“PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS THENUMBER ONE PREDICTOR OFEARLY LITERARY SUCCESS.” PARENT ORIENTATION 2018—2019

PARENT ORIENTATION SESSION 2018-19The parent orientation program for theacademic year 2018-19 was conducted onApril 7th from 10am-1.00pm.The firstsession was for Grades 1- 4 parents and thesecond session was for Grades 5 to 10 par-ents.We focused on the general rules andregulations, the mode of assessment,Co-curricular policy, OSH policy, SENpolicy, General Decorum, MEP, MIP andParents’ role in student development. Thesession started with the prayer song whichwas recited by our music teacherMr. Sethunath.The School Academic CoordinatorMs.Smitha Vimal welcomed all parents andhanded over to the corresponding SectionSupervisors to carry over the session. TheSection Supervisors Ms. Gayathry Nandananand Ms.Raghi Preyash detailed about thegeneral decorum of the school, the mode ofassessment, MEP and MIP to grades 1-4

The Section Supervisors Mr.SureshKumar Devan, Ms. Priyanka Haridas andMr.Hari Surendra Babu did the programmefor grades 5-10 parents. Mr. Sethunath, theSchool Activity Coordinator detailed aboutthe Co-curricular policy. A session by OSH officer, Mr.VinodPushpakaran was conducted for parents tounderstand the OSH policy. SENCoordinator cum Child Protection officerMs.Sini.S.Nair conducted a session forparents to know about SEN and ChildProtection policy. The School PrincipalDr.Bhavna Gupta concluded the session byexplaining the role of parents in studentdevelopment. At the end of the session, parentsinteracted with the class teachers and wereallowed to ask any queries about theinformation provided by the school andwere asked to give their feedbacks in thefeedback register.





FIRST DAY @ ASISWelcome Assembly

Welcome Assembly The new Academic Year2018 – 19 commenced on 8th April, 2018. Allthe school members were excited to wel-come the New Year with new hopes andvibes. We at Al Saad Indian School, AlAin started the new Academic Year2018 – 19 with an exciting Welcome assem-bly by the teachers in the School A/C audi-torium. The assembly began with theUAE National Anthem. The whole school wasproud to sing the Anthem along with theteachers. Mr. Sethunath and Ms. Smitharendered the Prayer song, which was fol-lowed by the holy verses from Quran by Ms.Anam. Ms. Niveditha delivered the Bha-vans’ Pledge which was followed by a small

The presentation was about teninteresting facts on UAE. The interestingpart of the presentation came when Ms.Priyanka Haridas did the attentivenesscheck with the students. Students were ableto recollect 4 – 5 points read out about UAE. The idea and the main aim behindthis presentation was to encourage thestudents to learn and respect the culture ofthe UAE and also to get more awarenessabout the country in which they live in. Ms. Ruchi and Mr. Hari updated thestudents with the happenings around theworld. Ms. Anam introduced an Arabic wordand Ms. Beena introduced an English wordof the day. The Assembly ended with a shorttalk by the Principal, Dr. Bhavna Gupta.



ORIENTATION ON CHILD PROTECTION POLICY AND BEHAVIOUR POLICY Child Protection Policy andBehaviour Policy orientation session forgrades 1 to 10 was conducted by SENCOCum Child Protection Officer Ms.Sini.S.Nair,on 08/04/2018 at the School Auditorium.The first session was for grades 1 to 4 from10.30 am to 12 pm and the second sessionwas from 12 pm to 12.50 pm for grades 5 to10. The session started with ashort pranayama session and was carriedout with a short discussion about abusesand types of abuses, bullying and neglect.The children got an idea about safe touchand unsafe touch. It was an interactivesession and students actively participatedand raised their queries and cleared theirdoubts. Ms.Sini introduced theBehaviour policy of our school and detailedabout acceptable behaviour andunacceptable behaviour.

