Maha Mrityunjaya Stotram(Maha Mrityunjaya Stotra is also attributed to Markandeya. A Sage prayed Lord Shiva for ason. Lord Shiva appeared before the sage and put this question: Do you want an intelligentson who will live only for 16 years or foolish son, who will live for one hundred years? The sagepreferred the former option. A son was born to him and was named as Markandeya.Markandeya became a very great devotee of Lord Shiva. The sixteenth year was fastapproaching. On his sixteenth birthday, the boy entered the sanctum sanctorum of theLord Shiva and embraced him. Yama, the Lord of death came to take away his soul. LordShiva destroyed Yama with his Trident weapon. His life was extended and he lives in thisworld without death (Chiranjeev). Then the boy Markandeya offered the MahaMrityunjaya Stotram.
