We dream to have a positive environment in our club We dream to welcome our guest with utmost love and respect. We not just dreamt …We have worked hard to achieve it too. The main reason why our improvements are noticeable is because of the toastmasters’ simple policy, “DO IT YOURSELF”. I am immensely happy about how we all have worked as a team with just one goal and no expectations except for being impeccable in our jobs. As Toastmasters founder Ralph C. Smedley once said, ”Here we are, with tremendous opportunity before us. I challenge you to get to work to bring us up to a higher level of service. Let us share with others the benefits we have gained for ourselves.” Let us share the benefits we have gained for ourselves. “MAKE YOURSELF EXTRAORDINARY AND ENABLE OTHERS TO BECOME EXTRAORDINARY AS WELL”

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Stars On Earth DTM Shreeraman K. Vadhyar Congratulations Galaxy Toastmasters, on coming up with your first newsletter! Division G Director District 105 Congratulations are also due to you for your efforts to spread your wings and reach out to more people. The renaming of your club - the shift to a broader base – is a welcome step in that direction. Any community club will boast of variety and diversity, but where I have seen Galaxy stand out is the variety in meetings and themes – be it Bollywood, 50:50, Bring out the Child in you, Reverse Meeting, or preparing for death! Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, founder of Toastmasters International, said: “We learn best in moments of enjoyment.” Galaxy Toastmasters, with its high entertainment quotient, is living up to this axiom. For a club that is just a year old, what is commendable is the progress being made in membership and DCP points. I am impressed with the leadership team and the club’s drive. As the club gears up for continued growth, I wish the members of Galaxy, the stars on earth, the very best! Warm wishes!

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Galaxy 50:50 Golden Session Dear Members of the Galaxy, DTM Deepa Surendran Congratulations on your 50th session! The way you are Public Relations Manager celebrating it shows that all the members are true leaders, not District 105 only during times of normalcy, but during rough periods as well. If we look at our toastmasters fraternity, we can see two types of leaders, one set was the set of shining leaders who were shining stars before the Covid 19 attack – and the second set are the ones who were silent in those days, but took on the responsibilities of many areas, inspired members to learn technology and lead the change. Are you one among them? Martin Luther King Jr., in his book “Inspiration and Wisdom for Challenging Times” mentioned that “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus, but a moulder of consensus. “ I cannot count the number of times I have heard the same complaint of \"no one's attending!!\" \"There's no point in holding a meeting no one goes to.\" Just read that sentence by MLK Jr, and then reconsider. A leader is not the one who waits for consensus but directs the members to a good decision which will help them. We know that these days many are affected by job losses and this is the time to upskill ourselves and for this exact reason we know that toastmaster is the more appropriate forum, which offers abundant opportunity in an affordable manner. Here our members can learn communication skills, conducting webinars, conducting interviews, persuasive skills which is a mandatory skill for sales and marketing, podcasting, blogging, presentations, and so much more. If our members go for any external training, getting trained with one such skill itself would cost a lot of money and it will likely be a one-time event, with no chances for revision or time to put it into practice effectively. Toastmasters International provides a self-paced education system which can be mastered with the help of eminent and effective mentors who were supported by other seniors. It’s a cyclical process no one can stop receiving the benefits from. I hope all leaders in Galaxy will share your knowledge with others, mould them to become active members, encourage them to continue as members, and become shining stars in life. Cheers!

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 What’s GALAXY All About? TM Preeti Kapil G Genuine (Real & Authentic) VP Public Relations A Amazing (Full of Wonder & Excitement) Galaxy L Liberal (Free & Generous) A Awesome (Remarkable & Inspiring) X Xceptional (Unusual & Unique) Y Youthful (Fresh Spirit) I’m sure during this pandemic everyone would have got frustrated and gloomy. Luckily I had GALAXY to keep my spirits high. It was July 2020 when my friend TM Nidheesh invited me to attend the TM session. He briefed me saying the club is for developing Public Speaking Skills. I was not that keen. But because it was my friend, me and my husband decided to attend as a guest. And what happened is history. We felt so nice and comfortable! We felt as if we are friends from long. What a lively session it was! Me and my husband TM Kapil immediately decided to join GALAXY. We hardly knew about Toastmasters but were deeply touched by the warmth that this group offered. The 1st person I got impressed with is TM Abhishek Kokate. What confidence and energy he holds! Let me tell you more about our exuberant members. TM Nysam Haneef A true leader who shows the path and always ready to take up challenges. TM Ambujakshan True inspiration and well voices his opinion. DTM Nanthakumar A true coach & a perfect guide. DTM Benoy Raj Very helpful & co-operative. TM Abhishek Kokate Ever motivating person. TM Nidheesh Friendly and Socialising. TM Ahamed Parambath Experienced, friendly & Young @ Heart. TM Kapil Venkatachalam Helpful, Good listener & has a good vocabulary. TM Vinod Mathews Honest & Friendly. TM Gokul Calm & Aspiring.

