Mr. Amporn Issararak “We are fully prepared to overturn these DIRECTOR challenges into opportunities.” Greetings everyone. Happy New Year! I am delighted to be an integral part of Chonradsadornumrung School, the public secondary school that is continuously developing each student into their maximum potential. As we welcome another challenging year, I would like to encourage the teachers to continue improving, innovating and adapting the teaching and learning process. And to our students, be open-minded, be adventurous, be resourceful and be with us in achieving quality education. Significantly, this year, 2019, our country is slated to hold the ASEAN chairmanship. We are and we will always be a great contributor in the development and evolution of ASEAN. Being a member of ASEAN and of the global world has many challenges, but we should work to turn these challenges into opportunities. How? By being fully equipped with the necessary skills and expertise coupled with the right values. This will make those same challenges become our opportunities in landing a good job, running a good business, meeting a new friend or experiencing a fascinating culture. That’s why, it’s time for us to learn not only inside the classroom but we should also be aware of what’s happening in our community and the whole world. Most of all, it’s high time to strengthen our abilities and even acquire new skills. Teachers and students alike should learn new languages, for this will help in communicating your ideas, exchanging relevant cultures and even improving your lives. We are at the age where it is not just okay to sit down and watch the changes around us. Our English Program has always been rising above the challenges of the 21 st century. EP and all of our departments at CRU have been embodying the concepts of Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in their curriculum. Our subjects are aligned with the development of students’ skills in terms of career innovation and preservation of culture and tradition. In EP, we are offering various languages like Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. In their activities, even German, Spanish and Tagalog languages are practiced. In addition, facilities and materials are updated to be at pace with the influx of information and technology in the 21 st century. Most importantly, teaching strategies are constantly innovated to empower the new generation. I am certain that we will be facing more challenges. But I know that we are prepared to turn these challenges into opportunities that will change our lives for the better. Chonradsadornumrung School will always be a leading learning community where collaboration is practiced, innovation is explored, values and right conduct are observed and customs and traditions are preserved.

“How can one teacher meet the learning styles of 30 different students?” Mr. Chetta Pallakoon Deputy Director for Academics This year in the English Program, the educators have focused on using creative methods of teaching and discipline in a collaborative effort towards quality education. By implementing teaching strategies from each teacher’s home country towards this common goal, the holistic learning environment is one that aims to benefit the individual needs of the learners in each class. Creativity requires the teachers to approach specific concepts with the students in a variety of ways- visually, linguistically, and kinestheticaly to ensure the highest level of teaching for student understanding. These teaching methods seek to engage a range of skills, from critical thinking to problem solving, collaborative brainstorming and peer review to classroom debate and discussion. This challenges the students to expand their own thinking and learning as well as engage with their classmates throughout the learning process. Some teachers have also introduced multimedia approaches, such as the implementation of classroom apps, audio and visual aids, and other technology to provide an interactive learning environment. As always, the teachers are also incorporating real world and interdisciplinary connections into lessons, to encourage students to apply learned skills throughout various subjects as well as beyond the classroom. Many of the teachers come from various cultural backgrounds, and their unique perspectives help to expand the student’s knowledge and interests. For the older students, in particular, it is vital to challenge their thinking and solicit their opinions on advanced topics as they progress towards the later stages of education. By introducing real- world situations and hypothetical scenarios into lessons, students can practice decision-making, teamwork, and practical skills. These efforts on behalf of the entire English Program focus of integrating cultures within the classroom and providing quality education to the students of each class, regardless of learning style and ability. By continuing to introduce innovative methods of teaching and discipline,

