The Elements of Music



Dynamics Dynamics tell you how loud or soft the music is to be played or sung. In music, the dynamics can change slowly or quickly. 1

Form Form is how a piece of music is organized. The form of the music can be organized into sections that repeat. 2

Harmony Harmony is when two or more musical sounds are sung or played at the same time. The harmony helps to make the melody of a song more interesting. 3

Melody Melody is a series of musical sounds that can be high or low. A melody can be sung or played on a musical instrument. 4

Rhythm Rhythm is a pattern of musical sounds that can be long or short. Rhythm is shown by using symbols that a musician learns to read. 5

Tempo Tempo tells you how fast or slow the music is to be played or sung. The tempo of a whole song could be the same or the tempo can change many times in one song. 6

Tone Tone is how an instrument or a voice sounds. Tone can also describe how a whole piece of music sounds. Each musical instrument and voice has a different tone. 7