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Great Things Never Come From TM Kapil Comfort Zones! Venkatachalam Normally a human being should be able to visualize design of Treasurer his dream home, balance accounts, solve equations, analyze Galaxy a new problem, program a computer and maybe cook a tasty meal. Not everyone can be a specialist. I do not really mean to offend the specialists but I am purely attempting to defend my situation. If at any point of time if I was left alone - I wanted to be a cricketer, a computer programmer, A cricket commentator, A proficient and confident speaker etc. etc. I think there are few people in this world who know what they want to become which they pursue and achieve. However, most of us are like me, who try hard at the opportunity that are given to them and if they succeed they try to specialize in that and become a bigger success at that profession or that particular subject. I joined Galaxy Toastmasters in August 2020. The friendly members and the jovial, vibrant atmosphere (which is a unique feature of our club) was the reason that I joined Galaxy Toastmasters. Being an active member and officer in Toastmasters, has given me this chance to learn so many things and be better and resourceful person when it comes to public speaking. For that reason, I would list some reasons why I would encourage anyone else to join toastmasters. Become a better listener before being a good speaker. In order to know how to speak, you would need to listen to many speeches to judge what suits you the best and come up with your own style. Hone and enhance your leadership skills by serving in the different roles. Lastly Toastmasters helps to improve the quality of your life in a way that makes you manage your professional life efficiently since you will already be used to Toastmasters sessions. In addition, practicing impromptu speeches during table topic will really help you to think in your feet and improve the way how to meritoriously convey your ideas. To summarize honing public speaking and leadership require commitment, dedication and perseverance. Journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step...

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Desensitizing Public Speaking TM Abhishek Kokate When I came to Toastmasters in September 2019, I was not VP Education aware of what’s next for me? I clearly remember, my first Galaxy meeting as a guest. I was scared, my palms were sweaty & mouth ran dry when I spoke at Table Topics. My entire body was shivering when I was speaking to the audience. I was oscillating on the stage with my fists clasped. Viola!! I won as TT Speaker & then began my journey in Public Speaking at Toastmasters. Every time, I took the stage, whether it is as a role player or speaker or as an evaluator, I have improved. I did not realize that, within two meetings, my confidence shot up beyond measures. How did I measure that? Well, I hosted Oman National Day function at our resort in 2017. I just had few lines to say, even for those lines, I had cue cards & I was not able to strike an eye contact. Come 2019 October, I was hosting an event for our resort & my confidence was palpable. Everyone around me could feel that I was talking to them. I could strike eye contact easily. I happened to invite our Director of Sales & Marketing for our club meetings. I had a speech that day, Director was so impressed by my quality that she got me transferred from Purchasing to Sales & Marketing. I never imagined that to happen, credit goes to the toastmasters club. As part of Level 3 project, I started to post motivational videos on Facebook, Instagram & YouTube. The journey made me learn about the new social media platforms. I learnt on how to edit videos, how to post them, so on & so forth. I even purchased a podcasting mic & started my own podcast. All the credit goes to toastmasters club which makes Public Speaking desensitized. Every week, we come & do the same thing again & again. We get into a habit loop of cue, action & reward. Over period of time, we are no more fearful of speaking & there starts the journey of public speaking. Today, public speaking is the most sought-after skill in professional world. Even at personal level, if we do not know how to present our ideas, apprehensions, likes or dislikes, opinions, we will get bullied by someone’s opinion or exploited by others. Most humans exploit the other human beings or animals, when they realize that the other cannot speak and articulate, exploitation starts. Just look around or reflect on life, I am sure you would agree with me.

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Toastmasters have made me realize that speaking is the most important skill. By de-sensitizing it, I can speak to anyone, anywhere, anytime. I have observed the same change in others at our club. If you feel that you are a weak communicator or you are good but not that good then here is your chance!!! Join us every Saturday 5.00 pm – 7 pm Muscat time, let us help you to de- sensitize your public speaking. TM Abhishek Kokate VP Education Galaxy

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Evaluate To Motivate DTM Nanthakumar In every Toastmaster meeting, the prepared projects speech is Club Coach evaluated by an experienced Toastmaster. It is recommended Galaxy that a Toastmaster member who has completed the Level 2 of any path is eligible to be an effective evaluator. In my opinion, the member who has the analytical skills, listening skills, effectively list the positives of the speech, give at least two recommendations to the speaker for future improvement, and the summation within the allotted time, then the member is fit enough as an evaluator. When a child is not concentrating on studies or getting lower marks in a monthly examination, how parents motivate the child. It is important. Can the parents be harsh? Think for a moment. Similarly, the evaluator motivates the speaker by giving the positives of the speaker and demonstrates the recommendations which would enhance his/her speech at the next attempt. When giving evaluations, remember the following key points. Approach each speech with honesty while remaining positive. Pay attention to the speaker’s goals for self-improvement. Evaluate what the speaker does and not who the speaker is. Report what you see, hear and feel as a member speaks. Delivering an evaluation is an excellent way to practice and demonstrate your speaking skills. In the meantime, if you are an evaluator for a contest at a Club or an Area or a Division or a District, you need to follow the criteria specified in the Evaluation Contest Judges Ballot. Develop you skills and become an effective Evaluator to motivate your speaker.

GALAXY TOASTMASTERS CLUB Club No. 7468753, Area 17, Division G, District 105 Chase Passion As Your Dreams TM Gokul Nair Do you know what the meaning of passion is? Member Galaxy Do you think passion can get you to what you dream? Yes some people think they can get but some don’t. Well in my opinion passion can be anything which anyone can take it. For me passion is photography and I still like to do without expecting anything from others in the form of rewards or cash. Passion to do anything is a person’s wish to take up any skill or job which they likes to do in their free time. For me passion towards photography is like my free time job where I use my creativity and take my photographs. Whether it is an idol, landscape or any object you need to think photography everywhere that’s how you take up the skill and do the work. In my school days I used to take my programs which were held in the school without expecting anything because it was passion. Many people in the world are a photographer but they don’t take it like their passion and do, but rather take it as their profession and earn some money out of it. But some take it as their hobbies can continue it. The same way I also take photography as my passion/ hobby expecting nothing as a reward but expecting that someday the world will recognize me as a famous photographer. So try chasing your passion as your dream like me and become successful someday.
