Bana Ahmed | MDXSU President As a new PhD student in Biomedical Sciences (Cancer Research) here at Middlesex University that has been out of reach of Academia for several years now since the pursuit of my MSc in Molecular Medicine and Cancer Research at Brunel University; I can say that I presumed that finding my place within the University would be quite difficult however after nearly four months at the University I have never felt at as ease as now throughout this journey of my life. The reason is that the University presents such as diverse community from all walks of life with varying backgrounds and covering and including all of the different and significant aspects of life that is required for a student to successfully accomplish and achieve their desired set life goals. As a British Kurdish citizen of the UK, I am prepared to take all my experiences and knowledge including communication skills etc attained over the years within the workplace and Academia to put in place and apply it to do everything in my power for students to acquire the skills and knowledge required for fulfilling their set dream goals hence their forthcoming life adventures by been their voice. I live for empowering all individuals to aim higher and be more confident in life hence help create an imaginative vision of their lives (their voice). I will also highly endeavor to represent students at all meetings including national/international events and be their much needed voice considering the speed of the pace the world is evolving so swiftly at (educational opinions and requirements). Finally, with my key fundamental basis of attributes that makes me whole as an individual of been kind, caring, loyal, trustworthy, optimistic, extremely determined, motivated, and a highly hardworking person with the passion to always want to know what may possibly happen next for the better, of course; I will aim highly to empower students to always have a positive outlook on life by representing their educational needs for a successful and rewarding life experience within the University and afterwards. Thanking you in advance and my best sincere wishes for you all. Kind regards, Bana
Ellen Owusu | MDXSU President My name is Ellen Owusu a masters student of International business management and I am running for student president of Middlesex university. As a past student voice and SLA, I have had the opportunity to work with amazing student body and program management. Working as student voice leader in my program gave me a clear view of both the positive and negative perspectives of Middlesex university. Of which, I aim to establish a proper perspective of students needs in both academics and social wellbeing of students of Middlesex. I would ensure that students views are well represented and taken into consideration. As your student president, I aim to establish the following policies that would benefit students and the university entirely. 1. One of the key student issues is accommodation settling in for first years especially for international students. Therefore, I would like to use this opportunity if voted for to discuss with the management of the school on how best this issue would be resolved to relieve international and local students of the stress of accommodation and other infrastructure. 2. Secondly, social intervention programmes such as scholarship skims for students to be improved. This can be done by departments rewarding hardworking students of their efforts. This would help as a relief system or form of motivation for students to thrive higher in their academic ladder. 3. Middlesex university is one of the schools that are highly inclusive. However, if I am voted in power, I would like to expand inclusion in a form of inter departmental games, quizzes and other fun programs that would properly enhance the inclusion policies of the school. 4. Lastly, I would like to implement more employability opportunities in a form of internship programs, training and webinar programs that would make student have a better view of the job market after school. Also this would expose students to the practical job market even before school. In view of this, I would need the maximum support from students to vote me in power to make a positive impact on students lives, the academic body and the entire university. Thank you. Ellen Owusu
Farraz | MDXSU President I will bridge the gap between teachers and the students to the best of my ability. I will bring forward any suggestions and ideas which students have to offer to the management at MDX for an improved learning environment and for better opportunities which promote growth.

Klodjan Bahcja | MDXSU President Hi everyone, I’m Klodjan, a 3D desing & Visiual Arts Foundation student and I will be running for the post of MDXSU President. You may not associate Art with President but when it comes to Changes, it is essential that you think like a Artist. Having previously obtained the role of Student Voice Leader for the Foundation Year, I have a clear insight of the role and problems handling. My initial aim is to raise awareness of our Student’ Union and all of the organisations, societies and volunteering opportunities available to the individuals at the Middlesex University. I hope to work closely with Staff, Students and Alumni by using all forms of social media to promote said opportunities. A union that approaches you to resolve your issues instead of vice versa I want to be remembered as a student president who pursued the wishes of the students and accomplished many great things. I will be willing to do anything within my power to achieve this as the students are my main concern. To feel safe and comfortable regardless of Age, Race, Religion, Gender and Sexual Orientation As student president, I would bring leadership, commitment and creativity to the role along with a strong work ethic and a positive mental attitude. Over the next year I want to see more power in the hands of students and this will be an underlying objective of any changes that I make over my term. A union that listens and is free to do what you want As Student President it will be my aim to ensure that all students' voices are heard. My motivation is simple; I believe in this university and through the collective work of the student union, staff and the students, we can continue with the great progress that this university is making. My final aim is to increase communication between the Students’ Union and the students to try and provide everyone with regular updates on what the Student’s Union is doing to improve the experience of all students. Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to get in contact With me.

