Letter from the Editor A Perfect BlendPhoto by: Camela Brennand Growing up, you always knew which family we belong to…especially around the holidays. That’s because many times we wore “matching” outfits. My mom loved to sew and just like the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31, Well, maybe not scarlet. More like whatever fabric was on sale at the time! She was a bargain shopper after all. She even lent her talents and sewed many costumes for some charitable musical productions, in which she also performed. Her Singer sewingmachine got a workout. So in honor of National Sewing Month, which falls in the month of September, we’vehighlighted . We’ve also stitched together a beautiful breakfast titled, , which is tailor made just for you, so please join us.Every woman should have a little black dress in her closet. It’s versatile and can be dressed up or downdepending on the occasion. The same holds true with white (or cream) dishes. They can take some of the stressout of entertaining, therefore, every hostess should have a set in her cupboards. Just between us, I’ll let you inon a little secret…check out the . Do not try to1/2 cup milk1/2 cup heavy cream (plus a little extra to blend hot soup in yourdrizzle) blender or the lid will blow1 tablespoon maple syrupSalt and pepper to taste off along with the soup!Roasted pumpkin seeds for garnish Roasted Pumpkin SeedsCombine first 5 ingredients in a large saucepanand bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer until Preheat oven to 300° F. Pumpkin Cheesecake To make crust: Invert the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan (toMakes 12 servings create a flat bottom, which will make it easier to remove cake from pan). Lock springform ontoIngredients bottom. Butter inside of pan. In a bowl, stir together crumbs, pecans, sugars, and butter in aCrust bowl until combined. Press crumb mixture evenly onto bottom and 1/2 inch up side of pan. Chill3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs crust for 1 hour.1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped1/4 cup packed light brown sugar To make filling:1/4 cup granulated sugar Preheat oven to 350° F. In large bowl whisk1/2 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled together pumpkin, eggs, brown sugar, cream, and vanilla until combined. Set aside. In anotherFilling large bowl stir together granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Add1 1/2 cups canned solid-pack pumpkin softened cream cheese and beat with electric3 large eggs mixer at high speed until smooth, about 31/2 cup packed light brown sugar minutes. Reduce speed to medium, then add2 tablespoons heavy cream pumpkin mixture and beat until smooth. Pour2 teaspoons vanilla filling into crust, smoothing top, then put1/2 cup granulated sugar springform pan in shallow baking pan (in case1 tablespoon cornstarch springform leaks). Bake until center is just set, 502 teaspoons cinnamon to 60 minutes. Transfer to rack and cool 51/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg minutes. Which is reminiscent of theversatility of the little black dress, which can be dressed up ordown to suit the occasion.Where are you located? Do you have an actual store or areyou just online?We are located in the suburbs of New York City, and we areonly online right now. Our dream is to open a retail store, too.What motivated you to start the Little White Dish?It was always a dream of mine to start my own business, andthe idea of a website was appealing to me, since it wouldgive me a lot of flexibility. Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Coffee 1/2 cup brown sugar, packedCake 1 tablespoon cinnamon 5 tablespoons butter, softenedMakes 12 servings Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour 10 inchIngredients Bundt pan. In large bowl, cream together butter1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs1 1/2 cups white sugar one at a time, until well blended. Stir in vanilla3 eggs and sour cream. In separate bowl, combine flour,2 teaspoons vanilla extract baking soda, and baking powder; stir into the1 cup sour cream batter a cup at a time until blended. Spoon half of2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour batter into Bundt pan and spread evenly. In small1 tsp baking soda bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon,1 tsp baking powder butter and vanilla.