Aim of the behaviour policy is toprovide a positive and happy learningenvironment, to provide an emotionally andphysically safe environment, to help stu-dents to reach their full potential, ensuringthat rules are applied consistently, fairly,consequentially and reviewed regularly. It also encourages students toaccept responsibility for their ownbehaviour and the consequences. It enablesteachers to teach in a purposeful andnon-disruptive environment and establishprocedures so that conflicts can be resolvedin a positive, non-violent manner. Ms.Sini explained that the mosteffective way of achieving our aims is topraise and encourage positive behaviour,such behaviour will be praised in class, bothverbally and by receiving tangible rewardslike stickers, giving the position of class



ANTI-BULLYING POLICY School Anti bullying policyinduction and orientation session for grades1 to 10 was conducted by Anti bullyingOfficer Ms. Bijila Vinod on 08-04-2018 atthe school auditorium. The first session was for grades 1to 4 from 10 am to 10.30am and the secondsession was for grades 5 to 9 from 12.30 pmto 1 pm. Anti-bullying policy induction andorientation session started with the generalinformation about School Anti-bullying poli-cy. Anti-bullying officer Ms. Bijila Vinodexplained how to stop bullying and the waysof improving our safety and health in ourschool and explained the different types ofBullying in the most effective way.

The ABO informed the studentsthat if found engaged in any such acts ofbullying it should be informed to theconcerned authorities or a faculty memberimmediately. The ABO also explained thefollowing four STAR steps in Anti – Bullyingpolicy.1. Stick together.2. Tell the bully to stop.3. Alert an adult at home or school.4. Respect others and treat them the wayyou want to be treated.

ORIENTATION ON SCHOOL OSH POLICY 2018-2019 School OSH policy orientationsession for grades 1 to 10 was conducted byOSH Officer Mr.Vinod on 08-04-2018 at theschool auditorium. The first session was forgrades 1 to 4 from10.30 to 12pm and thesecond session was for grades 5 to 10 from12pm to 1 pm. OSH induction started withthe information about School OSH policyincluding relevant people, procedures,equipments and facilities. OSH OfficerMr.Vinod explained regarding the ways ofimproving our safety and health. He explained the followingtopics in the most effective way:1. First Aid procedures and location of firstaid kits2. Fire & Emergency procedures3. Hazards and risks4. Hazardous Substances and the conse-quences.



SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON 100 YEARS OF SHEIKH ZAYEDThe first formal assembly of Al Saad IndianSchool for the new academic year 2018-19was conducted by the students of Grade X.The first assembly was dedicated to HisHighness Sheikh Zayed, since this year2018 is celebrated as ‘100 years of Zayed’.The assembly had started with the UAENational Anthem which was followed by theuniversal prayer song sung by the schoolchoir and grade ten students.Verses from Holy Quran were recited byFidha Anwar (XA) and Bhavans’ pledge byVarghese Binu.Boys of grade X did a presentation based on100 years of Sheikh Zayed.

International news, Indian News, UAE newsand sports news were read out by Abhinavand Michael.Bhavan’s news was read by Malavika (XA).Students’ attentiveness check was carriedout by Joel George. He asked a question tostudents based on the presentation.Students responded positively for his ques-tion.Arabic word of the day was delivered byRidha Ibrahim followed by the English wordof the day by Jobin Jose.The assembly was anchored by Parthivvarma and Jaswanth Kumaar.Assembly was completed on time and thenthe students were dispersed to theirrespective classes.MIP officials from ADEK also witnessed the



ELECTION REPORT 2018-19 The School Council election forthe academic year 2018-19 was conductedin the school premises on Thursday 12thApril 2018. Students from grades 8 to 10got the opportunity to contest in theelection and gr.3 upwards casted theirvotes. The following were the candidateswho contested for various posts. HEAD BOY1. In connection with the election,Department of Social Science organized a‘Meet the Candidate Programme’ for thecontestants. Voters got an opportunity to closelyunderstand the candidate, their personalqualities, aspirations, experiences etc.which helped them to take their selection. Ms. Suneetha, HOD, Social Sciencedepartment elaborated on the electionprocedures and the rules pertaining to theelection. The School Principal and the ChiefElection Officer Dr. Bhavna Gupta wishedthe candidates all success. This wasfollowed by the Election on the same day ina democratic way.

