INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMMCGILL UNIVERSITY WILLIAM AND MARY BROWN BUILDING *Montreal, QCARCHITEM designed this new buildingfor McGill that consolidates its studentservices (healthcare, social services andadministrative offices, daycare etc). It’slocation at the geographical centre of thecampus provides a physical link betweenthe upper and lower Campus offering asheltered pedestrian route with entranceson McTavish, Dr. Penfield and Peel forstudents and the local population whileframing views of the city and campus.

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMSELWYN HOUSE SCHOOL *Westmount, QCAs winner of a competition of ideas,ARCHITEM executed a multi-phasedproject that included the design of a newbuilding to complement the architecturalensemble of the school and create a centrefor its urban campus. All the phaseswere coordinated to allow the normalfunctioning of the school on its premises.construction cost: $15,4 Mproject area: 3 500 sq. m.completion: 2006* in consortium

Phase 1 - $ 9 M - 2003New Construction: The new 3,500 squaremeters addition incorporates learning andcomputer centres, an exhibition/meetingspace and an underground gymnasium.Phase 2 - $ 4 M - 2004Renovation and reorganization of theexisting Lucas Building to house theelementary and middle school facilities.Phase 3 - $ 1.2 M - 2005Renovation of the senior school sciencelaboratories to provide a state-of-the-artlearning environment.Phase 4 - $ 1.2 M - 2006Creation of a performance and dining hallwithin the Lucas building with renovatedkitchen and serving facilities.

INSTITUTIONALARCHITEMBISHOP’S COLLEGE SCHOOL HARTLAND MOLSON PAVILION * construction cost : $ 6.5MLennoxville, QC project area : 4500 sq.m. completion : 2004ARCHITEM’sdesignandconstructionofthe * in consortiumNew Hartland Molson Pavilion created afocal point on the campus quadrangle.The pavilion consolidates all thecommunity activities; student centre,theatre, music / drama facilities andlearning centre.The mandate also included the renovationof the Patison Building, to provide state-of-the art science laboratories connected tothe new Pavilion.To complete the ensemble around thequad, this new complex connects to theexisting Arts Building via a bridge withan enclosed pedestrian circulation on theupper level.



INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMBISHOP’S COLLEGE SCHOOL MITCHELL HOUSELennoxville, QCNew 3-storey dormitory building for 36students incorporating two house parenthouses, resident scholar apartments and amultipurpose teaching space.Set in a collegial campus, sited to opento the natural terrain, forest, river andcampus, the design maximizes views to thesurrounding nature from the social spacesand bedrooms. Materials are selected tocomplement the campus palette of brick,pre-cast concrete and stone.project budget : $6Mproject area: 2200 sq.m.scheduled completion : Fall 2019

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMCONGREGATION SHAAR HASHOMAYIM & AKIVA SCHOOLMontreal, QC This phased project for this Jewish institution included transformational work for Akiva School. ARCHITEM designed an underground gym as well as renovating the school to accommodate double the elementary school population. Phase 1 – $2.5 M - 2004 Renovation of Metcalfe Social Hall, Lobby and adjacent amenities. Phase 2 – $2.7 M - 2004 Renovation and complete re-organization of Elementary School and Preschool Phase 3 – $3.2 M - 2005 Construction of a new underground gymnasium and exit stair volume for existing Sanctuary space. Phase 4 – $1.75 M - 2006 Renovation of Kensington Social Hall, administrative spaces and construction of a new floor area for Rabbinical services. Phase 5 – $600, 000 - 2008 Renovation of Akiva School Library

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMMISS EDGAR’S & MISS CRAMP’S SCHOOLWestmount, QCARCHITEM prepared a master plan andbudget study for the school’s expansionwithin the municipality’s restrictive by-laws. It included a new athletic facilityand classrooms built into the school’shilly terrain. From this study, the schoolexecuted a number of smaller projects.The projects included windowreplacement, the renovation &interior design of classrooms and thetransformation of the school’s gyminto a multi-purpose space includinga retractable stage, stage lighting andacoustic paneling.project cost : $ 2 Mcompletion : 2007

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMTHE UNITARIAN CHURCH OF MONTREALMontreal, QCARCHITEM designed and executed a newchurch for a congregation of 300 peoplefollowing a fire that destroyed the originalbuilding. The building is organized arounda private garden with the distinctivesanctuary volume located at the front,establishing a place of prominence onthe street. The church building containsa large public hall, administrative officesand teaching rooms. The sanctuary, amulti-purpose space with special acoustictreatment also serves as a concert hall.

