INTELLIGENT LITTLE CREATURE Felix Ranjith Fabiyan Jr.3 D An African grey parrot has proved to be better than children and adults in a memory test (Shell game). An extraordinary parrot, Griffin was able to outperform children between 6-8 years. Shell game is a game where a small item (like a pea) is put under some shells or cups. These are then quickly slid into different places and a person watching has to guess where the pea is.

ANIMALS OF THE BY AARAV ABREU ARABIAN DESERT Jr.4 C There are many animal species in the Arabian desert such as the sand cat, striped hyenas, caracals, Arabian wolf camels, etc. The Arabian Desert is home to a wide range of animals. The animals have adapted for life in a dry, arid and nearly water free environment. It has over 20 different species of animals, going from birds to reptiles, mammals, invertebrates and many more. Here is some information of the animals listed below: ARABIAN ORYX The Arabian Oryx became extinct in the wild in 1972 in the Arabian Peninsula. It was reintroduced in 1982 in Oman but poaching has reduced its numbers there. One of the largest populations of Arabian Oryx exists on Sir Bani Yas Island in the UAE. Additional populations have been added in Bahrain, Jordan, UAE and Saudi Arabia. After some time, their numbers began to rise and now it is classed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). SAND CAT The Sand Cat is a small wild cat. It inhabits sandy stony deserts far from water sources. With its sandy to light grey fur, it is well camouflaged in a desert environment. The long hair covering its paws insulates its pads against hot desert sand. When it is hunting it makes no noise and leaves no tracks. Due to its wide distribution and large population, it is listed as least concern by the IUCN. STRIPED HYENA The striped hyena is native to North and East Africa, Middle East, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Indian Subcontinent. It is listed as near threatened by the IUCN. It is the smallest of the true hyenas. The global population is estimated to be under 10,000 mature individuals. Though primarily scavengers, large specimens have been known to kill their own prey. NUBIAN IBEX The Nubian Ibex is a desert dwelling goat species found in mountainous areas of Northern and North East Arica and the Middle East. It is historically considered to be a subspecies of Alpine Ibex , but now it is considered a distinct species. The wild population is estimated at 1200 individuals. There are still a lot of animals and plants to talk about. If you are interested, you can research more about other Arabian animals.

EYE The role of the eyes is to collect vast amounts of visual information, which the brain turns into 3D pictures of the world around us. Each eye has a built- in lens to give a picture of the world and a back of sensors to record it. Human eyes can focus on anything from a close- up speck of dust to a galaxy across the universe and work in both faint moonlight and dazzling sunshine. The lens in each eye focuses light rays together on the back of the eyeball. Receptors record the patterns of light, shade and colours, then send them to brain to make an image. VISION The human eye is excellent at picking up different colours and fine details .The position of two eyes also mean they can provide a tremendous range of visual information about what is being looked at. The powerful vision -processing areas of the brain then interpret this torrent of data into highly detailed mental images-which your memory then helps you to recognize.
THREE COLOURS There are three types of colour-detaching cones inside the eyes. They are sensitive to red, blue, green .But combined, they can detect millions of colours all made of mixture these three basic colours. Eye muscles Three pair of muscles control the movements of each eye, allowing it to swivel and roll to look up, down, or from side to side. The muscles are fast-acting, so the eye can easily follow a moving object. Kailas Joshi Nambiar Jr.4 C
SOLAR OVEN Materials Shoe box , Aluminum foil , plastic wrap or bag , black construction paper , tape , glue , pencil , scissors or box cutter. For the s’mores marshmallo w ,graham cracker and chocolate bar
PROCEDURE * Get a small shoe box and scissors or box cutter, build leg stands to the shoebox lid. * Build aluminum foil walls put it on for corners of the box and under the cover lid. * Put a black cardboard on the bottom part because it absorbs all the radiant heat falling upon it. * Place a prepared food inside a clean cookware that fits in the box and take it outside under the sun, make sure it get a maximum amount of sunlight. Ethan Benedict DC. Lopez Conclusion: Jr.5 C During the experiment on the solar oven on a mid-day I have observed that the marshmallow did not melt as expected. Maybe the weather is colder than usual. The chocolate did melt and the biscuit became softer. I therefore conclude that a solar oven will work effectively during the summer season.

