Class Mascot 6

Class Mascot Taking the class mascot home is a big deal for the students. They are so excited to bring a piece of the class home to their families and share about their day. It's also meaningful for my students to share a bit of home with something from the class. Blending home and school into the same world for students is so powerful. 7

English–Blending of sounds Students need to be familiar with as many blends as possible; this helps them de- code with more efficiency and makes reading a lot faster. When students can par- ticipate in repeated practice of this skill, the blending of consonant sounds be- comes more automatic. This is an important introductory lesson that really helps explicitly teach students how to work initial blends! They were made to apply their learning to games like word search . 8

Prophet’s Birthday Prophet Muhammad (570 - 632) is the central figure of Islam. Muslims around the world believe he is the last of the prophets and the last Messenger of God to mankind. The prophet of Islam was born in the city of Mecca, now located in modern-day Saudi Arabia. Muslims believe that God has always sent prophets to humanity, preaching monotheism, mercy, compassion, peace, and justice. Students of kindergarten watched the stories of the Prophet on his birthday and listened to his teachings. 14

Art of paper folding One of the amazing things about origami is that you can take a flat piece of paper and turn it into a three dimensional object.
