CHONRADSADORNUMRUNG SCHOOL ENGLISH PROGRAM CHONBURI, THAILAND TRANSITION TO THE \"NEW NORMAL\" OF LEARNING. WE ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE! VOL. XIII NO. 26

THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS CHANGED EDUCATION FOREVER DR. ROONGTIP PROMSIRI School Director The COVID-19 outbreak has caused colossal interruption to the all the elementary, middle and high school systems, along with long held mindset about teaching and learning. After spending months of virtual and both onsite and virtual teaching/learning, a new perceptive of the learning core has emerged in most school systems all over the world. Often seen as a relationship between teacher, student, and learning materials that support students’ learning, these leaders expanded their understanding of the learning core to include families. Learning and teaching during a COVID pandemic unravels the value of prime learning materials for teaching-studying cooperation: 1. Broaden the required amount of “high quality” learning materials to be family friendly, technically improved and culturally sensitive. 2. Apply high quality teaching methods and materials to coordinate academic coproduction between the four anchors of the extended crux. 3. Support extra curriculum and academic-based professional learning focused on an expanded crux, with a clear focus on the application of high-quality teaching/ learning materials in a way that is needed and expected of both teachers and students, families and communities. 4. Create systems and structures for teachers, students and families to design, auditor and enhance the teaching/learning process. As a result, Chonradsadornumrung School appreciates the English Program’s continued commitment to providing the global education that students and society demand. EP has persisted in conducting online activities such as Leadership Camp, Math Camp, Mattayom 6 webinars, and other related activities. Most significantly, students are constantly prepared to participate in online competitions such as Speech, for which they are currently preparing for the Final Competition, and even Short Film Competition, which combines Science, English, and Computer and Technology. We are transitioning to a new way of learning that requires a lot of invention, creativity, teamwork, and commitment. Chonradsadornumrung School’s English Program, I believe, is heading in the right direction.

CRU EP ADHERENCE TO EFFECTIVE TEACHING MANAGEMENT MS. DUANPEN TAN-NGOEN Deputy Director The danger of Covd-19, a lack of engagement and accountability, and the frequent switch from online to onsite learning were just a few of the challenges confronted by all ed- ucational institutions during the epidemic. Nonetheless, these obstacles did not prevent Chonradsadornumrung School, particular- ly the English Program, from persevering and meeting the challenges of providing high-qual- ity, relevant instruction on a continuing basis. One of the time-tested approach EP has followed is the adherence to effective teach- ing management. Our administration has always supported the English Program in its efforts to improve instructional management. It should be mentioned that when there is an excellent online teaching learning process, students will be highly engaged. This relates to a student’s level of focus, participation, curiosity, excitement, optimism, and passion while learning, as well as the level of encouragement and progress they have to make in their schooling. Even in face-to-face interactions, most teachers find this a difficult undertaking; imagine how much more so with online learning. Thereby, teachers must combine their creativity and talents with a variety of online resources in order for pupils to be engaged in the classes. When it comes to meetings, giving classwork and feedback, and submitting assigned projects, the adoption of online platform such as Google Classroom Suite eased and stream- lined the learning experience, easing the challenge of online learning. In order to improve accountability and reliability, even the types of assessments have evolved in novel ways. Other reliable interactive technologies are used, including Google Forms with restrictions, performance and project-based assessment, and other trustworthy interactive technologies. Most importantly, in order for the teaching and learning to be validated as effective, the head monitors the classes on a regular basis, whether they are online or onsite. Observing teachers is an important element of their development; it increases the teacher’ self-aware- ness of their abilities while also assisting administrators in finding areas for improvement. The greatest prize we may have is the fulfillment of quality education when there is excellent teaching management. The priceless gift a school can give to its students, parents, and society is the total development of the students. Whatever challenges may come, CRU EP is here to stay.