The School Elections prepare students for abigger role in their life. It helps them toenhance their leadership qualities, buildsconfidence, make them a better citizen andhelps them to face the challenges of life in abetter way.The purpose of the student council is togive students an opportunity to developleadership by organizing and carrying outschool activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contributeto school spirit and community welfare, thestudent council is the voice of the studentbody.Keeping these importance in mind we at AlSaad Indian School encourages the studentsevery year to file nominations and electionsare held to form the student council.This year the students filed the nominationsunder the supervision of our belovedPrincipal Dr. Bhavna Gupta. An electionboard was set up to enable the voters toknow the nominees better and to cast theirvotes wisely.

COLLAGE MAKINGA collage making competition was held on18th April, 2018 in connection with theWorld Heritage Day. Students were asked toprepare innovative and creative collage withthe materials provided. Students were all ea-ger to prepare the collage under the effec-tive guidance of the Art Sir, Mr. Mahesh.



SPECIAL ASSEMBLIESGrade 8A had conducted a special assemblydetailing the importance of Vishu and Bai-sakhi festivals through a Punjabi dance anda small skit on Vishu.

Grade 8B had conducted a special assemblyfor World Heritage Day displaying a PPT onHistorical Monuments. A small note on eachhistorical monument was also presented bythe children.

A special assembly was conducted by Gr.9 Aon 16th April ’18. Almost all the students ofthe class were given opportunity for partici-pating in various items in the assembly.There was a presentation on ‘Save ElephantCampaign’ connecting with the theme of themonth- ‘My History is My Identity’.

The school celebrated safety week fromApril 22nd—April 26th and special assem-blies were conducted to increase the aware-ness of the children.Students of grades 7, 6 and 5 performed thesafety week assemblies on the followingthemes:Grade 7 B — Classroom Safety

Grade 6 B — Road safety

Grade 5 A — School bus Safety

DENTAL CHECK UPEven though many of us might think thatour teeth is in good shape, regular visit tothe dentist is very important. Regularcare and prevention of diseases inthe mouth are the best possible care youcan give for your teeth.Tackling problems early on will save a lot ofbother in the long run – it might save yourteeth from an extraction or root canal thera-py.It is important to visit your dentist at leastonce, but ideally twice, a year to getyour teeth checked and cleaned.

On behalf of Health and Wellness Club, AlSAAD Indian School in association withMedeor Hospital conducted a free dentalcheck up for grades 1 to 4, on 24/04/2018at School Auditorium. The session was forgrades 1 to 4 from 9.30am to 1.00pm.The session started with a short session byDr.Niveditha about the importance ofdental care and dental hygiene from an ear-ly age to protect the teeth and preventing itfrom dental problems. The students got anidea about the significance of dental care.





INVESTITURE CEREMONYA leader is one who knows the way, goes theway, and shows the way.”The investiture ceremony is a prestigiousevent in every school in which the schoolformally entrusts responsibilities on theyoung leaders to discharge their dutieshonestly, sincerely and to the best of theirability.The investiture ceremony of Bhavan’s AlSaad Indian School for the academic year2018-19 was held on Wednesday, 25th ofApril. The programme started with the UAEnational anthem followed by the holy versesfrom the Quran by Anum Omair of grade 5A.The school council members were conferredupon with sashes and badges by thePrincipal Dr.Bhavna Gupta, Academic Coor-dinator Ms. Smitha Vimal and house mis-tresses of different houses. The leaders weresolemnized by the oath where they prom-ised to uphold and follow the principles ofthe school.

The school flag was transferred from theprevious head boy Parthiv Varma to the newHead Boy Thomas Jo Sheen was also donewith equal pomp. The Principal motivatedthe students to develop leadership qualitiesand keep the school flag flying high.
