President’s Welcome After last year’s wash-out, we are looking forward to a day of sunshine on the 4th August. I was delighted to take over as President at the AGM last year from Rick Strappini after 20+ years of dedicated attention. No drastic changes are planned. The ethos of the Regatta (participation and a cheap day out) will remain. However, we are introducing a couple of new events this year. One of these is ‘pallet smashing’, which has been organised by our Louis Le Couteur. It harks back to the 1970s and 1980s when the favourite event was the piano smashing. These days, there aren’t many pianos sat around in parishioners’ front parlours, so we will make do with pallets. It will be a team event with entry via the gurning competition, another old favourite… Next year’s Regatta and perfectly suited to our weather worn faces out West! will be on We are desperately missing our Roger Saturday 27 July Reddall who died last Autumn, but in 2019 his place we welcome his son Pete who has seamlessly stepped into the breach. Have a great day! Jon Collenette Free entry to Fort Grey for Rocquaine Regatta day! Opening times 10.00am to 4.00pm If the weather is fine, there will be pirate-themed activities on the lawn inside the Fort from 1.00pm -3.00pm. There is no need to book and no charge. Also – have you seen the Roman ship timbers yet? The store is next to Guernsey Pearl and is open for the same time as Fort Grey. Please contact Jo Dowding at Guernsey Museums & Galleries for more information: tel: 01481 747264, email: [email protected]

Roger Reddall 1955-2017 It was a sad day for the Rocquaine Regatta when we said our goodbyes and paid our last respects to a great friend and Vice President, Roger Reddall, who sadly passed away after struggling with a short illness. Roger was a stalwart of the committee for over 15 years and was the person behind the scenes who made the event happen, particularly after we lost Hugh Lenefestey in 2012. Roger was responsible for scheduling the events, maintaining the equipment and for making sure everything ended up in the right place and at the right time. The Regatta committee will miss his hard work and organisational skills but above all we will miss his camaraderie and his company as a wonderful, giving person, typical of our Western parishes. A modest and unassuming man, it will take us a long time to really appreciate what he did for the Regatta. It gives us some comfort that, much to his embarrassment, he was nominated for the Specsavers Unsung Hero award at the Awards for Achievement. One bright thing to emerge from Roger’s sudden passing is that his son Pete was elected a member of the Committee, about which Roger was immensely proud. He will be sorely missed.

OUR CLIENTS AREN’T THE ONLY PEOPLE WE LOOK OUT FOR. Northern Trust is proud to support the Guernsey Lifeboat Guild.
