Introduction Introduction - Introduction To Grater Klang Valley to GREATER Klang Valley What is Klang Valley, exactly? Hearing the name ‘Klang Valley’ is a common- place in Malaysia, particularly in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. In fact, the term “Klang Valley” is so widely used by Malaysians that you’ll hear it on the radio or on television, and you’ll even come across it in newspapers, magazines, and casual chats as well. However, one very key point about the Klang Valley is frequently raised: What exactly is the Klang Valley? The valley is known after the Klang River, which flows through it and begins at Klang Gates Quartz Ridge near Gombak and falls into the Malacca Strait in Port Klang. The river is directly linked to the area’s early growth as a cluster of tin mining settlements in the late 19th century. There are five major areas that is under the Klang Valley such as Kuala Lumpur, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Klang and Petaling. The region’s development was mostly east- west (between Gombak and Port Klang), although the metropolitan areas surrounding Kuala Lumpur have since expanded north and south towards the borders with Perak and Negeri Sembilan, respectively. What forms Greater Klang Valley? Though no official borders have been drawn, it is possible to consider it to in- clude the federal territory and numerous additional districts in its region.