MS. WARUNEE SURANGSEE EP Sets Out on a Bold New Adventure: Head of English Program Blended Learning Implementation As the Covid-19 pandemic continues on, our English program persisted this year in delivering outstanding achievements from both our students and staff. As we did our best to keep everybody safe and healthy, we faced the continual challenges of having students’ study both on-site and online from home. Although it has not been easy, all our teachers and staff have risen to the occasion to ensure that all of our students are receiving the education they need to be successful. In fact, in modern times, learning how to create a powerful learning environment utilizing the world of the internet is more important than ever. Our young and inspiring students are growing up in a world that is completely shaped by technology and the internet. The balance that our teachers are creating between online and in-person learning can be likened to the balance that many of our students must already create in their own world, between their lives online and their lives face to face. Having innovative and caring teachers who can rise to this occasion and guide our students through these uncertain days, while navigating this delicate equilibrium, has proven to be essential for our English program’s continual prosperity. While we have been studying online, our teachers have utilized a wide variety of digital educational tools that have strengthened classroom engagement and fostered growth in our students’ capabilities. Furthermore, as students have slowly been able to return to the classroom, we have seen a lovely welcoming back together of students reuniting with friends, teachers reconnecting with their students, and in person students maintaining engagement with their peers who remained online. Here are some of our successful learning methods and approaches that we believe aid us in our mission to provide high-quality, relevant education. Blended learning is a teaching method that blends technology and digital media with teacher-led activities in the classroom to give students more influence over their learning. When students interact with content online, some learning takes place in a way that allows them to pick their own path and speed. Some learning takes place in the presence of a teacher in a classroom setting. A fully integrated learning environment is created by combining online and onsite learning. We also integrate the concepts of synchronous and asynchronous learning. When both the teacher and the students are online at the same time, this is known as synchronous learning. There is a set of schedules for meeting times and dates. Teachers use Google Meet or Zoom to give lessons and provide immediate feedback to students by telling them directly or putting messages in the chat box. Asynchronous learning is thus undertaken during the time when the students’ internet connections are down. Students are expected to access the content and tasks via the internet, depending on the availability of devices or an internet connection, but they must adhere to the submission deadline. The teacher can provide feedback at a later date via e-mail. Teachers were also encouraged to attend webinars and other trainings linked to innovative techniques in order to further strengthen the teaching and learning process. Plickers, Kahoot, Quiz Whizzer, Quizlet, Socrative, Spinning Wheel, Quzzizz, Live Worksheets, and other learning online tools help learners become more involved. Although the future remains uncertain and safety is our first priority, we are hopeful for what the new year might bring to us, and certain that our blended learning experience from this year will benefit us greatly! Come to CRU EP and become a part of a diverse, caring family that is prepared to overcome all obstacles, as we accept the challenges of transitioning to a “New Normal of Learning.”

One of the most enjoyable classes for me has been Edutainment with M3 on a Friday, it’s a great way to end the week! In Edutainment, we learn English through various forms of entertainment including sports, movies, TV shows, games and more… For their final, students gave a 3 minute presentation of their favorite forms of entertainment, explaining why they like it with examples. Before doing the presentation, students were asked to produce an infographic of one form of entertainment. Here are 5 examples: Kao M3/1 Kimhun Kong M3/2 M3/2 Ing M3/2

To speak, or not to speak? or how to make your speaking club modern and useful f For many English learners, speaking is the most challenging part of the language to master. To improve your speaking skills, you need to practice with other English learners and speakers. “Practice, practice, practice in speaking before an audience will tend to remove all fear of audiences, just as practice in swimming will lead to confidence and facility in the water. You must learn to speak by speaking”. Dale Carnegie One of the best ways to practice your English is to join an English speaking club which will help students in language-learning process. There are a lot of reasons why English speaking clubs can help learners of any age and level to improve their spoken English: helping them to learn correct English pronunciation; giving the participants the freedom from conventional academic syllabi; providing opportunities for learners to improve listening skills and practice speaking interactively; creating opportunities for students to express their opinions etc., and there are other advantages, as well. Speaking club is less formal than any classroom setting. Many students find clubs much more fun than usual English lessons. They also let the participants to practice English in real-life situations. This increases a learners’ desire of practicing and learning on their own. “I prefer informal (classes) because I think the ability of speaking continuously is the foundation of a good formal speech.” Tanatat Puangphol, M.4/2 “I like informal format of the lessons because I think it is easier than formal format of the lessons, informal format has more storytelling and that we (students) can talk more than during formal format lessons.” Jakrin Koksri, M.3/2 Reply And if the most difficult part for students is the actual speaking, “In class I try to arrange word in my head so it may take time.” Prathomlerk Vichakool, M 3/2 so for teachers – to attract students to the club and get their interest. Choosing the topics for the teacher can be also challenging. “What are your hobbies?”, “If you had more free time, what would you do?”, “What are your current goals in life?” – these are great topics, but they are so common and discussed all around the classes that students nowadays are sick and tired of them. Learners have changed. Teaching has changed. Expectations have changed. The students of today are sophisticated users of technology, they are multitasking constantly and can sometimes be more comfortable with the technology than they are interacted in the real world. The ways we taught 5 years ago don’t work anymore, the topics we used to discuss are not relevant anymore. We need to catch up.

