Dear Friends of OLDF, Message What a year in 2021. I cannot believe we are in the same season as last year. Better yet, we were able to work through the Sheri Adekola challenges and turn our services around for the community we serve. Thanks to our supporters, 2021 was another year of growth for Founder us. We employed more youths through the Canada Summer Jobs and other grants than any other year we've been in existence; again, we appreciate the MP's that believe in our work and access of jobs to the youths. In-line with our mission to transform our communities through integrated educational and community-response empowerment initiatives for children, youth, new immigrants, women, and their families. We expanded our community initiatives – combating food insecurity and research advocacy. I am also happy to report that we added three new publications servicing the newcomers' women and improving the lives of Black People. In January 2021, we launched our e-zine and online repository for newcomers (www.thenewcomer.ca). We want the readership to be Educated, Empowered and Elevated by accessing information at their fingertips. Through the portal, we published articles monthly and a bi-annual e-zine for the readership, both within and outside of Canada. In July 2021, we launched WomenQuest, an e-zine for Women and BlackVoice, an e-zine for Black People in Canada. WomenQuest (womenquest.ca) showcases women to Invest, Inspire and Ignite their ideas, while BlackVoice (www.blackvoice.ca) posits to strengthen Black people by having us stay \"Stronger Together.\" We provided ethnic food boxes to low-income families and seniors in the summer as part of our community initiatives to combat food insecurity. We also had research/educational initiatives with women and girls about Gender-Based Violence. As you can imagine, we were busy running our staple program (Youthmind, Home Work Club, Tutoring, Counselling Support, Job Assistance etc.) while adding the new initiatives as noted above. You might now be pondering, what is next on our agenda? We got you!. We are looking into economic empowerment initiatives for the new immigrants, youths and women and adding another publication geared towards business owners. We know one tree does not make a forest, and we count on your continued support. We thank you for standing tall and strong with OLDF, and we cannot wait to share more exciting news with you! In-Service! Sheri Adekola Founder