Ndubuisi Idejiora-Kalu | MDXSU President Dear Friends, Today, our university experiences a multiplicity of diversities, a \"diversity reality\" never seen in the history of this great university! This diversity reality draws its strength from the evolution of the social inertia of our world which continues to draw people from distant lands and cultures together in the most interesting ways ever known. You look around the university and you'll see students from different cultures and countries all mixing happily together. Studies show that globalization, socio-economic and political imbalances, advanced Internetworked technologies and the increased ubiquitous nature of these technologies and the information they possess or process and made available at our finger tips today have all continued to heighten curiosity of people, pushing them to further move to experience new cultures. Because our university is a global center of excellence in research and education, in a city known for its cosmopolitan nature, our university is at the center stage of this new global trend. Coming from Nigeria, the most populous African nation with over 200 ethnic groups, over 500 languages and many foreigners living there, I believe I am by dint of fate better positioned to understand and manage this diversity reality in our university today. My envision for us is predicated on my \"near-to-the-student\" policy. I believe that while studying here it is important that students experience the communality the multi-diverse environment the university offers, have a strong voice for their rights and needs while building lasting relationships which may continue even after Uni days. If voted in as your president, I will see that under my \"near-to-the-student\" policy, a better support system for enabling students support their fees, research and welfare needs is made possible. My idea is to implement a Public Private Partnership (PPP) MDX Direct Student Support Programme which would draw the private sector in Britain on a compulsory Tax provision support scheme that would transform to funds and directly co-fund Middlesex University students with fees, research and welfare requirements. This support will be for ALL students. Reasons why this aspect of our student needs is a priority for me is because the available grants and charities in our university today do not meet the high demand of students and their prevailing economic challenges. This unfortunate reality has continued to make it impossible for most students in our university to continue their studies. The drop-out rate of especially foreign students in UK universities (online and physical presence routes) has become astronomical. In my \"near-to-the-student\" policy of directly addressing student core needs, something drastic has to be done and I will eradicate this obnoxious trend in our university. The PPP program also has an arrangement for linking-up students with industry to support their research and possible eventual employment after their studies here. To you I consider not only students but also the best brains in the world studying, I humbly request you vote me in as your next president. Thank you. Ndubuisi Idejiora-Kalu Doctoral Candidate Transdisciplinary Practice (International Relations)

Being at university is a major step for all of us. The Student Union is important in helping students make the most of their experiences at this important stage. It will be my personal goal to identify and eliminate issues and gaps within the practices of faculties and improve students' experiences in their courses, cooperating with the University. I aim to make the Student Union work for all students so that it makes a real difference in their student experience, personal development and life after university. The Student Union also contributes to spreading the word about Middlesex so that people will want to come to study with us. As President, I will translate the vision and values of Middlesex into a vision for the Student Union. This guide should be available for any Middlesex students or staff members within the next couple of months. If you would like more initiatives like this to promote equity and inclusivity throughout the university, vote me to be your Equity and Inclusions officer for the 2023/24 academic year.
