Carpal Tunnel WristSyndrome, which used to be associated with the trauma or accidental injuries, is now becoming a prevalent workplace related disorder. To prevent this, arrange your keyboard in such a way that you can type while keeping the back of your palm flat. SPECIAL | Raipur Lifestyle Magazine WORDS: ANKIT PATIDAR YOU SHOULD PHOTOGRAPHS: INTERNET COMPLETELY AVOID FAT FOR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE Fact: Fats or lipids are essential structural components of our cells hence a healthy diet must contain certain amount of fats. Guidelines suggest that in a balanced diet plan, 20 to 35 percent of total calories should come from fats. What’s more important here is the type of fat you are consuming. While unsaturated fats found in nuts, fish, sunflower oil, olive oil and peanut oil are good for your health, unsaturated fats found in butter, coconut oil, cheese, chicken and pork may increase the level of LDL cholesterol. HEALTH AT LEAST 1 HOUR OF WORK OUT RELATED DAILY IS NECESSARY MYTHS Fact: Unless you are an athlete, daily work out is neither necessary nor THAT YOU recommended. Having a day off per week from your exercise regime gives your muscles time to relax and repair the damage. Experts suggest 150 BELIEVE minutes per week of moderate intensity aerobic exercise (or 75 minutes per TO week of vigorous aerobic exercise) along with strength training on at least BE 2 days every week is enough to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. 14 TRUE CITRUS FRUITS WILL GET YOU COLD Fact: The common cold is not caused by cold winds or anything we eat but by a group of viruses. Eating citrus fruits like orange and lemon won’t cause runny nose or cough. They can even help you to fight the cold and get better quickly because they are loaded with immunity boosting Vitamin C. So just savor these tasty fruits without any worry whenever you have cold. Just make sure that they are properly ripe because the extreme sourness of unripe citrus fruits may cause mild irritation in your throat. CHOLESTEROL IS ALL BAD Fact: While Cholesterol in general gets a bad reputation, it is essential for a healthy body. Without Cholesterol, our body cannot generate new cells. Actually, there are two types of Cholesterols, LDL which is the bad kind and HDL which is the good kind. So, it is important to lower the levels of LDL in blood and maintain optimum level of HDL. Avoid food items that contain high amount of saturated fats like Red meat and full fat dairy products. Eat food items that contain high amount of Unsaturated fats and Omega 3 fatty acids like fish, walnuts and flax seeds.

SPECIAL | Raipur Lifestyle Magazine CRACKING JOINTS CAUSES ARTHRITIS Fact: People usually believe cracking joints causes the bones to rub together and may lead to arthritis later. But the cracking sound comes from popping a gas bubble that naturally forms during the regular movement of joint. If you feel pain when you crack your joints, then you should see a doctor. Otherwise, this habit is only annoying to the others, at the most. EATING TOO MUCH SUGAR CAUSES DIABETES Fact: This is an age-old myth which probably came from the fact that Diabetics are often advised to avoid sugar in their diet. But it does not mean that high sugar content in your diet can lead to diabetes. Diabetes is caused when the insulin producing cells in our pancreas are not producing enough insulin. However, it also doesn’t mean that you can binge on those sweets because having too much sugar may not cause diabetes, but it can make you over-weight which in turn can lead to numerous other diseases. YOU SHOULD COMPLETELY AVOID FAT FOR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE Fact: Fats or lipids are essential structural components of our cells hence a healthy diet must contain certain amount of fats. WEIGHT TRAINING WILL MAKE YOU BULKY AND MANLY Fact: This is a myth that often worries women and keeps them from hitting those dumbbells. Women do not naturally produce as much testosterone as men do. So, it is not possible for them to gain huge amount of muscle mass just by normal weight training. Those female body builders and weightlifters get that muscular body through an intense and lengthy workout program. So, don’t worry and lift some weight next time you go to gym to get a toned and fit body. YOU MUST DRINK AT LEAST 8 GLASSES OF WATER A DAY Fact: Although drinking 8-10 glasses of water won’t harm you in any way, it is not necessarily a scientifically established guideline. Our body can get hydration from many sources apart from drinking water, like fruits and vegetables we eat. Also, the daily requirement of water varies from person to person depending upon many factors like his body type, activity level and the environment he is in. So how much water should you drink in a day? Just go with your body’s demand and drink as much and as often you feel thirsty. YOU CAN SPOT REDUCE THE FAT IN YOUR BODY Fact: If something sounds too good to be true, most likely it isn’t. Spot reduction is the idea that you can burn the fat from one part of body without affecting other parts which is biologically impossible. While you can potentially develop the muscles of a specific part of body through exercise, it is not the same in case of Fat because when you train yourself to burn the fat, it gets burned from whole body. There might be some areas where the results appear faster and some areas which might be more stubborn, but you don’t get to decide which. 15

A small PHOTOGRAPHS: INTERNET amount of stress is perfectly normal. It can even be beneficial; motivating you to perform better. However, excessive and prolonged stress due to continuous struggles can push you beyond your ability to cope with it. A person can experience stress due to many reasons like financial issues, a loved one's illness, retirement or an emotionally devastating event, such as death of a spouse or being fired from work. However, much of our stress comes from less dramatic, everyday responsibilities. Prolonged stress can affect not only mental health but physical health as well. In response to stressors our body automatically increases blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, metabolism, and blood flow to our muscles. It can result in increased risk of brain stroke, heart attack, peptic ulcers, and mental illnesses such as depression. As commonly observed, recurrent stress makes you more and more vulnerable to subsequent stressor. 18
