Introduction III Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what is printed on the page. Through hearing stories, children are exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read. It is important for them to understand how stories work too. Reading is fundamental to functioning in today's society. There are many adults who cannot read well enough to understand the instructions on a medicine bottle. That is a scary thought - especially for their children. Filling out applications becomes impossible without help. Reading road or warning signs is difficult. Even following a map becomes a chore. Day-to-day activities that many people take for granted become a source of frustration, anger and fear. The main problem is the perception that kids create of a book after going through their exhaustive academic courses. So, they fear from the starting to read new books and novels. Those who overcome their fear and start reading interesting and more indulging books discover the true adventurous side of reading and start loving the habit of reading. Consequently, they start getting addicted to it.

IV Executive Summary Reading is a basic skill which is very essential in today's society. A person who can’t read in today’s world certainly needs a lot of help from others in his day to day life because almost everything we do has some part of reading involved in it, be it reading sign boards, a medical- prescription, newspaper and articles related to different things. This report revolves around this fact that why is reading actually necessary and would conclude by shaping a view in the mind of the readers that why should one inculcate a regular habit of reading in his schedule. The report starts with some drawbacks and problems people might face who can’t read which gradually moves onto the benefits of reading. Furthermore, we pay attention to the benefits of reading and how does it affect our lives positively and brings out a new trait in one’s personality. We have also portrayed how some eminent personalities who were super-genius faced problems in developing these fundamental skills but they still didn’t lose hope, they tried and they did fantastically well thereby overcoming these issues in their lives. Consequently, we sum up this report by mentioning the key points regarding incorporating this habit in our very own busy schedules and how will it change our stressful lives point of view over every problem in life.

5 Benefits of Reading 1. Necessity of reading Reading is fundamental to functioning in today's society. 2. Beneficial in finding a good job Reading is a vital skill in finding a good job. Many well-paying jobs require reading as a part of job performance. There are reports and memos which must be read and responded to. Poor reading skills increases the amount of time it takes to absorb and react in the workplace. A person is limited in what they can accomplish without good reading and comprehension skills.

6 3. Develops the mind Reading is important because it develops the mind. The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Teaching young children to read helps them develop their language skills. It also helps them learn to listen. Everybody wants to talk, but few can really listen. Lack of listening skills can result in major misunderstandings which can lead to job loss, marriage breakup, and other disasters - small and great. Reading helps children and adults] focus on what someone else is communicating. 4. Discovering new things Why is reading important? It is how we discover new things. Books, magazines and even the Internet are great learning tools which require the ability to read and understand what is read. A person who knows how to read can educate themselves in any area of life they are interested in. We live in an age where we overflow with information, but reading is the main way to take advantage of it. .

7 5. Develops Imagination Reading develops the imagination. TV and computer games have their place, but they are more like amusement. Amusement comes from two words \"a\" [non] and \"muse\" [think]. Amusement is non-thinking activities. With reading, a person can go anywhere in the world or even out of it! They can be a king, or an adventurer, or a princess, or... The possibilities are endless. Non-readers never experience these joys to the same extent. 6. Develops the Creative side of People In line with the above, reading develops the creative side of people. When reading to children, stop every once in a-while and ask them what they think is going to happen next. Get them thinking about the story. When it is finished, ask if they could think of a better ending or anything that would have improved it. If they really liked the story, encourage them to illustrate it with their own drawings or to make up a different story with the same characters. Get the creative juices flowing!

8 7. Fundamental in developing a good self-image Reading is fundamental in developing a good self- image. Non-readers or poor readers often have low opinions of themselves and their abilities. Many a times, they feel as if the world is against them. They feel isolated [everybody else can read - which isn't true] and behaviour problems can surface. They can perform poorly in other subjects because they cannot read and understand the material. Often the reader tends to \"give up.\" 8. Enhancing one’s own vocabulary Why is reading important? Let's keep going... Good reading skills, especially in a phonics reading program, improve spelling. As students learn to sound out letters and words, spelling becomes easier. Also, reading helps to expand the vocabulary. Reading new words puts them in their mind for later use. Seeing how words are used in different contexts can give a better understanding of the word usage and its definitions rather than just the cold facts of a dictionary.

