Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” The pandemic Covid -19 has brought along unprecedented challenges and changes in our lives. The biggest challenge, so far, has been to grapple with the loss of our loved ones, both, on personal as well as professional front. This challenge is set to change the way we look at life, its accomplishments and the numerous plans we design for future. Simply stating, this pandemic has changed our life equations. It has burst quite a few bubbles for us, the bubble of ego, the bubble of dominance, the bubble of indifference, to name a few. No one, I repeat, not a single soul has been left unscathed by the sharp claws of this pandemic. It has bruised one and all. While we lament the loss this pandemic has caused, and the emotional trauma it has unleashed due to the loss of our loved ones, we also grope to limp back to normalcy. I fall short of words while describing the pain and agony I feel at the loss of some of my beloved colleagues and other members of Indraprastha fraternity. Their memories will remain, forever etched, in our hearts. As a tribute to all those whom we have lost due to this pandemic, I would only like to mention that today, I salute not the sun, not the stars, but I laud those heroes whose journeys were abruptly shortened due to the pandemic. In these testing times, we stand united through a shared grief, the grief of our loved and most admired ones. Dr. Rajesh Hassija Director Indraprastha Group of Schools

Chairman's Message FROM THE Shri A. S. Rana CHAIRMAN’S DESK The turning point in Everyone experiences adversity at some point in life. It comes upon the process of you in an unfamiliar and unexpected manner. Although it is always stressful and chaotic at first, it is during these adverse times that we growing up is when learn and grow. It is a proven fact that after a difficult challenge or you discover the core moment, we develop a resiliency that helps us deal with other challenges in life. Of course, hardships hurt, but they also bring out of strength within the best in us. you that survives all The current testing times have, more or less, the same message for all of us. We cannot control the pain that comes with such times, but hurt. we can control our responses and have more courage and strength to face every challenge that comes our way. All we have to seek is the -Max Lerner seed of triumph in every challenge that life throws at us. I am proud to share that Indraprastha has stood its guard in such testing times, too, and has proved itself as the anchor of hope for all the learners and their families. The never-say-die spirit exhibited by team Indraprastha is indeed worth appreciation and I have no qualms in confessing that this team will not be bogged down by the iceberg of the challenges that appear to obstruct its way. In fact, the ship of Indraprastha will sail through, successfully, carefully and confidently as it is anchored by faith, belief, confidence and support of all its stakeholders. I strongly believe that you cannot connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. So, all of us have to keep our hopes high, and have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in the future. We will all be able to overcome these difficult times, too. The sun, full of sunshine, hope, warmth, optimism, brightness will shine on us and will help us witness a bright future for all. I wish team Indraprastha all the best for this edition of E- Newsletter. All the best! (A.S. RANA) Chairman Indraprastha SCHOOLS www.indraprasthaschool.com VOL. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 01

Director's Message The current times have proved, more than anything else, that in life, nothing can be taken for granted, neither Dr Rajesh Hassija happiness nor health. While the pandemic has brought to the fore our follies and fears, it has also highlighted our \"It is your reaction to adversity, strengths. The strength to survive, the strength to not the adversity itself that overcome adversities, the strength to rise again as a phoenix, and above all, the strength to maintain physical determines how your life’s story and emotional well-being. It is this collective strength of will develop.” – Dieter F. all of us which proves as a synergy to fight this unequal Uchtdorf battle with an invisible enemy. At Indraprastha, we understand the need to connect and Welcome Assembly link- the necessity to provide the ultimate emotional and Session 2021-22 psychological support that a learner, or his/ her family may need in such times. It is indeed commendable on the part of team Indraprastha that each and every member has gone beyond the call of the duty to traverse the path in untrodden territories, to ensure that neither the scholastic, nor the co-scholastic activities take a back seat due to the pandemic. The holistic development, in all the domains of learning, has continued relentlessly, ever since the pandemic arrived unannounced at our threshold. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Indraprastha had paved the way, for the other institutions to follow, by being one of the pioneers in shifting to online mode of learning. This year, too, the initiatives taken by Indraprastha have set new miles stones for other to emulate. We not only successfully organized virtual Orientation Day for the students and parents of Pre-School, class III and XI, but also undertook a plethora of activities, in the online mode. Director's Message Dr Rajesh Hassija The highlight of all the activities conducted so far were the Happiness Classes, organized for the students of classes PS to VIII, which not only helped the learners to be engaged constructively, but also created a positive connect amongst the teachers and the taught. The online PTMs were highly successful and were instrumental in providing the much needed booster to team Indraprastha in the form of positive feedback by the parents’ fraternity for the efforts undertaken for the emotional and psychological well-being of the learners. It fills me with immense pride to share with you that while one of my students has developed an app ‘Bal Rakshak’, aimed at reducing/ preventing crime/ abuse against the children, another has formed a Whatsapp group ‘Covid Verfd Leads’ to provide verified leads, on a daily basis, for the availability of plasma donors, oxygen cylinders, concentrators, hospital beds, ambulances, free meals etc. to those in need. Not only this, my learners have also formed ‘Buddy Groups’, in all the classes, to provide the much needed psychological and emotional support to their peer group, who have been severely affected by the pandemic. It is often said that prayers have the power to heal everything, and, that when everything else fails, trust the power of prayers. Off late, a unique enterprise was initiated by the music department in the form of evening prayers, recorded and sung by the students of Indraprastha. These prayers, shared with all the students regularly, soothe the souls and calm the minds of one and all. To conclude, I would like to say that after a difficult challenge or moment, we develop a resiliency that helps us deal with other challenges in life. Hardships hurt, but they can also bring out the best in us. This issue of e-newsletter is a vivid presentation of the best practices adopted by the school during the online mode of learning, the unique initiatives taken by Indraprastha for the holistic development of its learners, the connect that was painstakingly built between the teacher and the taught, and above all, the success story that we continue to script. I once again urge you to stay home, stay safe. Happy reading! (Dr. RAJESH HASSIJA) Director Indraprastha Group of Schools WWW.INDRAPRASTHASCHOOL.COM VOL. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 03