Science is full of inventions, experiments, studies and much more. But I think the most important inventions are: Medicines 1.Medicines Medicines help cure people from sicknesses. Hippocrates of Kos, also known as Hippocrates II, was a Greek physician of the Age of Pericles, who is also known as the ‘Father of Medicines’. He was known for his teaching as much as his healing ability. Hippocrates passed on his medical knowledge to his sons, Thessalus and Draco, and started a medical school on the island of Kos, around 400 BCE. It was probably here where many of his methods were developed. He used herbs, plants and other natural items to cure people. Ayurveda was the first medicine; that is made from plants; e.g. pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric and many more. But the most important discoveries were Anesthesia and Penicillin. Anesthesia helped reduce the pain after going to a dentist or after a surgery. Penicillin was very important in 1942 when disease caused by bacteria was being produced. First Printing Press 2.The next important discovery is: Printing press Printing was invented by Johannes Gutenberg. Gutenberg was born in Mainz, Germany. Gutenberg started experimenting in Strasbourg, France in 1440. He then went back to Mainz, Germany by 1450 and had a printing machine perfected and ready to use commercially. It later went on developing from wood to plastic ones that we use today. patricia Manteiro Jr..6b

Mates on Mars? Aliens, Space, Mars and Martians…we’ve all heard of these before, but a little bit of research on whether living creatures may exist on Mars or any other planet, for that matter, may blow your mind. Do aliens really exist? Actually, the real question is, are aliens close enough for us to discover? Well, the universe in itself is really big. Our Solar System is a part of the Milky Way galaxy that consists of nearly 200 million Solar Systems. Our universe consists of about 3 trillion galaxies (of which we know so far!). So, there is a lot of real estate out there to live on. Although they probably won't look like the green humanoid shape with large blue eyes, some type of life definitely sustains on some of the planets in the universe. They may be highly advanced like us or may be just small kinds of mushroom-like creatures. Some people claim that they have seen mysterious flying objects / UFOs that may be associated with aliens. This includes the US military officially publishing 3 UFO videos. Even though there is evidence, these haven’t been scientifically proven so we can’t be certainly sure. A report submitted by the research company ‘The Conversation’ states that 4 out of 5 scientists believe that life exists on other planets as well. Will we ever discover aliens? With further advances in technology, NASA scientists believe that we will be able to discover and explore other parts of our galaxy. They claim that this will be able to help us gain more information about life in the outer universe. Well, if we are lucky and the aliens are highly advanced, they may arrive on Earth and may communicate to us using signals. Nevertheless, the chances of this are very low, it would be amazing to meet people from different planets. NASA scientists predict that hopefully by mid 2030s to 2040s, we will be able to find some form of life in space. So, I pose my question again - Do aliens really exist? Well, we’ll need to wait to find out… DISCLAIMER- If you ever meet an alien, don’t give them handshakes or take pictures. They may not be as friendly as Earthlings and may see this as a dangerous act. By doing so, being punched, slapped or shot with a laser gun are inevitable. Anlin Angel Sr. 4C

DNA – THE CODE OF LIFE Do you have ear lobes or not? Can you roll your tongue or not? Have you noticed that some people can’t do or have certain things that you can do whether it is rolling your tongue or having an earlobe. You are a special being with a trait that you have inherited from your family. But, did you know something deep inside of you that codes your traits? DNA( deoxyribonucleic acid )is a long strand connected with genetic material to form a double helix. DNA is found in the nucleus of cells. It is so long that it should be wound up into a simpler form called chromosomes. Humans have 46 chromosomes in them. DNA identifies a living organism, it is what makes you. It’s what gives you your physical characteristics like dark or light hair color. DNA is very useful for health care purposes.DNA analysis can be used to find solutions to hereditary diseases. Doctors could use your genetic information to predict and act on medical decisions they make.
RiDldLe AnSweRsDNA can also be used to research family history by blood samples or swabs of saliva from inside the cheek. This can help to find the origins of your family tree and can reveal the migration patterns of your ancestors. DNA could also be used to breed animals. For example, cows are bred to produce more milk or more meat, and crops are bred to produce more yield. DNA gives us the ability to discover ourselves. It is the code that defines us! So whenever you look around, try to remind yourself that each living organism has its unique code. As each one has a unique code, they have a unique life. Each one of us is special in a different way. Ushara Shevoni Fernando Sr.4C EArth. MASS. miCrOwAve PArtiCle. A SUPernOvA. letter \"V\" MerCUry SPOnge eChO. ANS. SUn.