Jay Suryavanshi | Equity & Inclusion Officer
Khadija Raniya | Equity & Inclusion Officer To the recruiter, as a motivated and ambitious student, I was drawn towards this position. Ambassador posting. When I reviewed the requirements for this position, I was excited to see the job responsibilities, and the opportunities for me to assist and learn. I come from a technical background (I.T. engineer) and currently pursuing M.Sc Business Information Systems Management. Regardless of my background, I believe I am a qualified candidate for this position. A lot of third culture kids have this shared experience of never feeling fully accepted by one side or the other. Even though I was born and spent majority of my life in the Middle East, I always had to prove I was Arab enough to fit in and despite Hindi being my first language I’m labelled as an NRI (Non-Resident Indian) in my native country. However, as an adult I now realize being a hybrid product of multiple environments comes with its advantages and for me it’s been by colliding those two worlds together. Authenticity is the concept we’ve created that limits our creativity and freedom and while it’s still important to give recognition to every individual, just the way the best cooks all make staple dishes in their unique ways based on their past experiences, every individual is molded in their unique way. Therefore, no I don’t belong to one group and as it is said you get the best of both worlds and that’s how I approach the world where authenticity is just a myth. As a result of my personal experience, I am more connected to and passionate about this position because I know I will have a significant impact on other students as Middlesex University attracts students from different parts of the world and is celebrated for its diversity and inclusivity. I grew up with a constantly evolving technology so I had to make sure that I was on top of learning about anything new I could get my hands on, which developed an ability to learn and share knowledge at every step of the way. Throughout my undergrad degree and my high school, I had the zeal to go above and beyond to assist my peers and my juniors. To be certain that everyone around me knew they can turn to me with any help they needed, I successfully assisted my juniors and classmates in developing their ability to problem-solve, approach the subject in a way that they could grasp the concepts and apply them. In the year 2020, during the global pandemic, I started a business- Levantine Delights, where I did everything from scratch, from preparing meals to managing social media page all at once and that’s how I aced my multitasking skills. I love to take part in events and I was the Graphic Designer Head of my College’s Ecell Club, member of the College’s Robotics Club, went to government schools like TMRIES (Telangana Minority Residential School) to teach the students. I conducted workshops on \"equality and diversity\" and got certified and recognized by the Telangana State Government of India for extending services in helping under-privileged school students. I believe my passion and commitment qualify me for this position. I intend to work diligently and to develop the ability to give my all. I am capable of multitasking, and have an incredible people-oriented personality. I am proud of my strong communication and interpersonal abilities which enable me to easily connect with others. Kindly consider me for this position after reviewing my application. I eagerly look forward the opportunity. I appreciate your consideration and time.

Richard Oluwatimilehin Deliha | Equity & Inclusion Officer I am Richard Deliha and I am running for the 'Equity and Inclusions Officer' role. In order for Middlesex university to be truly progressive, it must be accessible, inclusive ,and profitable for all. If I do get the post, my intentions are 1. Aaliyah Shodipe | Community & Citizenship Officer Hello, my name is Aaliyah, and I'm in my second year studying psychology and neuroscience. The reason I'm standing for this post is to help the students at this university. My aim is to identify the problems in our community and work to make them better. Why Should I Be Voted In? The reason I should be voted as the community officer is that I'm confident I can have a positive effect on this area. It is a personal ambition of mine to make improvements and support the students on and off campus. It's not just important to do well academically, but it's also necessary to have a great time at university. We, as a community, need to feel involved, taken seriously and heard and if I'm elected I'll make sure that happens. I have a lot of transferable skills and a great work ethic, which will enable me to represent you. These abilities can be seen in my previous job where I worked as a youth worker on a voluntary basis. My action plans are: Mental Health Problems: I think mental health is an issue at the university which is not addressed properly. The Psychiatric Morbidity Survey indicates that 16-24 year-olds have a higher prevalence of mental health difficulties, which is adversely affecting their education. This implies that young adults may require more mental health support when studying at university. If elected, I will make sure that those with mental health issues get extra assistance by providing more counselling sessions. Developing Essential Skills: Many students graduate with excellent academic knowledge but lack the development skills necessary for the job role. To bridge this gap, we can provide training and mentoring to better equip our students for work life. Establishing stronger links with employers and providing our students with an opportunity to gain invaluable experience can help them gain a competitive edge. Creating a Sense of Community: A sense of community is essential to ensure our students' well-being. To build a stronger community, we can hold more traditional events in each calendar month such as Black History Month, Holocaust event, and World Peace day. This not only enables our students to feel more involved and included, but also helps them appreciate the diversity of our university. Providing Job Opportunities: Although there are part-time job opportunities available for students, more needs to be done to ensure everyone has access to them. To this end, we should work closely with the employment team and create more job opportunities to benefit our students on and off campuses.
