Homecoming Topped With Victory Homecoming is a time that memories and dreams for the future materialize. There were many activities throughout the week that kept the spirit and tradition of Jordan High going strong. The sidewalks were decorat· ed with rainbows of color, but red and grey dominated. The alumni assembly had extra spark added this year by Marin Gogan and Brian Voiles. Farmers Market boomed with the hustle and bustle of people purchasing Jordan paraphanalia. The Pep Rally added an extra bit of psyche and encourage· ment to our Gold Dot Foot· ball team. At the night Pep Rally the glow of the burning \"J\" was seconded only by the Homecoming Royalty. Then a parade of spirit blazed the path to victory for our team. Finally, the big moment arrived. Former cheerleaders, student body officers, alumni and stu· dents witnessed a smashing victory as Jordan trampled the South High Cubs. The exciting week was capped off by the festivities at Homecoming. Royalty Queen. Marc1 McCaffree. First Attendant. D1ane Ohver Sec ond Attendant . Nancy Ayers Th1rd Attendant. Get Acquainted Ties Spirit Every Fall Jordan High students file into the bleach· ers to watch the traditional Get Acquainted Assembly which was one of the best assemblies of the year. The teams were selected out of the individual classes to compete in such events as; The Wheelchair races, a Pie·Eating contest, a Water Guzzle, the Egg Toss and many other wild events. The winners of each event scored points for their classes. The last and highest scoring event was a huge Tug·of·War between the classes. The Tug·of·War was the most spectacular event. The Senior Class, as usu· al, was leading throughout the whole event. Although they lost the Tug-of·War, the Seniors prevailed in the overall standings. This made it the third year in a row that this class has conquered over the other classes in this competitive assembly. This assembly was really an ice·breaker! It welcomed the incoming Freshman with a blast of spirit. The high morale of the upper·class· men magnified the enthusi· asm of the Baby Beets. The success of this as· sembly will linger and create an atmosphere that will out· do any that have preceeded it at Jordan High.14

Pep Assemblies Sparkle With Spirit Jerry, \" Zulu \", Van and Chris, we know you're under there .. . Pep assemblies were boosted with the creativity of our Student Body Offi· cers, the same creators of the famed \"Alta pop\"·which had no taste. Jordan High students were psyched with skits ranging from the serious and dramatic death of a Provo Bulldog to a hilarious dis· play of support from our fac· ulty cheerleaders and band over the excitement of the State football finals. Special appearances by Jordan alumni as well as entertain· ing routines by the Song· leaders and Cheerleaders provoked added excitement through the vim and vigor of their enthusiasm. The Charlonians also con· tributed to the sparkle by performing intricate marches with various cos· tume changes, lifting school pride and spirit through their energetic style. And here's Jordan's GREAT football tec~ml22

Cheering our teams on to victory may seem like an easy job, but it isn't. It's get· ting up at 5 A.M. all summer long to practice. It's devot· ing all of your spare time keeping Jordan's spirit above all the rest. But this years Cheerleading and Songleading squads met this challenge head on and at full speed. With overwhelming spunk and spirit they came forth on the very first game, brought the crowd to it's feet and have kept it there ever since. They did their best to keep us entertained not only at the games but also at the many pep assem· blies. Matt Guss Because of Jordan's great success this year, all of our time and effort has been worth it. The early morning practices, week long camps, preparation of assemblies and the perfecting of cheers and routines are all part of the job to keep up the spirit of Jordan High School. A Winning Combination Peer pressure forced us to combine our sophomores and juniors into one big J.V. squad, and what a combina· tion! As a new squad they were given new responsibil· ities. They not only cheer at J.V. games but at sopho· more, freshmen, and girls' basketball as well. They raised our spirits at every game, and led our students to cheers that pushed our teams to victory. Charlonians New With Jazz The Charlonians started this year off with a fretic explosion as they marched in the Sandy 4th of July parade. Their first awards came to them in the form of two first place trophies as they were competing at the University of Utah drill team camp. They showed off their new jazz style in a competition sponsored by Cyprus High and were awarded a second place trophy in the prop and novelty division. Guided by Mrs. Wil· Iiams and Mrs. Pay, the Char· lonians were able to keep up their winning tradition by tak· ing first place awards at the Kearns and Brigham Young University parades. They enter· tained at both halftime and at pep assemblies. Through hard work and dedication these high· spirited young ladies have high· kicked themselves into our hearts. - OFFICERS President: Debra Horscroft I rst Vice: Linda Duncan 2nd Vice: Cindy Avery Head Drill Mistre\"c Shontell Christensen Asst Drill Mistress: Julie Ayers Asst Drill Mistress: LeAnn Muir Secretary DeAnne Howell Historian: Stacy Ont1veros Yell Mistress: Dewn Peyton Treasurer: Debbie Kokkole Shontell Christensen flashes a smile to the crowd .36
