Acharya Devvrat आचाय देव त Governor, Gujarat Gandhinagar-382021 रा यपाल, गजु रात गांधीनगर - ३८२०२१ 16 Nov 2021 MESSAGE I heartily extend my greetings to all the Officers, Staff and Cadets of National Cadet Corps Gujarat. Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu on the occasion of 73rdAnniversary of the “National Cadet Corps.” I have observed that NCC in Gujarat is working relentlessly to promote the values of character, patriotism, unity and national pride amongst the youth. The cadets of Gujarat Directorate have been in the forefront in the process of Nation building. Their commitment towards their fellow beings and selfless service was evident during Exercise NCC Yogdan, donating blood for the needy and spreading awareness about COVID-19 pandemic besides taking part in other activities. I appreciate the various activities that are being undertaken by Gujarat NOC Directorate for the development of our society. They have been at the forefront of Social Development activities and have played an important role in spreading awareness about various activities such as Exercise Yogdan in support of the civil administration in combating Covid-19, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan among people. It is due to the efforts of the NCC Cadets and staff. A lot of awareness has been created due to the dedication and efforts performed by the NCC Cadets. I am much glad to learn that National Cadet Corps (NCC) is celebrating its 73rd Anniversary this year with great enthusiasm and NCC is bringing out a Journal named The Cadet Gujarat-2021 to mark the celebration. I sincerely congratulate the praiseworthy performance of NCC Gujarat and compliment the officers, staff and cadets for the same. The Na onal Cadet Corps is a remarkable youth movement in the country which is rendering a great service to the na on by inculca ng the spirit of secularism, na onal integra on, and selfless service. The NCC Cadets of Gujarat have been at the forefront of Social Development ac vi es, and have played an important role in educa ng the popula on about campaigns like Blood Dona on, Swacch Bharat, Be Bachao Be Padhao, Road Safety, etc. Exercise NCC Yogdan has also been the meal tes mony of the selfless contribu on of the cadets in comba ng the COVID-19 pandemic. The high sense of social commitment displayed by young cadets was an exemplary devo on to their du es. I would also like to compliment the staff of Gujarat Directorate for impar ng effec ve training to the codets and inculca ng the quali es of leadership, courage discipline and seless service, and transforming them into valuable ci zens of the Na on. The Directorate has also been prisac ve in an expansion of NCC in the Border and Coastal region of Gujarat and also ensuring the upda on crea on of training infrastructure for training of the cadets. Major General Arvind Kapoor 9 Additional Director General NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu MESSAGE On the occasion of the 73d Anniversary of Na onal Cadet Corps, I extend my gree ngs and felicita ons to all Officers, ANOS, GCIS, PI Staff Civilian Staff and Cadets of NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu. The last year has thrown up new and unforeseen challenges for NCC and I am proud to state that due to the hard work and dedica on of the staff and cadets, the Directorate has once again risen to the occasion and come out with flying colours. It was ensured that the training of cadets does not get affected and the training has been seamlessly transferred to online mode, it was also ensured that all affected cadets undergo the applicable camps with full Covid protocols. Besides the ins tu onal training the cadets of the Directorate also ac vely took part in their Social Service and Community Development commitments towards their fellow beings. The NCC cadets ac vely remained deployed in Exercise NCC Yogdan for 115 con nuous days in support of the District administra on and also as part of #EkMaiSaukeLiye campaign connected with the people through various digital pla orms and assisted them in overcoming the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic. The cadets also ac vely par cipated in other social ac vi es such as Blood Dona on, Swachhata Abhiyan, Be Bachao Be Padhao Abhiyan Tree Planta on etc. The selfless efforts of the cadets have been applauded by one and all. Our shared vision with the State Goverment aims at empowering the youth with essen al life skills with due a en on to Tribal Youth, Cadets from remote areas and especially girls for meaningful contribu on to the Na on Building. We have also ensuredmaximum coverage of NCC in the Border and Coastal areas as per the vision of theHon'ble Prime Minister. It has been our resolve to take NCC to new heights, achieve laurels and succeed in bringing good name to the State of Gujarat and the Na onal Cadet Corps It gives me immense sa sfac on on seeing the progress and achievements of our Cadets in training and numerous sports, adventure, professional, cultural as well as societal development ac vi es. I wish to express our most sincere gra tude to the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shn Bhupendra Patel and the Hon'ble Educa on Minister Shri Jitubhal S. NCC DIRECTORATE GUJARAT, DADRA NAGAR HAVELI, DAMAN AND DIU Early History Grouping of Union Territories During 1947, Saurashtra was a separate princely state comprising The union territories of Dadra Nagar Haveli were grouped with NCC the present districts of Bhavnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Rajkot and directorate in February 1963. Subsequently, the territories of Daman Surendranagar. Remaining districts of the present Gujarat state and Diu were also included. Thus, the directorate is now responsible formed part of Bombay state which was then a union territory. In for the whole of Gujarat state and the union territories of Dadra Nagar 1949, JD NCC coverage was provided to the schools of Saurashtra; Haveli, Daman and Diu. where as both JD and SD coverage was provided to remaining districts of present Gujarat state (then forming part of Bombay state) Raising of NCC Group Headquarters under 1 Circle Cadet Corps located at Bombay. In 1955, 15 Circle Cadet Corps was formed at Jamnagar with three SD units, one each In order to carry out the additional task & to ensure effective located at Rajkot, Morbi and Bhuj. The state of Gujarat was formed from the former Greater Bombay NCC Group HQ (B), Ahmedabad. state on 01 May 1960. Until then, every state had a Circle NCC Group HQ(C), Ahmedabad. Headquarters. 1 Circle Cadet Corps Bombay was re-organised into 1 NCC Group HQ, Baroda. and 15 Circle Cadet Corps with the latter located at Ahmedabad. HQ NCC Group HQ, Rajkot. 15 Circle Cadets Corps, commanded by Lt Col AOT Paul, Maratha NCC Group HQ, Surat. Light Infantry, started functioning at Ahmedabad from 09 May 1960. NCC Group HQ, Vallabh Vidya Nagar. His designation of Circle Commander was later changed to Director, Cadet Corps, and his office renamed as Cadets Corps Directorate, Gujarat on 04 Feb 1963. Re-Structuring Subsequently, NCC Group HQ (C) Ahmedabad was moved to Bhavnagar and designated as NCC Group HQ Bhavnagar in December 1964, NCC group HQ (B), Ahmedabad was disbanded on 02 February 1969. Thus there is now only one Group HQ in Ahmedabad. NCC Group HQ Bhavnagar and Surat were disbanded during re-organisation in February 1977. A total of 20 units were also disbanded in the entire state. Current Status Post raising of Jamnagar Group in 2015, the Directorate got re-oraganized into 5 Group Headquarters and 31 Army Units, 3 Air Force Units and 9 Naval Units.
