8 EVENTS IN 1H 2022 A*STAR Advanced Manufacturing Startup Challenge – Pitch Day The A*STAR Advanced Manufacturing Startup Challenge – Pitch Day came to a successful closure in March 2022. The challenge originated with the need to solve 3 industrial problem statements proposed by our members (P&G, Kennametal, MiRXES, and OmniMold) to tackle challenging issues in advanced manufacturing industries. At the same time, the intention was also to enable startups to develop their own capabilities in disruptive technologies in advanced manufacturing. 12 startups were selected from the many submitted proposals to present and 6 semi-finalists were finally shortlisted to proceed to the next stage of the challenge – A 4-month Accelerator Program from May 2022 to Aug 2022. The 6 semi-finalists are: We look forward to journeying with these semifinalists over the next 4 months where they will receive mentorship and guidance from ARTC professionals and industry members to develop proofs-of-concept to showcase them at the upcoming Bi-Annual Technical meeting in October 2022.

EVENTS IN 1H 2022 9 Reimagine Manufacturing with 5G On the 25 May 2022, ARTC jointly organised the “Reimagine Manufacturing with 5G” event with our partners, Singtel and Ericsson. We had the honor of hearing from senior leaders from Singtel, Ericsson, and ARTC to share insights on how the partnership between the three will be able to support industry players and our partners to drive further collaborations within the manufacturing sector. 12 ARTC 10th Anniversary Celebration ARTC Turns 10! 2022 marks ARTC’s 10th Anniversary. Established in 2012 as a research institute under A*STAR, ARTC provides a collaborative platform for like-minded industry partners to collaborate and co- develop R&D solutions across the value chain. ARTC 10th Anniversary Celebration 13 Capsule Ceremony on 31 May 2022 31 May 2022 marks a special moment for ARTC as we celebrate our 10th Birthday. On this special day, a capsule ceremony was prepared where Dr David Low, CEO of ARTC, placed some of our old awards, brochures, and company-customised shirts into the capsule which will be opened again to reminisce 10 years later on 31 May 2032.

14 Land Transport Pillar Realising the future of mobility today Imagine a future where our roads are free of congestion and pollution from vehicles, where transport networks will become more inclusive for the community while operating in a safer, healthier, and liveable environment with clean energy fleets, more covered link-ways, new technology for safety. Innovation and technology will play a significant role in realising these goals and providing safe and seamless connectivity and services for commuters and road users. The Land Transport Pillar is formulated as a platform to collaborate with public agencies such as Land Transport Authority (LTA), our anchor member, in realising the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 in Singapore. In addition, with the alliance of Hyundai as our anchor member, the platform also boosts collaboration by bringing together various players of the advanced manufacturing ecosystem to develop capabilities in areas of electric vehicle transition to drive the future of mobility. The pillar will focus on 3 key themes: Advanced Emerging Solutions Intelligent Operations Manufacturing for for the Future of and Maintenance Mobility of Transportation the Automotive Systems Industry Transport Engineering Research Arena (TERA) As a collaborative space in the ARTC premises, the TERA serves as a platform for land transport pillar members to engage in R&D activities for the advancement of technologies related to autonomous inspection, robotics automation, and training in land transport. Currently, Hyundai is utilising this space to train and develop their future workforce in the production of Electric Vehicles in preparation for Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Singapore’s (HMGICs) grand opening in 2022.

16 Fast Moving Consumer Goods & E-Commerce Pillar Riding the wave of FMCG and e-commerce acceleration Empty supermarket shelves - In no other industry is the effect of the supply chain disruptions due to COVID-19 laid bare quite like the FMCG industry. The disruptions have made headlines in national media, trended hashtags, and caused many frustrations in consumers. The pandemic has created significant volatility in the supply chain because of large changes in supply and demand. On top of this epidemic, the growth in internet- savvy users and increased urbanisation led the FMCG industry into a new era driven by automation and digitalisation. The FMCG and E-commerce pillar is the platform for industry members to collaborate and co-develop solutions to facilitate digital transformation in supply chain - from manufacturing, inventory, and warehouse management to customer-facing entities. Drawing on digital and robotic automation technologies and programmes from Model Factory and Next Generation Hyper-Personalisation Line (NGHPL), research activities will concentrate on test-bedding manufacturing processes and implementing future- proof production operations that will create a more resilient and agile manufacturing shop floor.

During the visit, the steering committee had a tour around the ARTC facilities, showcasing capabilities in areas of robotics and automation, inspection, digitalisation, supply chain and sustainability. It was collectively agreed among members of the pillar to organise subsequent focus group discussions to identify common technology topics in R&D and enable cross- learning opportunities.

18 Aerospace Pillar Pioneering Advanced Manufacturing for Aerospace Manufacturing for the aerospace industry is a challenge - with parts that are extraordinarily complex and the stringent requirements to be structurally sound and to meet the highest quality assurance standards of almost any industry. Starting as one of the core research realms of ARTC, the aerospace pillar aims to provide an end-to-end manufacturing solution from design development to delivery by embracing advanced manufacturing processes through industry 4.0 processes, digital manufacturing, smart manufacturing, and additive manufacturing to overcome many traditional manufacturing challenges. The pillar will focus on 2 areas: Advancing maintenance, Net Zero repair, and overhaul Manufacturing for by capitalising on Aerospace advanced manufacturing technologies

Aerospace Pillar 19 Aerospace Steering Committee Meeting On 31 May 2022, members of the Aerospace Steering Committee attended an online workshop to officially reconstitute the Aerospace pillar in ARTC. Representatives from Rolls-Royce, IHI, Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited, and Barnes Aerospace participated in this workshop. The meeting covered the new framework of ARTC under Membership 2.0 to discuss and formalise specific innovation opportunities related to the Aerospace industry. The technology strategy and focus areas were also shared with participating members to align and enhance collaboration within the membership ecosystem.

2200 Energy & Infrastructure Pillar Creating a clean and sustainable energy future As the world progress towards a net-zero manufacturing future, sustainability is no longer a nice to have, but a business imperative. A transition of energy, material, and infrastructure is needed in the next two decades to keep global temperature increases below 1.5 degrees while ensuring the energy future is affordable, secure, and inclusive. We desperately need a sustainable energy future, and this signifies the need to take on advanced technology required to help improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewables in the existing infrastructure. The Energy Pillar aims to create a robust ecosystem that unites industry members in the consortium that operates within the energy value chain or provides valuable services to these companies to create sustainable energy laying the foundation for a resilient and low-emission society through advanced manufacturing. The pillar seeks in-depth and focused conversations with members to gain insights into their business challenges and integrate innovation into advanced manufacturing technology to

The meeting hosted by Mr Tan Ker Kuan, Energy & Infrastructure Director of ARTC, commenced with the introduction of the team members behind the pillar and sharing of how the pillar shapes the Membership 2.0 process. Members of the Steering Committee can utilise the pillar as a venue to discuss and identify common innovation opportunities. The meeting concluded with a networking session and a survey to collect topics of interest and problem statements.
