Another beautiful and majestic building is the Tengku Intan Zaharah Mosque (Sungai Ibai, Kuala Terengganu). Towering 65 metres high, this tree is around 1300 years old and its diameter measures about 16.75 metres. Go trekking to Malaysia’s highest waterfall, the awe-inspiring Chemerong Waterfalls (located within the Pasir Raja Forest Reserve) fl owing down a 305-metre slope. The sight of cool, crystal clear waters will defi nitely take your breath away. Other most visited waterfalls in Terengganu are such as the 7-tiered Sekayu Waterfalls at Sekayu Recreational Forest (South of Kuala Berang, 45 minutes from Kuala Terengganu), a well-maintained park with river trekking, mini-zoo, a bird park and fruit orchard, Belukar Bukit (20km south of Kuala Berang) and Lata Tembakah Waterfalls (25km south of Jertih, located in Pelagat Forest Reserve). Taman Negara National Park was established in Malaysia in 1938/1939 as T Taman Tamanaman the King George Negara Negara V National Negara Park. It was renamed to Taman Negara after independence, which literally means “national park” in Malay. Taman Negara has a reputation as the world’s oldest tropical rainforest. The park has been developed into a famous ecotourism destination in Malaysia. There are several geological and biological attractions in the park. Gunung Tahan is the highest point of the Malay Peninsula; climbers can use Kuala Tahan or Merapoh as their departure point. Taman Negara is the home of some rare mammals, such as the Indochinese Tiger, Crab-eating macaque, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Great Argus, Red Junglefowl, Malayan Gaur (seladang) and Asian Elephant. Among the birdlife, the rare Malayan Peacock-pheasant is still found here in some numbers. Tahan River has been preserved to protect the Malaysian mahseer (ikan kelah in Malay), a type of game fi sh. Others attractions found near Kuala Tahan (Park headquarters for Pahang) include a canopy walkway, Gua Telinga (cave system), Lata Berkoh (rapid). Visitors can enjoy the tropical rain forest, birdwatching or jungle trekking (e.g. Tenor Rentis) and the river views along the Tahan River. You may also want to take a private carrier; Berjaya Air operates direct fl ights from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang to Redang Island. By Road: Terengganu is accessible via a 4 to a 5-hour drive along the East Coast Expressway. By Train: There are no train services available to Kuala Terengganu. However, passengers travelling to the northen part of Terengganu like Perhentian Island, Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) train services are available from economy class to comfortable sleeping berths from Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bharu/Singapore via Tanah Merah, Wakaf Bharu and Tumpat in the Kelantan region. Passengers can stop at Tanah Merah station, the nearest point to Kuala Besut jetty, and take a 45-minute ride by taxi and a 90-minute ride to Merang Jetty.
