The Lyceum of the Philippines University- Batangas is one of the institutions that commemorates what Christ has done for us. It displays how Lyceans were taught to be grateful for God’s love, that even the pandemic is never a hindrance to reflect on themselves. A virtual retreat held in LPU-Batangas for high school students was led by Ms. Jherae Fabillan, a Victory group leader. She discussed what our Savior Lord Jesus Christ had done on Mount Calvary, the importance of reflecting on His sufferings, and introduced words of encouragement which became a wake-up call to many Lyceans. The celebration of Holy Week allows us to reflect and appreciate more of God’s unconditional love. According to John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Christ’s suffering should not only be remembered during Holy Week as recalling the sacrifices that God made should be commemorated too. He is the Prince of Peace, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. He had a perfect life, and as He lived, He fulfilled the will of the Father: to save us all. He was crucified on the cross and shed His precious blood to cleanse all our sins. He died, but then rose up from the grave after three days–a perfect and beautiful example of how we could enjoy His gift if we trust Him with all of our hearts and accept Him as our own Savior.

As an English teacher, my message to the entire community will be not about tenses, but alike in the sense that it will speak the THE PAST, THE PRESENT AND FUTURE. THE PAST For two consecutive academic years, we have rolled online classes that ensued from the constraints brought by the pandemic. The situation has brought us tremendous changes and urged all of us to embrace the shifts. We have not seen each other in-person, doing the usual classroom activities, assemblies at the gym, group meetings, peer dynamics, minglings and socializations. Everything has been transformed virtually. We had a hard time accepting it at the beginning, feeling that it would all be impossible that way. But the resilience, grit and growth mindset among all of us, from the top management, to the teachers and learners including the parents’ involvement and understanding have brought us where we are now. A high school community better shaped by the circumstances that never hindered us to go on, carry on until we can finally say today that we have survived those difficulties. THE PRESENT We can say that we have survived those difficulties, because as the situations get to be better and favorable, the Department of Education in its recent pronouncement has magnified the call to mobilize the f2f classes next academic year. With the badge and authority given to us by the Office of the City Mayor and DEPED Batangas City to implement limited

OPEN LETTER The Newsletter 18 FLAMBEAU-SIKLAB Volume IV No. I f2f classes that we that we are currently implementing this last quarter of AY 2021-2022, we know that we got the right tempo. The application process to be approved was not that easy because of the requirements that have to be submitted and complied by the school. Not many schools in the city have tried doing it this year because of the pains of the preparations, but still, the HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT NEVER HESITATED. In our mind, this is for our students. The Senior High students have been given that privilege to pilot such mode and we earned favorable response and feedback. From their words during the first day f2f classes was rolled, many of them affirmed that it was such a wonderful feeling to be back in the Riverside campus, meet some of their classmates in-flesh, interact again with their teachers, get an exhale from the virtual box – Zoom and MS Teams, enjoy the cozy-conditioned classrooms, see the breathtaking view that surrounds the library, be transported to the higher floor by the escalator. More than just academic purpose, that mere returning to the campus is priceless. Seeing the smiles upon the students’ faces is more than satisfying. THE FUTURE “Seeing the smile upon the students’ faces is more than satisfying”. For us in the HS department, that smile represents hope, joy and bright perspectives. That is why, in the perspectives of the school, the management and the teachers, we have to complement that smile with concretized plans. In a nutshell, there are improvements that will take place next AY 2022-2023. Since the government supports the comeback of students in the physical space next year, for a more exciting school year, expect these: We will conduct classes in hybrid. Hybrid learning is an educational model in which students spend at least half of their time learning online and the rest of their time learning in physical classrooms, thus, face to face. We have also allotted rooms for possible HYFLEX classes. In the Hyflex mode - students can attend classes online, thus, can synchronously join the students attending the face to face classes. Asynchronous classes will also take place using our learning management system. Consultation hours, will be utilized not only for academic purposes, but also for holistic well-being, because in LPU, we believe that “Nobody should be left behind”. Another happy news is that, for the next AY, our schedule will be made more student-friendly. We will follow a long-weekend schedule. It means students will be free during Fridays, no assignments to be given and they will do things self-paced. Also, this day will be devoted for activities to give way for our promised vibrant student life. Here in LPU, we promise to give our students only the best learning experience they truly deserve, thus, they LEARN DIFFERENT and LIVE DIFFERENT. These being said, the THE PAST, THE PRESENT, THE FUTURE, all these were made possible and will be made possible through the joined efforts of everyone in LPU, most importantly our main frontliners, the TEACHERS. Many times we have been swept by different currents, by strong winds, by huge tides and they came to us unexpectedly in many forms. We were not fully trained for those emergencies, but because of God’s steady guidance, we kept ourselves afloat. Kudos to the young men and women of High School. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
