Our mission By inculcating positive change, values and discipline in women and facilitating them to transform from within to become transcendental through perseverance, performance and progress. 2

THE LEGEND OF GODDESS SRI KANYAKA PARAMESWARI Penugonda was a flourishing city of 18 towns. It was ruled by Kusuma Chetty. Although blessed with wealth, position, health, knowledge and name he had no children. As mentioned in the scriptures, he decided to perform all kinds of rituals. His family priest Bhaskaracharya advised him to perform putrakameshtiyaga to beget a child. The activity lasting for seven days ended with the emergence of mother Parvathi from the fire pit. She blessed him with a kalpaka fruit to fulfill his longing for children. The children would be virtuous, famous and blessed with an inexhaustible spiritual treasure to guide mankind eternally. As ordained, beautiful twins named Virupaksha and Vasavi were born to Kusuma Chetty‟s wife Kausumbi. Vasavi was the personification of beauty and intelligence. She was born to teach, propagate and establish the power of chastity and excellence of womanhood. She was born to end carnality, ignominious lust and inaugurate a new epoch of magnificent womanhood and chastity. Vishnu Vardhan of Chalukya Dynasty was an emperor of indomitable valour and unquenchable thirst for power. Though he possessed enviable virtues, there were flaws. Abominable among them was his despicable lust. He had a roving eye for blooming beauties. After conquering many kingdoms in the north, he came down south to Penugonda. After a brief stay in Penugonda, Kusuma Chetty gave a farewell party to the king. It was then the king's eyes fell on Vasavamba. His look pierced with sensuality divested her of her maidenly honour and virginal purity. The king demanded the hand Of Vasavamba. The elders and Kusuma Chetty were annoyed. Many supported the king‟s wish due to fear. Out of 714 gothrikas, 102 were against the marriage and decided to jump into the fire pit along with Vasavamba. The 612 gothrikas were for the marriage but as it did not materialise they left the town fearing the attack of Vishnu Vardhan. When her parents were in turmoil, Vasavi showed her original goddess form to her parents. She stood in the beneficent form of Mother Parasakthi with four hands, holding lotus, veena, parrot and pasa. She added “… if any impious lustful eye falls upon a woman‟s pure virtuous body it loses all its power and strength … kamadarshini defiles woman's divine chastity, and leaves a scar on the spotless body\". She decided to cleanse her stained impure body by jumping into the sacred fire pit. Along with her elderly couples of 102 gothrikas also jumped into the fire pits chanting “Hail Vasavamba, long live Jaganmata” In the meantime Vishnu Vardhan marched into the city with an army to abduct Vasavamba by force and punish all. When he entered the place he saw Mother's shining resplendent form emerging from the fire pit. On seeing her form, his sinful head broke into innumerable pieces and from that rose an effulgent flame, which finally fell at the lotus feet of the Goddess. Goddess Vasavamba became chastity incarnate by self-immolation. She demonstrated to the whole world the potentialities of Srisakti. She proved to the whole world that chastity is the prime virtue of a Woman. If she had wanted she could have lived the life of a queen. Instead she valued high morals which raised her as the mighty goddess of not only the Vysyas but all Hindus. Her purity, chastity, courage, strength, steadfastness and care for community are to be well understood and cherished. Hail Vasavamba! Hail Sri Kanyaka Parameswari!!! 3

EDITORIAL 2020-2021 \"Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world\" Couldn't stop reflecting on W. B. Yeats in this situation. Lives were taken... People are jobless...Economy in doldrums...human spirits at its lowest ebb. We haven't learnt lesson from the first wave. Everything that was taken for granted; social gathering, walking hand in hand, picnics…all in a distant memory now. Life has come to a standstill and world is in a topsy-turvy. Masks and gloves are now part of attire, hand wash routines have become a new normal and alcohol has saved more lives than it has taken. The pandemic has taken its toll on the have-nots. Despite the whip of the disaster, it has taught and reinforced the forgotten values. The nature again proved that the quintessential of life is not the magnificent: car, bungalow, parties, but the small things like smile, hug, being there… It has opened a new perspective of life, to be a mere human being without any decorative horns. Man shouldn't forget that the worst calamities like flood, earthquake, tsunami and many others were overcome with love, with compassion and with camaraderie. Men shall satisfy his needs and keep aside his wants and move forward lifting up each other, not as a mere survivor but a winner of this pandemic. 5

