Focus include Women, Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology, the Environment, Sustainable Development and Youth. These areas will be consolidated with the Rotary International’s six areas of focus on each project level. RC of ElTahrir’s initiatives include working within the Greater Cairo Area, aligning its projects with the Egypt 2030 Plan, cluster with other clubs working in a particular area or on a specific topic, grow its ongoing projects into Mega Projects, increase its use of technology in the daily operations of the club and develop the skills of ElTahrir members. In addition to launching several new projects and initiatives, RC of ElTahrir also aims to be a major player to the District Governor’s intended projects which include a Rotary trauma and Emergency Hospital and renovating classroom for Special Needs children. 9

ELTAHRIR \"SYoauvre MFLaaifsceke” s With COVID-19 so prevalent in our daily lives, RC of El Tahrir’s Shireen El Halaby, Mohamed El Badawi and supported by Dr. Ahmed Al Bakari, decided early in July to manufacture protective face masks and distribute them to the general public. Funds were gathered from Members which enabled us to produce about 600 washable cloth masks that adhere to published health specifications. These masks were sold to Club members for a small profit that was intern used to manufacture more masks. On Monday, 13 July, several members went to newly developed Ain AlSira Touristic area to distribute the masks among workers and other beneficiaries. RC of ElTahrir was joined by RC of Sakkara. Over 500 masks were provided to laborers on the project as well as surrounding services such as food carts, Tok Tok transport and street cleaners. Income from this project will go to finance two other projects, the RC of ElTahrir Medical Cards and the Nour El Oyoun Association for Special Needs. 10

The RC of ElTahrir’s ELTAHRIR long-awaited “reunion” was held on July 27, with some 35 Tahririans , including five new potential members, gathered around the swimming pool of Safir Hotel, in the fresh air, with every precaution taken. The meeting aimed at discussing ongoing and new projects for 2020-2021. Following a welcome remark by President Hala Allawy and a statement by Assistant Governor Abdel Rahman Soliman, the evening began with five-minutes awareness about the different types of clubs in Rotary by Nevine Abdelkhalek, who also explained her projects which are the Tbilisi Global Grant, University 2 Work Program’s 12th session and the 33 scholarships on offer by Neopolis University, Cyprus. Other projects and speakers included Nayera AbdelWahab about Nour El Oyoun project and the Riverbank Filtration (RBF) project with the District. 12

NEWS Gehane Halawa talked about The Clothes for a PROJECTS REVIEW MEETING Cause Drive at Cairo and Helwan Universities and 13 the Aghour Hemodialysis Center. Nesrine Rifaat recounted the three current projects at Dar ElHana Orphanage which include “Colorful Thoughts” where the boys color wooden chairs and sell to the public, the “Life Fitness” program which includes exercise as well as life skills, the on- going donations to the orphanage. Yvonne Ishak talked about RC of ElTahrir’s work with the Leprosy Colony and Dina ElShayeb about her work with providing prosthetic limbs. Shireen ElHalaby explained the outcomes of the new Face Masks Project and that the income from this endeavour will finance the Medical Cards Project which was detailed by Dr. Ahmed Al Bakary, as well as the rejuvenation of the Nour El Sabah Association, president Hala Allawy’s pet project for this year. Allawy also explained on behalf of speakers who could not attend the Heart2Heart Project, the Plant a Tree Project, and the For Your Eyes Only Project. Tahririans also celebrated July birthdays and Dina ElManzalawy getting her doctorate degree.

ELTAHRIR COLORFUL THOUGHTS As part f RC of ElTahrir’s continuing support for Dar El Hana Orphanage, several programs have been launched this Rotarian year, most important of which is the “Colorful Thoughts” Project. Four RC of ElTahrir members bought and donated wooden chairs and paints for the boys to color them into artistic pieces which exceeded expectations in terms of imaginative designs and bright colors. About 30 boys, aged 14 to 21 have been involved in this design project for a month now. Chairs were made available to Rotary members and after the project was announced on social media, orders have been coming in from other clubs and the public. So far, 40 chairs have been sold and an additional 55 are on order. Each boy received a small amount of money for the work he has done on chairs sold and the remaining amount is used as operating costs for the Dar El Hana Orphanage. The boys were initially given lessons by a professional artist and art teacher to give them the basics needed to produce such exceptional works of art. 14

ELTAHRIR LIFE Teaching teens aged 14 to 21 functional FITNESS fitness as well as life skills such as agility, muscle functions and movement, energy and teamwork is the basis for RC of ElTahrir's project fittingly called \"Life Fitness.\" The project was started in early July 2020 targeting 60 children from Dar ElHana Boys Orphanage. The kids are divided into groups of 15, depending on age, and are given 60 minutes of intensive training on Fridays and Saturdays. The life changing experience is provided by Youssef Gomaa, a professional swimmer with many medals to his name and the founder of the Aquatic Swimming Academy. Youssef fell in love early on with sports and hopes to pass on his passions to new generations. 16

