LEAN is an operational philosophy and systematic approach that strives to continuously improve productivity by focusing on what is important to the customer, through elimination or reduction of non-value-added activities. This helps to reduce cost and helps organisations to be more efficient and competitive. It is also an important foundation for Industry 4.0, as streamlined operations and optimising processes ensure only value-added activities are digitised or automated. LEAN can be applied to all corners of an enterprise by each employee and for all industries. It helps to build continuous improvement culture and to break down silos within the organisation. It can also allow coordinated efforts by the management to drive improvements to help in meeting the overall organisational objectives. About this Programme The objective of this programme is to understand and learn how to apply LEAN and Industry 4.0 tools and techniques via immersive learning at A*STAR Model Factory. This programme consists of 2 full-day sessions covering practical methods for identifying wastes (non-value-added activities), performing root-cause analyses, and applying LEAN and Industry 4.0 tools & techniques. Upon successful completion of this programme, participants will become LEAN leaders, who will commence on their own LEAN journeys to train colleagues and support LEAN and culture within their organisations towards achieving continuous process and productivity improvement. Who Should Attend This programme is relevant for business owners, management, executives, engineers and professionals who are in the areas of, supply chain management, planning, purchasing and sourcing, administration, manufacturing, etc. It is applicable for organisations with the intentions to: • Bring awareness of LEAN concepts and developing LEAN as a foundation for Industry 4.0 to industries • Equip participants with basic Lean knowledge to eliminate or reduce non-value-added activities • Apply LEAN or Industry 4.0 tools to realise improvement Moreover, it applies to individuals and staff who are seeking capability improvement in terms of problem-solving, and process innovation towards a LEAN transformation.

Course Outline Skills Course Reference Number: To be confirmed (16 training hours) The programme employs the Learn-Practise-Implement™ (LPI) pedagogy, where fundamental knowledge and principles taught will be reinforced through hands-on practise and case studies discussions, as well as during the implementation process using real business scenario and data. Introduction to Wastes LEAN and Principles Identification LEAN Exercises LEAN Tools and Industry 4.0 Tools at A*STAR Model Factory By including immersive learning at A*STAR Model Factory production environment, the participants have the opportunities to apply LEAN and Industry 4.0 tools and techniques in an actual smart production environment. Upon Completion of this Programme Participants will be awarded with a certificate of attendance by ARTC. Course Fee and Funding • The nett course fee for all Singaporeans and SPRs aged 21 years old and above is S$300 (before GST). • Employees fully sponsored by SMEs can claim an additional 20% of the full course fee with the Enhanced Training Support for SMEs Funding scheme (ETSS), subject to approval by SSG. • Singaporeans aged 40 years and above can claim an additional 20% of the full course fee with the Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES). • Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset course fees (for self-sponsored registrations only). • The full course fee before funding is S$1,000 (before GST). About the Trainers Mr Joseph Ng is a Senior Consultant with A*STAR SIMTech with more than 25 years of experience in management systems in wide-ranging industries. He has held a wide-ranging of roles with companies including management roles with SGS in Asia and has implemented LEAN concepts for organisations such as Chevron Australia. Mr Ng provides consultancy, training and auditing for over 500 companies in more than 10 countries such as Singapore, China and Australia. He has conducted more than 30 batches of LEAN courses with SIMTech for participants from various industry sectors. industries of various sectors. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Strathclyde, UK and a Master of Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a Master of Science from the National University of Singapore. Mr Toh Ming Hon is a Senior Consultant with A*STAR SIMTech. He has mentored several companies for SIMTech’s Operations Management Innovation (OMNI) Programme & Digital Transformation & Innovation™ (DTI™) Programme. He has trained participants to be Productivity Champions, helped them to learn how to develop productivity initiatives & guided them to follow up on implementation through the productivity execution method. Before that, Mr Toh successfully led a multinational corporation in Singapore towards its Productivity Transformation, leading to over 10,000 productivity improvements implemented annually. Mr Toh holds an Honours Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore and also a Master of Business Administration from the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Business School. Dr Roland Lim is a Principal Research Engineer with A*STAR SIMTech and has strong expertise in operations management, manufacturing and supply chain strategy, and LEAN management for productivity planning & implementation. His industry experience has enabled him to gain extensive knowledge of the best practises and solutions to tackle various business challenges.
