➢ Julius “Mwalimu” Nyerere – (1922-1999). ➢ Former President of Tanzania. ➢ He had a vision of Education with social action, rich with possibility. ➢ His philosophy (Ujama – meaning family- hood) – emphasis was on self-reliance embedded in African Socialism. ➢ Attention was paid mainly for adult education.

➢Provide an inquisitive mind ➢Provide human beings with an ability to learn what others do ➢Provide a human being with basic competence to operate in her/his own position as free and equal member of society. ➢To plan is to choose. ➢Highest priority assigned to 4 major goals , such as; Access, Equity, Quality & Democracy.



➢ Practical education touches much on methods of tutelage ➢ Through practical education students develop reflective inquiry methods to life’s challenges. ➢ Try to help the students to study the examination papers of past years. ➢ Prepare learners for their responsibilities as free workers & citizens in a free and democratic society. ➢ Judge what questions are most likely to be asked next time. ➢ Concentrates about teaching. ➢ Engage together in productive activities with students.

➢ Students learn more, remember facts longer, and apply them to new situations better through real experience. ➢ Learners have to be able to interpret the decisions made through the democratic institutions of the society. ➢ Thinking for themselves and making judgements on all the issues affecting them and the entire community. ➢ Engage together in productive activities with teachers. ➢ Should participate in the planning and decision-making process of organizing their activities. ➢ Should begin school at 7 years. ➢ Should become self-confident and co-operative, and develop critical and inquiring minds.

➢Teach the students certain academic skills, at least in theory also. ➢Instead of the primary school activities being geared to the competitive examination. ➢Workshops ➢Adult learners have to participate in identifying their own learning needs & interests. ➢Teacher help the learner to develop his own potential and his own capacity.