STUDENTS LEARN IMPORTANT LIFE SKILLS IN HOUSEWORK Ms. Luz In today’s society, it is essential to know how to cook and man- age aspects of the home through class. Many people may think that they don’t need a class to teach basic essentials, but having a class that focuses solely on these aspects is exactly what we need at school. Learning how to make and sew multiple grilled cheeses is something everyone should learn from a young age. Home economics classes were not taught until the early 20th century. One of the most influen- tial examples was the Convention on the Domestic Economy for the Use of Young Women at Home, written by Catharine Beecher. Beecher argued that it was important to teach family life and apply scientific principles to things like cooking and household chores. Home Economics courses help teenagers develop their skills in house- hold finances, nutrition, cooking and a variety of other life skills. From childhood to adulthood, students need to be trained in what they say they need at school. For example, in Home Economics, you can learn how to leave an open wound untreated when injured, and how to deal with a family fire that is beneficial to students transitioning to adulthood. Home Economics not only teaches students cooking and safety, but also builds responsibility. It teaches teenagers to apply the skills they learned in class to their personal lives. When teens learn to take care of their home and themselves, it helps them become more responsible at home. Home Economics also teaches students to be savvy consumers. It helps students learn how to plan and spend their money wisely. In this course, teens growing up in adulthood learn what to apply to their daily lives, such as patience, attention, and situational aware- ness. Society will greatly benefit from having at least four years of home economic education. Housekeeping will have a major impact on today’s society. By taking these courses for at least four years, teens can become more responsible and aware of how to take care of themselves in adulthood rather than relying on their parents for the basics. increase. With these courses, parents can give their children a little more confidence when leaving them alone.

VIRTUAL LEADERSHIP CAMP 2022 “LEADERS OF TOMORROW BEGIN TODAY” Chonradsadornumrung School English Program continues to provide high-quality, relevant education, despite the pandemic. As a result, one of the yearly programs, Leadership Training Camp, is held online in order to continue empowering the students. The goal of this meaningful activity is to prepare Mattayom 5 students to run the English Camp. Teachers created online activities for students to practice hosting events, running games, and teaching songs. The three-day virtual camp is just the start. Following that, students practice planning and collaborating with one another in deciding on places and dates, arranging their own events, collaborating on designing certificates and logos, and making timetables for English Camp participants. They must, above all, communicate with themselves, the English Program’s staff, teachers, and administration, as well as other individuals both inside and outside the school. CRU recognizes the importance of giving students leadership opportunities throughout their education so that they may learn the art of building relationships within teams, identifying identities, and accomplishing work efficiently. This is CRU EP, developing leaders of tomorrow today.

CRU EP GLOCAL EDUCATION FUSION OF TECHNOLOGY AND LANGUAGE LEARNING A Project of M6/1 and M6/2 Students Background and Rationale of the Project Numerous local and international studies have shown that technology allows for more efficient interaction between teachers and students, making the learning and teaching process more student-centered, resulting in the development of students’ critical thinking skills as well as increased autonomy, confidence, and motivation to learn the English language. English proficiency is without a doubt one of the most important factors for students’ success in a globalized world. Knowing how to communicate in English allows you to connect with people and learn about different cultures, places, and lifestyles, as well as expand your job opportunities. Furthermore, English is widely spoken and taught in many countries, and it is widely used as a commercial or diplomatic language worldwide. It’s used in science, aerodynamics, computers, diplomacy, and tourism, among other things. Finally, it is the international language of communication, media, and the internet. As a result, the project “The Fusion of Technology and Language Learning’’ was initiated. The project’s leaders are 12th grade students (Mathayom 6) because they are taking the first steps toward pursuing a career and striving in their real- life journey. Despite the fact that the world is plagued by pandemics, advances in communication technology have increased access to information for many people around the world, particularly in education. Wherever there is a reliable internet connection, people with communication devices can access the diverse and rich information available online. As a result, a webinar on technology and English language learning to pave the way for successful career paths and other endeavors is timely, significant, and beneficial to students in the 12th grade and other learners worldwide.