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEMOLD BREWERY MISSION (OBM)Montreal, QCThe objective of the renovation was tocreate an environment which imparteda sense of dignity to the institution’shomeless population and speaks to thecore values of the institution.Through re-planning the spaces,maximizing the exposure to natural lightand the use of warm materials, we wereable to provide a relaxed environment forthe OBM’s clients in the Cafeteria and Caféas well as improving the efficiency in theKitchen.project cost : $2Mcompletion : 2017



INSTITUTIONALARCHITEMMONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS (MMFA)Montreal, QC ARCHITEM’s involvement in exhibition design at the MMFA dates from 2007. Working closely with the MMFA’s director, Nathalie Bondil and head of exhibition production, Sandra Gagné, for permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions, the design approach is inspired by the period of the exhibited art to help tell the story of its place in history. Theproject included modifications to themain entrance to provide accessibility,modifications to the building’s façadeincluding the introduction of newsignage and lighting to provide a unifiedappearance, the introduction of new, easilyoperable windows to fit into the existingopenings and the transformation of thegarage into studio space. The project wasexecuted in two phases.completion : 2005 - 2010

HILLEL HOUSEMontreal, QCThis turn-of-century mansion in downtownMontreal functions as a student centreand residence. The mandate includedan addition to include a secure mainentrance and the introduction of an exitstair, renovation and upgrades to thecommercial kitchen, residential rooms onthe top floor, meeting and administrativespaces and restoration work for themuseum-quality stained glass windowsand all of the exterior brickwork.Project Cost: 1.3MCompleted: 2005

INSTITUTIONALARCHITEMAMPITHÉÂTRE DE TROIS-RIVIÈRES -COMPETITION FINALIST AVENUE DES DRAVEURS (PRÉVUE) 1Ville Trois-Rivières, QC 3 4ARCHITEM was a finalist in this design 2 56competition in 2011. The concept, anICON in the landscape, this outdoor 8amphitheatre for 10,000 people, invites RUE DES URSULINESyear-round activity on a new riverside park.A city square deconstructs on the riversideas a landscaped roof for the amphitheatre.The 3-dimensional façade, Modulationorchestrée creates a kinetic illusion thatchanges as we move along its face. 7completion : 2011

Housed in aprominently located university buildingconstructed in 1890, the concept maintainsthe architectural integrity of the house,while introducing modifications to providean inviting, accessible centre that opensto the exterior with integrated landscapeelements and views to the river andcampus.In progress - 2018

MONTREAL HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL CENTREMontreal, QCThe Feasibility Study for a new extension tothe Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centrefocussed on increasing the centre’s publicpresence on the street and reorganizing itsexhibition and administrative space over3 floors. Inserted between two existingbuildings, the museum’s new galleryvolume is composed of transparent andsolidelements,creatingamasssurroundedby natural light, to evoke a sense of historyand hope.construction cost: $ 3 Mproject area: 1900 sq. m.completion: 2013

COMMERCIAL ARCHITEMBROWNS HEAD OFFICE& NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTRESaint-Laurent, QCAwarded LEED Silver Certification, theinnovative architecture for this newbuilding has become an identifiableimage for a corporation committed todesign excellence and the wellbeingof its team. The building’s designincorporates an existing silver maplegrove within its architectural expressionand planning. Composed of two distinctvolumes, the large warehouse at therear with its dark solid panels providesa backdrop to the ephemeral glazedadministration volume.Selected as a finalist for the OAQ Prixd’excellence, this project was awardedthe Real Estate Award of Excellence in2015 by the IDU.

By adding an additional floor to the building, we created distinctive 2-storey penthouse units featuring terraces that framed views of the City. completion : 2010
