Mathematics Exercise: Q. State which of the following sets are null sets and which are singleton sets. i) W=Set of the vowels in the word 'book'. ii) P={x:x is a prime number less than 2} Day-26 Activity:26 (Set) Equal set: Example:E= {FILE} F= {LIFE} Here, n(E) = 4 and n (F) = 4 Also, the sets E and F have same elements. So they are called equal sets. Exercise: Q. List the elements of the given sets. Are they equal? A = {2, 3, 5, 7, 11}, B = {Prime number less than 12} Day - 27 Activity:27 (Set) Equivalent set: The sets are said to be equivalent if they contain the same number of elements. Example: A = {1, 2, 3, 4} B = {a, b, c, d} Here, n(A) = 4 and n(B = 4) contain same number of elements So, set A and B are equivalent sets. Exercise: Q. A = {letters of the word 'LOVE'} and B = {0, 1, 2, 3} Are they equivalent? Day -28 Activity:28 (Set) Overlapping sets wo sets are called overlapping if they have at least one element in common. Examples: A = {a, e, i, o, u} B = {u, v, w, x} A a v e ou x i w Common element is 'u' . So, it is overlapping set. --51--

Disjoint set: P Class-6 Two sets are called disjoint sets if they 1 Q have no element is common. 56 78 Example: P = {1, 2, 3, 4} 2 Q = {5, 6, 7, 8} 3 4 Since there is no element in common, so it is disjoint set. Exercise: Q. If A = {a, b, c, d, e} and B = {d, e, f, g, h} then examine the relation overlapping or disjoint with diagram. Day - 29 Activity: 29 (Set)  Listing the elements from figure. Exercise: Q Q. From the adjoing figure. 6 a) List the elements in set P. 8 b) List the elements in set Q. 6 c) List the elements belongs to both sets P and Q. P 2 3 14 5 Day - 30 Activity:30 (Set)  Identifying disjoint or overlapping  Also See Activity 28. Exercise: Q. Determine which pairs are disjoint sets or overlapping sets. a) A = {x:x is even and 6 <x < 18} and B = {x:x is even and prime} b) C = {1, 3, 5, 7} and D = {2, 3, 4, 5} Day - 31 Activity:31 (Algebraic expression)  Constant and variable: Any letter or symbol having a fixed value or a single value is known as 'constant'. And the one having more than one value is known as a 'variable'. --52--

Mathematics Exercise: Q. Find whether the following Mathematical sentences are constant or the variable. a) 'a' represent the number of districts in Nepal. b) The value of 'b' is 3 or 4. Day - 32 Activity:32 (Algebraic expression) Algebraic term eg: a, 2, 3x, 2xy,a+b, x2 etc. are the example of algebraic terms. Exercise: Q. Express the following algebraically. a) The sum of a and b. b) 1 is added to the product of x and y. Day - 33 Activity:33(Algebraic expression)  Some Algebraic Expression are: i) Monomial ii) Binominal iii) Trinominal iv) Polynomial  Follow pg. - 216(b) Algebraic expression. Exercise: Q. Identify the types of algebraic expression given below: b) 6x2 a) 5 c) 3a - 2b d) x + y – Day - 34 Activity :34(Algebraic expression)  Co – efficient, base and power of Algebraic term. Example:8x2 Here, Coefficient = 8 Base = x and Power (index) = 2 Exercise: Q. Write down the base, co - efficient and power of the following. a) 2y5 b) - 3a --53--

Class-6 Day - 35 Activity: 35(Algebraic expression)  Value of algebraic expression Note: a×a is written as a2. and a×a×a is written as a3. Exercise: Q. Find the value of the following: a) x + 5 if x = 6. b) 7a + 3b if a = 2 and b = 1 Day - 36 Activity:36(Algebraic expression) Example: 15 +30 Find the value of the expression 8 if a = 4 and b = 2 Solution: Here, 15 +30 8 = = 15×4+30×2 = 8 = 60+60 8 120 8 15 Exercise: 12 +16 Q. Find the value of expression 8 if x = 2 and y = 3. Day - 37 Activity:37(Algebraic expression)  Find the value of expression of three terms.  Also see Activity 36 Exercise: Q. If p = 1, q = 2 and r = -1, then ( − − )3 Calculate the value of the expression. (+−)3 Day – 38 Activity:38(Algebraic expression)  Calculating the value of expression from line segment. Exercise: Q. If x= 3cm, then find the total length of the following segments. Example: a) A x B--54-- 4x C

Mathematics Here, Total length = AB + BC 4x C 3x D = x + 4x = 5x = 5× 3cm = 15cm. Thus, total length = 15cm b) A 3x B Day – 39 Activity:39(Algebraic expression) Like term:  The algebraic terms having same base and equal power are called like terms. eg: i) 2x, 4x, - 3x etc. are like term. ii) 3a2, 10a2, -2a2, etc. are like term. Unlike term:  The algebraic terms which are not like terms are called unlike terms. eg: i) 2a, 5x, 2b etc. are unlike term. ii) 3a2, 5x2, y2 etc. are unlike term. Exercise: Q. Identify the like and Unlike term with reason. a) 8x and 10x b) 6a and 6b d) 2a and 2b2 c) 2xy and 3xy Day – 40 Activity:40(Algebraic expression)  Identifying coefficient  Also see Activity - 34 Exercise: Q. Example: Subtract 51 - 4b from 7a + 8b Solution: Here, = (7a + 8b) - (5a - 4b) = 7a + 8b - 5a + 4b = 7a - 5a + 8b + 4b (Collecting the like terms) = 2a + 12b Exercise: Q. Subtract: a) 10x + 13y from 19x - 5y b) 6a + 15 from 14a + 6 Day - 45 Activity:45(Algebraic expression)  Subtraction Trinomial from trinomial.  See pg. 222 Example: 8 Exercise: 3ab + 5cd - 4ac from 3ab + 6cd - 3ac Q. Subtract : Day – 46 Activity:46(Algebraic expression)  Simplification of algebraic expression. Example: Simplify: 5(2x + y) + 3(y - 3x) Solution: Here, 5 (2x + y) + 3(y - 3x) = 5 × 2x + 5 × y + 3 × y - 3 × 3 = 10x + 5y + 3y - 9x = 10x - 9x + 5y + 3y (Collecting like terms) = x + 8y --56--
