Newcity's annual summer issue is a little different this year. Where summer has historically been a time of abundance and celebration in Chicago, COVID-19 and political unrest have dovetailed to create a cultural vacuum. We hope to fill the void with a selection of summer-themed offerings: reminiscents, memories, odes and more, all in search of one thing: hope for a better future, one that sees the return of our city's finest season. Also in this issue: attending festivals from home, the current state of the arts under pandemic, chefs share their summer favorites, and more.