Ms. Warunee Surangsee This is our EP - a simple family HEAD, English Program living in a diverse world yet united in giving a quality education. CRU EP – an English Program working as a diverse yet united family; a program designed to empower the new generation amidst the challenges of our times. For so many years, we have been adapting, modifying and innovating our program to cater to needs of the students and to address the challenges of the global education. There may be problems that come our way, but we are still standing strong; thereby we continuously provide quality education. One simple strategy that I would like to share with you is the application of the principles of “Research Based Instructional Strategy.” Let me define first what this technique is. From Study.com, research-based teaching approaches are a set of instructional strategies you can apply that have risen from research in the fields of linguistics and second language learning. This means that I research first what the needs of our students are to meet the challenges of the 21 st century. Based on my research, this is just one example from the various studies that I am doing, it is imperative that the students become engaged in active communication. A communication in which critical thinking is involved. This pertains to being able to express their ideas clearly, analyze other ideas impose upon them to generate a fruitful conversation and to be able to stand confidently in sharing his or her thoughts in front of the people. Thus, the birth of Public Speaking Class at Period 0 from 7.30-8.30, Academic Year 2016. We prepared relevant learning outcomes, used updated reference books and employed engaging teaching strategies. Though we observed improvement with the speaking ability of our students, the early class schedule made it difficult for some of the students to come on time. I decided to move it to regular class schedule, integrating Public Speaking in Additional English. I was amazed with the results. Slowly, the students are reaping its benefits. Now, we have students who capped the top places in Public Speaking Contests and Debate Contests. We can also tap students to be MCs in our programs. And even in international gatherings or competitions, we have students who can confidently step in and garner awards. Relatively, they can use these skills in the future during job interviews or to achieve great results in the workplace. This is just one example in which Research Based Approach has been very useful in helping our students. As of now, there’s another study that I am carrying out. It is about the listening skills of our students. Based on their test results, the students need to improve their listening skills. As you well know, listening skills are not only important to have effective communication, but to learn in other disciplines as well. Currently our Period 0 is Listening Class. During this class period, we are providing students various listening exercises from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and The Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL). CEFR is an international standard for describing language ability; IELTS is proficiency test for higher education and global migration; and TOEFL is a test which measures an individual’s English language skills to see if they are good enough to take a course at university or graduate school in English-speaking countries. Achieving listening skills from these tests will surely propel our students to success when they apply in national or international university, and work within the country or abroad. Our educational approaches in EP are employed scientifically and systematically coupled with commitment, dedication and love. Most of all, our program is spiced up with the beauty of diversity. This is our EP - a simple family living in a diverse world, battling and resolving educational issues, adapting, modifying and innovating learning indicators, outcomes and strategies to provide “World Class Education.”

On My Desk MRS. GIRLIE S. PEPE EXPLORE AND INVESTIGATE It was again another time of the year where Science, Math and Technology collaborated to hold another STEM- Based learning camp experience, the “SMat Camp.” Our Mathayom 1 are the participants. The students learned figures in Math, code and programs in computer. They also had critical viewing activities using videos and pictures in Science. Thought-provoking activities were conducted during the camp. In addition, students understood the value of teamwork by sharing each others’ ideas to solve the given task. Furthermore, they had the chance to showcase their inner talents by exploring, investigating and experiment with the things outside the classroom. Above all, they were able to build their self- confidence in presenting their ideas. Through this camp, the students experienced learning “outside the box” using the concept in Science, Math and Technology. TANATAT PUANGPHOL M1/2 I’ve got mixed feelings about the competition. First, I was so nervous when they were about to announce the result. Second, I was so grateful because they recognized my effort. I was also shocked because I didn’t think that I would win. There were so many competitors in this contest. Lastly, I was relieved because the competition was over. To everyone, here’s a short quote. “Don’t give up. The beginning is always the hardest. Life rewards those who work hard at it.” - Unknown

INTERACTIVE LEARNING IN SCIENCE Denjel Gay R. Casona Designed by : Chanyanat Kafak Science is both a body of knowledge that represents current understanding of natural systems and the process whereby that body of knowledge has been established and is being con- tinually extended, refined, and revised. Both elements are es- sential: one cannot make progress in science without an under- standing of both. Also, Science is a core subject for a very im- portant reason as it allows pupils to experience different inves tigations which enable them to grasp a vast range of skills which results in rich understanding for the subject. Many of the students are driven by practical work and experi- ences and discussions in the classroom that are creative and encourage the learners to think scientifically; therefore stu- dents can use ideas from across the curriculum to help them ex- press their thought processes and understanding. In addition, educating individuals of all ages the true essence of science, and granting learners the opportunities to pursue a career in the field would motivate them to increase their level of participation. Science is not just about memorizing chemistry or physics formulas or even following other individuals' experi- mental procedures. It is also about you finding evidence to sup- port your own theory, asking your own questions, developing your very own scientific process along the way, and discovering the unknown, and, ultimately, your very own answers. Teach- ers must give students the tools and background knowledge to build their experiments; however, from that point onwards, stu- dents must take the initiative to perform the research and de- velop a procedure. Additionally, to encourage participation in science, the com- munity can create science-related opportunities for the younger generation, and empower them to make a difference.