CORRESPONDENT MESSAGE Dear Students, “You have to dream before your dreams can come true. A dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep. “Dream, dream, dream” – Abdul kalam. Students are the future of every country in the world. The progress of our Country depends on the contribution of the student. As a woman, you have a sense of Self-esteem that drives you to be successful in your family, career and society. You are God’s most wonderful creature. Pursue your dreams, show off your hidden talents and powerful abilities around the world and prove that you are the best in this Universe. This is the perfect moment to reveal to you that you are able to stand on your own legs. Prove to the whole universe that you are not dependent on anyone and that others can rely on you. I am a strong believer that success is always yours. Sri. Guggilam Ramesh Hony. Correspondent 6

PRINCIPAL MESSAGE Dear Students, “To be liberated, a woman must feel free to be herself, not in rivalry to man, but in the context of her own capacity and her personality” – Indira Gandhi. Education imparts confidence; force exposes hidden talents, and makes you believe in yourself. Women have more power than men, but their accomplishments are unrecognized in a patriarchal society. The new way is waiting for you, start your journey, break the barrier and get an opportunity to succeed. Education is a tool that allows you to succeed, to be free to choose your own choice, to instill knowledge. Have the superpower to empower the world, bring about change in society, and become a great personality in society. The motto of this institution is to enable young women to adopt ethical values. We will make a good human being and a better citizen of this country, and we will be proud of that across the world. With the strong conviction that the objective of real education is holistic development, the College provides value, ethic and trust for young women to achieve their goals by building the new society. THE DEPRIVED I have always been privileged. It's safe to say that, I have never felt any materialistic scarcity or deprived of anything that I physically wanted. I have always been the kind of person who never asks for anything except when needed right from my childhood. So, my folks got me everything that I did ask for which was rarely, and things that I didn't ask for as well. Yes, we are a pretty well-off family of five. In the beginning, we were in a joint family and it was fun. However, there was always something that I didn't feel from the beginning of my life; I've always felt kind of neglected and unhappy so to say. I've dealt with long-term depression and mental health has always been a kind of struggle for me. Whenever I speak to people about being unhappy, the one thing they ask me almost every time is \"Why are you unhappy when your parents get you everything you ask for?”. I have not only seen this with myself but also with many other people who are children of people who could afford more than just basic needs. You see many people fail to understand that not everyone is happy with just materialism. Money can buy everything but not happiness. I have always felt a lack of human connection with almost everyone in my life. Hence, I had all my depression and struggles which affected my mental health. But, being in a well-supported family does not mean that everything within the household is great. People can have a dysfunctional family, or an abusive relative or parent, or subjected to favoritism. Many factors contribute to a person's mental health whether they are rich or a pauper. We need to remember that mental health doesn't see age or wealth or person or gender or skin tone. Anyone can be having a miserable life regardless of how much they are being given or how much they earn. what we need more than money to sustain our well-being are, people who understand us, love us and are there when we need a shoulder to cry on, a pillar to lean on. Do not ever assume if someone is happy or not for what we see is not always the reality. There are always many hidden turmoil inside a person that we do not know. Many of us have secrets that we do not want to tell anyone except a few. Don't assume how well a person is doing just by their showy houses and expensive materials. Be there when someone needs you for the best kind of help that you can provide to anybody or anything is showing emotional support. FARHEEN FATHIMA III B.C.A 24

COVID – 19 VACCINATION The Government of India has approved the Covid-19 vaccines developed by Astra Zeneca and Bharat Biotech named Covishield and Covaxin respectively. Seeing this, our PM Mr. Narendra Modi has launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive on 16th January, 2021 which can save millions of lives every year. This is the world's largest vaccination program covering the entire country. During the launch of this drive a total of 3006 sites in all States and UTs have been virtually connected. Although India doesn’t need to vaccinate its entire population, it just has to vaccinate at least 30 to 40% of the people. It is estimated that a minimum of 1 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines will be required for full immunization. The vaccine has introduced in phrased manner. In first phrase, the vaccine is provided to healthcare workers like doctors, nurses and other medical staff both in government and private sectors. Because they treat that they are in close contact with those who are infected with Covid-19. Then it will be provided to police, armed forces, municipal workers and other departmental staffs. In third phase, people above 50 years of age and those patients who have diabetes, hypertension and organ transplant will get the vaccine. After that, the vaccine will be given to healthy adults, teenagers and children. The central government is incurring the cost for vaccinating the core healthcare and frontier workers. For further vaccination process, the government has also developed an application named COWIN, which will help provide real time information of vaccine stocks, storage and individualized tracking of beneficiaries for COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination for Covid-19 is voluntary in India. It is a safe and effective way of protecting people against this disease. Vaccines reduce risks of getting diseases by working with our body's immune system. MUSKKAAN I B.B.A 47 46