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK When times are good, be grateful, and when times are tough, be graceful. This year has brought us face-to-face with unique struggles and challenges. It is in times like these that one needs constant emotional and psychological support. I take this opportunity to thank the staff members and parents of Indraprastha for the collaborative efforts initiated by them for the well being of all the learners. It is due to these collaborative efforts that the mental health and the psychological well being of all the learners has been taken care of, during these tough times. Not only this, the efforts of the teachers, in ensuring that the learners are constructively and positively occupied, with the help of a plethora of scholastic and co scholastic activities, is worthy of appreciation. The online classes and the activities conducted therein have ensured that the children are diverted from the negativity prevalent in abundance these days. If the children of our families can be saved from the trauma, the grief and the uncertainty that these times have brought along, our battle is half won. WWW.INDRAPRASTHASCHOOL.COM VOL. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 04

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK One silver lining in the dark cloud of pandemic is that it has lead to the development of various socio-groups amongst the learners. These groups have been sensitive to the needs and sufferings of the people and are working round the clock to provide the requisite resources to those in pain. This gesture, apart from showcasing humanity at its best, has also brought to the fore the untiring zeal of the learners. I have no qualms in accepting, that my children have indeed made their institution, parents, teachers and myself proud of them, of their efforts. It may appear to be an indefatigable and never ending night, but we have to remember that sun always shines to dispel the darkness. We have to ensure that our children become the sun to dispel the darkness of negativity. These testing times have given us ample opportunities to instill and inculcate in our children the values of being socially responsible, so that they may work as tirelessly and selflessly as the sun himself. Let us give them the wings of courage so that they may soar unrestricted to touch new vistas of success. I hope that the contributions of the learners in this issue of the E-Newsletter are able to bring some sunshine in everyone’s life. Wishing health and happiness for all! BEST PRACTICES IN PERFORMING ARTS DURING THE ONLINE CLASSES At Indraprastha, the co scholastic activities are not bound by the physical presence of the teachers and the taught. Even during the online mode of teaching-learning, the number and magnitude of performing arts activities conducted is envy of all. These activities, on one hand, are highly successful in engaging the learners constructively. On the other hand, they are great team building exercises and help the learners connect with their peer group and the teachers. Not only this, these activities go a long way in inculcating community values and generating positive vibes, something which is much need in the current scenario. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHERS Teachers are the pillars of every good institution, and Indraprastha is no different. While we are ready to travel that extra mile for the welfare and holistic development of our learners, we are ready to traverse unexplored pastures for the professional development of our teachers. These activities build confidence in the work that the teachers undertake, especially during this pandemic, when they are multi tasking as teachers and counsellors. A series of online workshops were organised for all the teachers to help them grow professionally. www.indraprasthaschool.com Vol. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 14

Best Practices – Mathematics (class VI) We are amidst a global pandemic, Coronavirus, outbreak. The education sector, just like other sectors, is also facing a lockdown. However, that doesn’t mean that the institutions are resting. In the last few days, school has taken some major decisions undertaking this challenge as an opportunity to shift focus from schooling only at schools to ‘school-home collaboration for learning’. This is the time to build synergy between the home environment and school environment. Keeping the children’s interests in mind, numerous activities related to the world of mathematics were conducted in the virtual classes, aiming to create curiosity, engrossment and deliberation among the young minds and simultaneously widening their computational and reckoning skills. Following are the few activities that were conducted during the online mode of teaching. Activity on Indian and International Area model for distributive property system of numeration. of whole number Activity on Roman Numerals Quiz on properties of whole numbers Counting of figures (triangles) Vedic Mathematics tricks Counting of figures (square and Sieve of Eratosthenes rectangles) Parts of circle using paper folding method Besides encouraging students to enjoy their learning experience, activity-based learning has helped students understand information and concepts. By encouraging students to get physically and mentally involved in the learning process, activity-based learning helped the students learn and retain information. www.indraprasthaschool.com Vol. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 41