During the Fellowship gathering on July 11, the International Service July 11 marked the first face-to-face Committee of RC of ElTahrir fellowship gathering and the first hosted a Zoom meeting with outing for Tahrir members who have several international clubs on been on lockdown since last March. “New & Perspective Rotary The generous invitation of Nayera Members”. The guest speaker Abdelwahab to meet in the open-air was District Governor Nominee garden of her home in 6th of October, Designate for District 2452 about 15 members gathered to talk, (Lebanon, Cyprus, Jordan, Sudan, catch-up and taste the delicious Bahrain, UAE, Georgia, Armenia koshary prepared by Shireen ElHalaby and Palestine) George Mitri Azar. and Mohamed El Badawi for this RC of ElTahrir President Hala occasion. Allawy started the zoom meet with a word of welcome to all the participants and thanked them for their time and knowledge. LIFE AFTER COVID-19 By Hassan Wahby All of us are thinking about how life would be after Covid-19 and how its going to change and how are we all going to change and whether we would be able to adapt with this new life or not. What’s guaranteed is that life as we used to know will take some time to get back to how it used to be. Some people might take a month to get back to normal, others might take a year, and some will find it extremely difficult to go back to being 100% normal. People who have been quarantined since the outbreak of the pandemic from my perspective will find it extremely difficult to get back to normal, mainly due to them getting used to being isolated form people and getting used to the new life style of social distancing and being afraid to interact with other people. On the other hand, sooner or later life as we used to know will get back to normal as it always did during many outbreaks throughout history such as the Spanish flu in 1918. So that, humanity will always find a way back to being normal. That’s why mankind in general can’t survive with social distancing, we are social creatures by nature and socializing is a vital part of our lifestyle. In conclusion, the most important thing for us is to have hope and faith that everything will get back to normal, and life as we used to know will soon be back. 26

It has also tackled all inquires accompanied with an open discussion with Rotaractors. \"Our Mental Health in Corona Era\" The session was held on Saturday 25 July at 6 pm on Zoom App with the Mental Health Therapist (LMSW), Christine Michael. The session's aim is to raise mental health awareness and learn how to better manage our mental health in a healthy way during the pandemic crisis (Covid-19). Christine Michael received her bachelor degree in Psychology and her Masters degree in Social work and clinical counseling. 27

MES Interact Club El Tahrir The MES Interact Club of El Tahrir is a non-profit organization aimed at helping our community better itself. It is led by promising youth that seek to make real change in the world, and through it all, teaches them how to be compassionate leaders of tomorrow. To us, the club encourages people of different ages and backgrounds to learn how to work selflessly and in a timely fashion to help people in need. It has brought us together and helped us form an unbreakable bond as well as spurring us on to continue volunteering in the future. It nurtures a sense of empathy and altruistic servitude inside us from the very start! The Origin of Our Story: Our club origin is actually a pretty funny story! About seven years ago, a group of passionate students felt the need to give back to the community, and decided to start an unofficial volunteer group as an extracurricular activity. The group showed auspicious potential and immediately grabbed the Rotary’s attention. Before long, Shaff and his team came to our school proposing the idea of initiating an Interact club (following the Tahrir disrict). Without hesitation, everyone was on board and excited for this new chapter in the school’s book. A Successful Last Year: At the very start of every year, we at the interact club, set a very clear list of goals we hope to achieve. For last year, besides our initial adoption of the Elementary school in Beni Sueif, we wanted to dedicate our time and energy to a completely different cause. In an attempt to clear child cancer patients' minds and to lift the psychological load, we thought of renovating their dull play room, installing a gaming console and some fluffy bean bags as well as cupboards filled with educational content. In addition, we are looking forward to installing a vital signs monitor in a patient’s room. To Fundraise: To fulfill our project’s monetary demands, we host fundraising events! A couple of those events are: • The annual MES Run to help fundraise • The annual Garage Sale that helps give back to those in need 29 • The Selling of flowers on mother's day

A Promising Year Ahead: Now, we are getting fired up and ready to start our new year, and not even a pan- demic can stop us! Our goals for this year are mostly centered around the current state of the world, with promises of helping the hospitals taking in COVID-19 patients, educating our school faculty on how to stay safe during these trying times, and providing them with chlorine and protective equipment, all the while continuing on a few of last year’s projects, like the playroom for cancer patients! To connect and share ideas, the Interact Board hosted their first ever virtual meeting! We discussed potential project ideas for our upcoming year, and more creative ways to fundraise. Another meeting was held prior to that as an unofficial handing down ceremony! 30

DISTRICT ‫ ﻣـﻊ رﺋـيﺲ ﻣﺠـﻠﺲ‬2020 ‫ ﻳـﻮﻟـﻴﻮ‬29 ‫إﺟـﺘﻤﺎع ﻳـﻮم‬ ‫ي‬¹‫إدارة اﻟﺸـﺮﻛـﺔ اﻟـﻘﺎﺑـﻀﺔ ﻟـﻠﻤﻴﺎﻩ واﻟـﺼﺮف اﻟـﺼ‬ ‫ة ﺟﻼل وأﻳﻤﻦ إﺑﺮاهﻴﻢ‬U|‫ة ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻮهﺎب وﻧ‬U|‫وﻧ‬ Sabeel is a District project headed by the Chair of the Water and Sanitation Committee at the District 2451 level, Nayera Abdelwahab, who is also a RC of ElTahrir member and the Chair of the Club’s Special Projects Committee and Immediate Past President Indjie Hafez who is also on the District Committee. The project aligns with Egypt’s 2030 Strategic Plan to provide potable water to all corners of the country. Sabeel will apply for a Global Grant as well as fundraise domestically to raise needed funds to build two Riverbank Filtration (RBF) pumps in Sohag and Qaloubiya Governorates at a cost of approximately LE. 600,000 per pump. Riverbank filtration is a process in which river water is induced to flow through riverbed soils to pumping wells located on the banks. During this passage through the riverbed and aquifer, dissolved and suspended contaminants as well as pathogens are removed. Thereby enabling households to receive clean potable water. This project will be covered in collaboration with the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW) which will cover 30% and will provide all installations and connectivity in terms of human resources and on the ground presence. 35
