Smart Urbanization is the key to safer cities of tomorrow Urbanization is the movement of people from the countryside or rural areas to go to more developed urban areas like towns and cities. This leads to rapid growth in these areas. The movements are usually motivated by the belief that urban areas have more to offer in terms of growth, job opportunities, and development than the rural areas. Urbanization in Bangladesh is a growing phenomenon. Approximately 25 percent of Bangladesh's current population lives in urban areas. By 2035, nearly 110 million people, about half of its total population, are expected to live in urban areas of the country. Of the urban population, more than half lives in the eight metropolitan cities/divisions: Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, etc. There are two reasons for urbanization. The first one is the agriculture sector is no longer able to absorb the surplus labor force entering the economy every year, so people have to seek employment outside agriculture. The second one is about employment opportunities existing in the major cities. Most of the industrial enterprises and businesses are concentrated in the large cities. For these reason the urban cities of Bangladesh are facing several problems such as lack of economic dynamism, governance failure, severe infrastructure and service deficiencies, inadequate land administration, massive slums and social breakdown. To get relief from these crisis Smart sustainable city will be the great solution.
