World Championship Caption Awards The guidelines determining caption awards have varied over the 37-year history of the Drum Corps International World Championships, but since 2001 they have been determined in a tournament fashion: the scores from all three nights of the World Championship competition are averaged. When a tie occurs, the higher Finals performance score determines the winner. Caption recognitions are awarded for Color Guard, Visual Performance, Overall General Effect, Brass, and Percussion Performance.