FUN FILLED MATHS ACTIVITIES IN LOCKDOWN (Class VII) In order to ensure that the children are not adversely affected by the pandemic, they were involved in various fun filled online math's activities so that they could enhance their reasoning skills, art skills and mathematical skills. The students of class VII were involved in various activities including Multiplication of Integers using dice, 3-D cube tessellation activity, Triangle and Line tessellation activity. They learnt various Vedic Mathematics Tricks for quick calculations and different types of Logical Reasoning Questions were discussed consisting of Blood Relation, Coding, Decoding, Number Series, Letter Series, English Dictionary etc. Few facts about coins, dice and cards were also discussed with the kids so as to enhance their knowledge about Probability. The Young Samaritans “Help one another. There’s no time like the present, and no present like the time.” Indraprastha has always worked for the holistic development of its learners, whatever be the circumstances. In these tough and testing times, the students of Indraprastha have emerged as Samaritans, surpassing the boundaries of time, age, caste, creed, and economic status. When Mahatma Gandhi remarked that the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others, he had probably foreseen the difficulties that the country would find itself plummeted into, nearly a century later. The current pandemic has made us a witness to one of the most challenging times ever. While on one hand the people are struggling to cope with the invisible enemy, on the other hand, scores of citizens are fighting a fatiguing battle to arrange the much needed, life saving resources. So moved were four girls from class XII at the plight of people struggling to arrange the resources, that they decided to help everyone, who came their way, with whatever they had, in whichever way they could. Inspiration comes in all sizes and shapes, they say. The plight of some was inspiration to these children.. www.indraprasthaschool.com Vol. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 09

Yet another student, Pratyush Ghosh of class VI, has developed an app, ‘Bal Rakshak’, which is aimed at reducing/ preventing crime/ abuse against children. At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished… it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back. After all, we are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you. Remember, alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. www.indraprasthaschool.com Vol. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 11

A Whatsapp group, by the name ‘Covid Verfd Leads’ was formed by Nancy Sharma of class XII B2. Soon she was joined in this effort by Mehak Bansal, Vanshika Sinha and Vrinda Goyal of the same class. These heroes have been working practically 24x7 to provide leads, which are verified on a daily basis, for the availability of plasma donors, plasma, oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, hospital beds, ambulances, ICU set-up at home, nurses, free food for covid patients … the list is inexhaustible. These students were instrumental in salvaging many lives, across the city, and currently have about 140 individuals seeking help on a regular basis. Their humane gesture, in these testing times, is like a vein of water flowing hidden underground, secretly making the ground of humanity green. SERVICE IPIETS – INGRAINED WITH VALUES OF BEFORE COMPASSION & EMPATHY SELF The seeds of community service and welfare of the society are sown early at Indraprastha. The learners at Indraprastha are ingrained with the value system which is envy of all. While in school, the learners actively participate in various community programmes, whether it is helping the needy, providing for the orphans and the elderly, contributing books and stationery for the underprivileged, creating awareness about burning social issues… the list is endless. It was proved, yet again, beyond doubts, that the learners of Indraprastha carry the legacy of values with them, wherever they go and in whatever they do, when an alumnus came forward to help the needy during the testing time of the pandemic. Ms. Gunpreet, an alumnus of 2016 batch of Indraprastha INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, came up with a brilliant idea of sharing with all the leads of various resources and valuable information, related to Covid 19, through a Telegram group. Her efforts are worth applauding, and have helped many instill their faith in humanity. Join by clicking here WWW.INDRAPRASTHASCHOOL.COM VOL. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 12

Prayers have the Power to Heal Never underestimate the power of prayers. In fact, it is because of prayers that we are able to sail through the roughest storms. A person, who believes strongly in his prayers, can awaken from within his own sub-consciousness, huge stores of confidence and power, and thus, achieve his desired goal. It was in recognition of the above belief that the Music Department of Indraprastha initiated a novel idea, of sharing prayers for the well being of all, on a daily basis. These prayers have become everyone’s daily dose of inspiration and motivation. www.indraprasthaschool.com Vol. 2.01 APRIL 2021 Page 13

Under the guidance of the teachers, students learnt about the dividends of a hearty laughter, that drives away the stress and enhances the blood circulation. The children were also apprised of the ill -effects of the noise pollution and the surging need to reduce it. The young artists expressed their concern by designing attractive posters with catchy slogans. Teachers made the children aware of the pros and cons of the technology in the daily lives as a part of the celebration of the World Technology Day. To commemorate the International Dance Day, the students enthusiastically participated in various dance activities. While their little feet swayed with the joy of learning the different dance forms, their eyes glittered with delight. The activities were not only thoroughly enjoyed by the students but by the entire family and strengthened the family bond.