Chinnu Suresh | Community & Citizenship Officer As the Community & Citizenship Officer candidate for the Student Union of the United Kingdom, I believe that our society has to become more connected, more inclusive and more aware of the world around us. In order to achieve this, we need to create an environment in which all our members can participate in activities that promote community engagement and civic responsibility. 1. I will work to ensure that our student union is open and welcoming to all members, regardless of their background or identity. This includes providing resources, support and guidance for members from all communities, whether they are from the United Kingdom or abroad. 2. I will promote and encourage civic engagement among our members, in particular by providing opportunities for them to participate in community activities, events and initiatives. 3. I will work to ensure that our student union is accessible to all members, regardless of their physical, mental or financial capacity. This includes providing resources, support and guidance to members with disabilities, chronic illnesses or mental health issues. 4. I will work to ensure that our student union is inclusive and non-discriminatory. This includes providing resources, support and guidance to members who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or from minority ethnic backgrounds. 5. I will advocate for social justice and equality in our society, by promoting unity and understanding among all members of our student union. 6. I will work to ensure that our student union is an environment in which our members can feel safe and secure, free from any form of discrimination or harassment. 7. I will work to ensure that our student union is an advocate for sustainability, by promoting initiatives that reduce our environmental impact and encourage our members to be mindful of their actions. 8.I will work to ensure that our student union is a platform for education, by providing resources, support and guidance to our members on a variety of topics, such as politics, economics and social issues To conclude I believe that by creating an environment in which all our members can participate in activities that promote community engagement and civic responsibility, we can ensure that our student union is a place where everyone feels welcome and can be an active member of our society.I am committed to working for the benefit of our student union and its members, and I am confident that together we can create a society that is more connected, more inclusive and more aware.I am committed to achieving this goal and will work to ensure that our student union is open, welcoming and inclusive to all.
Colin Sydney | Community & Citizenship Officer I have been in this university for 3 months. And I didn’t even know that the Student Union existed. Even with the MDX gym membership, I didn’t even know that the student union office is on the same floor. I want to change that. Being the community leader, I wish to make sure that everyone knows that the student union represent the students by working with the students regardless of nationality, race, gender or sex. I will always be available for the students to approach instead of just as a figurehead. Your voice matters and I will make it heard. I have extensive experience in leadership positions. Been the prefect of my class in school, sports champion, part of the debate team as well as Model UN Parliament. No situation scares me and you need someone who will fight for you and not just a YES MAN.

Mandisa Mlungu | Community & Citizenship Officer \"If Not You, Then Who?!\" Though enveloped by red tape, students are still the heartbeat of Middlesex University. Positive, fair, extraordinary evolution should come from us, I stand by the notion that bad things happen because good people remain silent. I am one individual and I can't possibly do everything alone, however, I can assist, listen where an ear is needed, and relay the message to the \"red tape\". I'm a black, international, female student that was fortunate enough to be a student at MDX, so if challenges would be the word for the day id say I've seen my own fair share over the course of my studies. As a community & citizenship officer, I'd hope to: • Cement a better relationship between the trustee board & students. • Help fellow students within my capabilities. • Assist with growing a better culture within the school and community, I'm grateful for the changes the predecessors made but there will forever be room for improvement. Change comes from US, We are the CHANGE!

Connagh West | Academic Experience Officer Hi! My name is Connagh West, i’m a 3rd Year BA Music Business and Arts Management student and one of the current SVL’s for my cohort for the 4th year running. In the role as Academic Experience Officer for Middlesex Universities Students Union, I intend to take action in ensuring equitable representation is given to student groups of all backgrounds and ensure that underrepresented student groups are given a suitable platform to voice ways in which they can be better represented. I am running in the elections for this role as my time as an SVL on my course has inspired me to want to further generate change and improvement across the way in which the union is utilised by students. I’d like to be able to act during the time in this role in ways that can reassure students that the union has their best academic interests at heart and that their voices and concerns around their academic experiences are valid and listened to. I intend to do this by; 1.) Ensuring that students of Middlesex University are equitably represented in their academic experiences, meeting the needs of collective and individual students across all backgrounds. This would be done by further improving the relationship between students and their union through the SVL scheme, which is necessary to ensure that students are represented within their cohort. 2.) Listening to and meeting the individual needs of students. I believe students should feel comfortable in confiding in their union and deserve to feel confident that the union has their back. The best way in which i’d reassure and reinstate this is to encourage students to approach their Group Leaders, Trustees and Officers with individual academic queries that otherwise couldn’t be mediated through the term PVG meetings. 3.) To ensure accessibility needs regarding education at Middlesex are met. This would include further gathering information on what resources can further assist students with needs to accessibility and what can be improved in order to further enrich the academic experiences Middlesex University has to offer, as well as ensuring these suggestions are acted upon and implemented timely. I pledge to ensure that all student voices are heard and prioritised!
