In Malaysia, there’s a lot of cultural handcraft, decorative items that suits the best souvenir to bring back to home, and share with friends and family. Batik is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Besides Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei, Batik is commonly worn in Malaysia, especially special occasion; Batik is often fabric to shirt, skirt and many other clothes form. The most popular motifs are leaves and flowers. Malaysian batik never depicts humans or animals because Islamic norms forbid anthropomorphic and animal images as decoration. However, the butterfly theme is a common exception. The Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals. The method of Malaysian batik making is also quite different from those of Indonesian Javanese batik, the pattern is larger and simpler, it seldom or never uses canting to create intricate patterns and rely heavily on brush painting method to apply colors on fabrics. The colors also tend to be lighter and more vibrant than deep colored Javanese batik. So whenever you come to Malaysia, I bet Batik is a must bring back souvenir as its’ unique pattern and culture. Besides Batik, Pewter products is the ideal items, for its fine quality and designs, you will spoilt with choices as it have over thousands products offered, from children’s gifts for birthdays and christenings to contemporary room décor for a new home, there will always be something that caters to your needs. Taste the best local food around 1 The presence of a large community of expatriates, as well as the local multiracial community spells a vibrant and international dining scene in Kuala Lumpur. Regardless of your food choices, Kuala Lumpur’s rich cuisine heritage will have you drooling for more. The top contenders include Ampang Yong Tau Foo, Nasi Lemak Kampung Baru and even Little India’s Banana Leaf Rice will leave you just coming back for more. Take a hike! Or go fly kite! 2 A classic example of how to holiday like a local, take a hike along the trails found in the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, which is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where the majestic trees await to greet you. Or alternatively, you may go to FRIM’s Canopy Walk and experience the cool breeze as you watch wildlife at the canopy level and catch a sight of the city from the look- out point of the Canopy Walk. Meanwhile, those who come from windy states with a tradition of kite-flying will understand the liberation in flying kites at Kepong Metropolitan Park. Go gaga over IT 3 Many of the best IT and electronics brands enter Malaysia through Kuala Lumpur and it is the great diversity of appliances and products, coupled with great service which makes the shopping experience here so amazing. It is an open secret that digital malls here are so diversified that most people don’t even have to wait till PC Fairs for great buys of IT wares. Make a daytrip to the Prime Minister’s Office 4 Putrajaya is within easy reach for those who are already staying in the south of Kuala Lumpur but if you are towards the north, fret not, we have the KL-Putrajaya highway linking us to the best times to be had in Putrajaya. Whether you are cycling, walking or just photographing the bridges of Putrajaya county, let the Cruise Tasik Putrajaya people help with taking in the sights. Watch a live performance/show/concert 5 Some live bands play at clubs for free, while performances like theatre, symphony orchestras and concerts held by your favourite artistes are within reach in Kuala Lumpur. Depending on the lengths you would go through, camping at the entrance 3 days before the show could be just one of the more radical things that could happen. Check out either musicals like the award-winning CATS, Puteri Gunung Ledang or musical stylings like STOMP at the Istana Budaya, or if you prefer orchestras then the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra plays regularly at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS.
