About The Author Joachim Angelo P. Sarigan is a student from Casa del Nino Montessori and Science High School, currently in the HUMSS strand. He has been familiarized with sports ever since he was young with the help of his father. Though he was first introduced to Basketball, he was introduced to Soccer (or Football) not long after he was introduced to Basketball. He has experience in playing Soccer from his old school and childhood. From his childhood, he and his family would kick around a soccer ball in the afternoon, passing it to each other. By the time he was in junior high school, he and his friends would play soccer if someone brought a soccer ball. He would easily score some goals, but he is not a good goalkeeper. Soccer was never his forte, but at least he can play well. He was even familiar with some of the famous Football Clubs all over the world. From the Philippine Azkals to the FC Barcelona or the Real Madrid. In terms of this sport, hee's a Barcelona fan, more on Messi. During this pandemic, Joachim can't go out to play with his friends, and has decided to play Soccer and revisit it.

Short History Soccer, better known as \"Football\", is one of the oldest sports in the world. Dating back to 206 B.C., there are accounts of Chinese soldiers playing \"Tsu'chu\", \"kicking the ball\", to supplement their training regiments during the Han Dynasty. While many other ancient cultures played games involving a ball, Tsu'chu was the first to not allow hands. Goals consisted of a net attached to two bamboo poles and elevated 30 feet in the air. This is quite the contrast to modern goals that sit on the ground and extend 8 feet high and 24 feet wide. The particular style of playing a game with a ball, centered around one's feet, spread throughout the world.

Short History During the medieval period in Europe, particularly in England, games were played in towns that pitted rival squads against one another. This was called \"Folkball\". The goal was to place the ball into a designated area, usually the captain's house, to score a point. This would often entail a distance of a few miles between scoring destinations. Games typically resulted in low scoring matches as the process of advancing the ball would be brutal and without regard to one's well being. Without any set rules, the game would cause massive commotion throughout the towns in which it was held, leading to its ban in the 14th Century. In 1863, official rules for football were drawn up to create an organized game in England. These rules formally differentiated rugby football and association football. Hence, modern football was born.

Rules No Hands Please Hand ball violation includes using any part of the body from the fingertips to the shoulder. The player cannot \"handle\" the ball. A ball that is kicked and hits a player's hand or arm is not a hand ball. The referee must judge whether or not a hand ball is accidental contact or the player handled the ball on purpose to gain an advantage. There is also a situation which the goalie cannot use his/her hands, sometimes called the \"back- pass\" rule. Goalkeepers cannot pick up a pass that came directly from one of their teammates. In this case, the goalkeeper must use his/her feet.

Rules Throw-ins A throw-in is taken when the ball crosses a sideline and leaves the field. The two basic soccer rules for a proper throw-in are to have both feet on the ground and to throw the ball with both hands over the field. Corner Kicks & Goal Kicks A corner kick or goal kick is taken when the ball leaves the field across the goal line - the end of the field. If the offensive team kicks it out, play is restarted with a goal kick. If the defensive team kicks it out, play is restarted with a corner kick.

Rules Fouls The common rule of thumb on fouls is \"If it looks like a foul, it probably is.\" A player cannot kick, trip, jump at, charge, strike, push, hold, or spit at an opponent. Bumping, leaning, or going shoulder-to-shoulder while competing for a ball is not a foul until the hands or elbows come up. Direct and Indirect Free Kicks In direct kick, you can score by kicking the ball directly into the goal. In indirect kick, you cannot score. An indirect kick must be touched by another player before it can go into the goal, which is the kicker and a second person.
