This service is a direct support to the North and West Vancouver School Districts in their work to promote the inclusion of students with disabilities. Volunteer Facilitators are recruited and screened by the Friendship Circles Program Coordinator as required by the North Shore Connexions Society. This includes criminal record checks, TB testing, and personal references. The Facilitator is then matched to a child and a presentation is given to the class. Children who wish to join the Circle meet with the Facilitator once a week over the lunch hour. They will be interacting in a variety of games and activities that support the social development of all the children. Participation in the Circle is voluntary and the children are encouraged to take turns so everyone can have a chance at being involved throughout the year. Because of this outlook, commitment to carry through with playtimes they have signed up for is expected. Any school and child on the North Shore can contact us to set up a circle. For more information, please contact the Friendship Circles Coordinator at: Telephone: 604-904-0842 Email: [email protected] 3