9 Ways of encouraging reading among people 1. Make reading a daily habit. From the day your newborn comes home, you can start raising a reader. Babies respond to the soothing rhythm of a voice reading aloud, as well as to being cuddled on a warm lap. If you make reading part of your daily routine, your child is likely to grow up looking forward to it. 2. Read in front of your child Whether you love books, magazines, or graphic novels, let your child see you reading. Kids learn from what they observe. If you’re excited about reading, your child is likely to catch your enthusiasm. 3. Create a reading space Your reading space doesn’t have to be big or have a lot of bookshelves. It can be a corner of the couch or a chair in the room where your child sleeps. Picking a comfy spot that has enough light and room to keep a book or two can help your child connect reading with coziness and comfort.

10 4. Take trips to the library The library is a great place to explore new books and authors for free. Many libraries also have story hours or other literacy programs for kids. Trips to the library give your child a chance to develop good reading habits and to see other kids doing the same thing. 5. Let your child pick what to read That trip to the library can be extra special when you give your child time to look around and explore. Kids are more likely to want to read something they pick out themselves. If you’re concerned about finding the right reading level or topic, give your child a section of books to choose from. 6. Find reading moments in everyday life Reading isn’t just about sitting down with a good book. It’s a part of daily life, too. As you go through your day, help your child keep an eye out for “reading moments.” They may be as simple as reading road signs, grocery lists, or recipes.

7. Re-read favourite books 11 You might get tired of reading the same story over and over again, but your child may love it. Kids like to spot things they missed the first time in the story or in the pictures. Re-reading also gives them a chance to connect the words they see on the page with the words they hear. Eventually, your child might even start reading the book to you. 8. Learn more about how kids read You may not be a teacher, but you are your child’s first teacher. Knowing a little bit about what reading skills to expect at different ages can help you support your child’s reading. 9. Allow students to read the whole book before discussing it Give students the opportunity to read the book before you pull it apart and talk about literary devices. Sometimes when all you do is talk about the plot, setting, or genre, you are taking all the fun and pleasure out of the story. Give students the chance to read it once through, then you can go chapter by chapter and dissect. 10. Setting up a book club Book clubs and reading groups are a great way for students to socialize and share their thoughts. This interaction makes reading so much more enjoyable, and it enhances their comprehension skills.

12 Conclusion There is an old saying, \"The pen is mightier than the sword.\" Ideas written down have changed the destiny of men and nations for the better. The flow of ideas cannot be stopped. We need to read and research to build on the good ideas and expose the bad ideas before they bring destruction. Only by reading can we be armed in this never-ending, life-and-death struggle. Finally, why is reading important? Reading is important because words - spoken and written - are the building blocks of life. You are, right now, the result of words that you have heard or read and believed about yourself. What you become in the future will depend on the words you believe about yourself now. People, families, relationships, and even nations are built from words. Think about it. Finally, we conclude our report here by listing all the facts, benefits as well as the positive changes that it can bring in our lives. Furthermore, we have also mentioned how we may procrastinate at some point of time in our lives while reading but the most important thing is that we should never give up and read as many things as we can. We hope that you will find your motivation after reading this report and going through our presentation. Thank you!

Recommendations 14 1. Classics: You may think of these books as the throwback readings you were assigned in English class. (Looking at you, Charles Dickens.) The classics have been around for decades, and were often groundbreaking stories at their publish time, but have continued to be impactful for generations, serving as the foundation for many popular works we read today. 2. Comic Book or Graphic Novel The stories in comic books and graphic novels are presented to the reader through engaging, sequential narrative art (illustrations and typography) that's either presented in a specific design or the traditional panel layout you find in comics. With both, you'll often find the dialogue presented in the tell-tale \"word balloons\" next to the respective characters.

3. Detective and Mystery 15 The plot always revolves around a crime of sorts that must be solved—or foiled—by the protagonists. 4. Fantasy While usually set in a fictional imagined world—in opposition, Ta- Nehisi's Coates's The Water Dancer takes place in the very real world of American slavery—fantasy books include prominent elements of magic, mythology, or the supernatural. 5. Cookbooks Traditionally penned by professional chefs or even your favorite celebs, cookbooks offer an appetizing collection of recipes, specific to a theme, cuisine, or experience chosen by the author.