The world health organization stated that there were about 212 million malaria cases in 2015. Most of them were young children, pregnant women and non-immune travelers from malaria-free areas. This is just one of the cases of the alarming cases of malaria. The most important question is: How can we prevent it? Ladies and gentlemen. I’m Nunnapat Phosri, the founder of Mosqlet. The inspiration behind this project was my brother. My brother likes to go to mangrove forests and he always gets a lot of mosquito bites. But the main problem is he can’t use mosquito repellent spray because it irritates his skin. So, I asked myself “What can I do to help my brother and others who are also suffering from the same condition?”. After doing some research, I have come up to the conclusion that the best way to repel mosquitoes is not spraying on skin, but evaporating repellent into the air around our body. Most repellent contain DEET that is harmful to living things and environment. But these problems will be gone if you use our products, Mosqlet. Mosqlet i s a mosquito repellent bracelet that has beautiful design of Papua New Guinea. It has special beads to keep refill-able repellent sheet made from sugar cane and it is biodegradable. Each sheet contain repellent made from Thai herbs that lasts for 3 days. Instead of buying new bracelet, you just only change the repellent sheet and bury the old one in the soil. This will be useful for tourists who visit Papua New Guinea. Besides repelling mosquitoes, they can also buy it for a souvenir. Furthermore, our customers can be part of giving playgrounds and mosquito nets to local people by 10% of every purchase. By selling mosqlet at the airport distributed by tour guides in Papua New Guinea, our gross profit after subtracting the cost of goods from the revenue would be 7 million Baht. The reasons why we believe that it is a great opportunity to introduce Mosqlet to Papua New Guinea are: 1. No one has ever used mosquito repellent as an accessory before 2. The price is affordable because our materials can be found in Thailand. We can’t deny that technology is progressing every single day. Technology is, indeed, paving paths to the future. But it’s our choice whether we take a path made out of grass or a path made out of plastics. Today, I have presented my innovative product that will not only benefit people but also preserve our mother nature. Help me save our planet.

This shrine is on the Repulse Bay. This bay is man- made. Then I remembered something again. I’ve been here before. I was swimming in the sea with 2 little girls. We all had a great time. I went back to the hotel, packed my things. Suddenly, I was in my bedroom. The TV was on. The newscaster was talking about the tourist spots in Hong Kong. I saw myself swimming. Did I travel? But it was only dream? Suddenly, I hear loud knocks. My mother, she was calling me. “Wake up or you’ll be late for school!” I stood up, I saw my journal. Nothing was written in it. What’s happening to me? I called my Mom! I told her everything. She looked at me and said, “You are a very creative lady.” Come let’s eat. Was it a dream? Why am I on TV? What about you? When you are at a place where you are not familiar with, you will start asking yourself “ Where am I?” But if you have no choice but to stay at that place, you will try to survive. And when you do that, you’ll be amazed that you actually enjoy staying at the new place. This is my experience. My name is Chanon. I joined the Exchange Student program last year. I stayed in Idaho, USA for 10 months. My host family and I enjoyed every adventure activities the world could ever have. We did hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, and many more. High school was great, most people were lovely, only a few were sort of mean. But anyway, I participated in the Tennis club and it was awesome! Snow was a big thing for me because, in the state where I stayed, we went subzero for a long time, which means there was plenty of snow (storms). In addition, I was able to visit Yellowstone, where many wilderness recreations live near a volcanic hotspot. It was so fantastic. I can’t believe how much I saw! It has amazing wildlife and geyser. Then during the holidays like Christmas, Halloween, or others, I celebrated it in western style. I joined the trick-or-treating, getting Christmassy, or even silly thing like finding easter eggs with kids. I had such a good time living with them. Then, I had to go back to Thailand. People told me sometimes that it would be so hard to repeat the 11th grade, it must have been tough to be on your shoes. But I think it was totally worth it. This experience motivated and inspired me to always do my best. I really wish I could spend another year with them, it’s all worth it. Chanon Gulgattimas 5/1 Live life like never before Living abroad as an exchange student was one of the most memorable experiences in my life. Before my journey began, I decided to go to Ameri- ca because I wanted to improve my English skills and to challenge myself. Of course, I got all the things I expected to get. Furthermore, who knows I would get lots of precious gifts—my second home, family, brothers, friends who came from all over the world and lots of life lessons along the way. Who knows that being an exchange student wasn’t just traveling abroad and having fun. It’s the beginning of change. I got to step out of my comfort zone and saw things differently. I have changed into a new person, a better and a stronger one. Piriwan Lueangcharoenporn 5/1 Hola, mi nombre es Sirada Tanapirawat. Tengo 18 años. Soy estudiante de intercambio en Colombia por 1 año.
