About the Trainers Dr Kerk Wai Tat is a Senior Research Engineer with A*STAR Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, SIMTech. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a PhD in Chemistry. Dr Kerk is one of the pioneers in developing a roll-to-roll pilot line system at SIMTech. His expertise includes large area thin-film manufacturing of transparent conductors and flexible electroluminescent printed lightings. He works actively on translational research with universities and industrial partners for new product and technology developments. Dr Shan Xuechuan is a Senior Research Scientist and Section Manager, Printed Intelligent Device, at SIMTech. He obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Mechatronics & Precision Engineering from Tohoku University Japan. He has vast experiences in leading various research projects with prestigious R&D organisations and Collaborative Industry Projects (CIPs). His research interests include the design and fabrication of microsystems, printed electronic devices and roll-to-roll manufacturing systems and processes for flexible hybrid electronics. Dr Qi Xiaoying is a Research Scientist with SIMTech. She received her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She has more than 10 years of R&D experience in low dimensional materials/composite synthesis,inkformulation,thin-filmfabrication,devicestructuraldesignandflexibleelectronics fabrication. Dr Budiman Salam received his B.Eng degree from the Institut Sains dan Teknologi Nasional (ISTN), Indonesia, his M.Sc from the University of Salford, Uk, and his PhD from the University of Greenwich, UK, between 1996 to 2006. He is currently a Senior Research Engineer for the Printed Intelligent Device team at SIMTech. Course Outline Skills Course Reference Number: TGS-2021003445 (40 training hours) Printed electronics is expected to facilitate widespread flexible and lower cost electronics with new For developing typically printed electronics, sheet-based printing and large-area processing are two opportunities. The value proposition for large-area processing in manufacturing printed electronics and essential skill sets for flexible functional printing, plus device design and characterisation. Application of functional films is creating rapid growing markets worldwide in many areas such as smart & interactive printed electronics such as printed lighting, printed heater, printed electrode and various printed sensors packaging, outdoor media & advertisement, biomedical, wearable electronics, automotive, building, will be covered in the training sessions. Fabrication of functional films is covered at the start of the course architectural and construction industries. Flexible hybrid electronics is an innovative process that combines to build up the participants’ fundamental printing knowledge. Large-area printing and roll-to-roll process the flexibility, thinness, and lightweight nature of large-area printed electronics with the processing power of will be demonstrated to produce functional films. As flexible hybrid electronics is an innovative process semiconductors for new application in wearables, healthcare and consumer electronics. Specific knowledge, that combines elements of the electronics industry with that of the high-precision printing industry, skills and know-how are required to cope with the implementation of large-area processing to capture participants get to learn about roll-to-roll processing of hybrid printed electronics. All participants have opportunities with these emerging applications. the opportunity to participate in fabricating a flexible printed electronic prototype based on the selected application. The participants are required to plan all the steps from material selection, printing equipment About this Programme set-up, doing actual printing, characterisation of functional films, packing and testing with necessary guidance from their mentors. They will print and complete the selected prototype in a cleanroom. Through Flexible hybrid electronics is an emerging manufacturing process. It needs a specific set of knowledge and SIMTech’s Learn-Practise-Implement (LPI) pedagogy, which is essentially different from conventional skills regarding the printed electronics fundamentals, printing process and application design that are not classroom teaching, participants will gain and master the knowledge and skills of large-area processing of covered in any existing relevant training courses. This course aims to bridge these gaps. flexible printed electronics in an integrated manner. Participants will learn the concepts and applications of printed electronics technology and understand the Upon Completion of this Programme working principles of various flexible functional films. With the guidance of industry experts in large-area process and printed electronics, participants get the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in functional Participants will be awarded with a certificate of attendance by SIMTech. film fabrication and applications, in particular for printed lighting, printed heater, printed electrode and various printed sensors, and understand the specific requirements to the flexible functional printed Course Fee and Funding electronic application. • The nett course fee for all Singaporeans and SPRs aged 21 years old and above is S$1,200 (before GST).
