Introduction Brickfields Sri Kandaswamy Kovil is a Hindu temple located along Jalan Scott, Brickfields in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The temple is over a century old now. The temple is one of the most prominent Sri Lankan Tamil or Ceylonese Tamil temples in Malaysia. It is huge and showcases rich Sri Lankan Tamil architecture and has become a popular tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur. The temple architecture is said to be inspired by the Nallur Kandaswamy temple in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. The Kalamandapam hall which holds wedding ceremonies is owned by this temple and was officiated by the 2nd Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak. The Sri Kandaswamy Kovil is managed by the Malaysian Ceylon Saivites Association. The temple provides religious services such as house warming ceremonies and children’s 31st day ceremony. Sri Kandaswamy Kovil Address : 3, Lorong Scott, Brickfields, 50470 Kuala Lumpur Tel: 03-2274 2987 Arulmigu Sree Veera Hanuman Temple This quaint temple has acquired a staunch following in recent years, due to the magical presence of Lord Hanuman. This temple originated from a shrine at the KL Sentral monorail station. The shrine had shifted to Scott Road in the last 10 years, due to construction of the rail station. As Lord Hanuman is energetic, it is only befitting that its current chairman is active and youthful. Mr. Suresh, who is the current chairman of the temple, and who has been instilling his creativity into the temple. The new ‘gopuram’ of the temple will be characterised by Lord Hanuman’s tail, making the temple distinctive in design. Wei Ling Gallery This pre-war shophouse-turned-gallery is not your bog-standard studio. The building once housed architect Jimmy Lim’s office but was gutted by a blaze in 2004. Very cleverly, he rebuilt the space into an art gallery for his daughter, Wei-Ling, who used to run Townhouse Gallery in Bangsar. Now, what you’ll find behind the rusty iron- cast railing entrance is an antique warehouse on the ground floor and a lofty three-floor gallery upstairs. And as if to expound visitors its history, the gallery has wooden flooring that reveals fragments of charred beams preserved in Perspex glasses amidst the new laid rafters.16
