ABOUT ANDREAPhotography has been part of my life ever since I canremember. My grandmother loved photography, as did mymother, so posing for photographs and looking through theviewfinder of those old 35mm film cameras was a regular partof family occasions. When we went on family road trips I hadone of those 110mm film point and shoot cameras that couldfit in your back pocket. (Do they even make those anymore?)I remember snapping away at anything that looked interestingand eagerly opening up the finished prints once they weredeveloped. There was something magical about not beingable to see what the photo looked like until days later. Mylove for film is still alive-and-well in this age of digital. I evenfind myself in a darkroom on occasional developing andprocessing my own black and white film canisters. It's a veryrelaxing and meditative process I've come to realize. Andthe result of hand-developed film is so incredibly rewarding. In my undergraduate years in college, I had a camera thatI took with me almost everywhere I went. It seamed likeevery day there was something worth capturing. I've usedseveral cameras since that first one, but I've still kept itbecause of all the memories it contains. It may not takepictures like it once did, and heaven knows how muchbetter cameras are now, but I just can't part with thatlittle memory saver. I love to look back at some of myfirst images and see how raw and unpolished they were.Compared to my current work I can easily see where I'vegrown and matured. Every now and then I'll look at those firstimages and marvel and just how far I've come as an artist.I can't wait to see what the future holds with photography, but I'm even more excited to see what images I am ableto capture in the coming years. There's nothing quitelike capturing a moment in time, never to be forgotten, that could have just passed by in the blink of an eye. 11

BEHIND THE LENS  Life is a masterpiece. The world we see around us is a beautifulcreation of color and form that goes beyond sight and embracesall the senses. Much of art utilizes value, motion, shape, perspectiveand emotion, creating a new work that sends out its own feelingand meaning. Making a work that speaks its own story andcaptures or evokes a particular mood is one of the main goalsof my art. Whether it’s merely depicting a previously existingidea, such as journalistic photography, or in creating a uniquescene, like in my fine art photography; each image is a momentcaptured in time to be forever speaking into the viewer ’s life.12
