The Paradox - 2021 Time passes on with everyone settled in with their new lives, Accepting family games and Netflix as a way to pass time, New normal, the catch phrase of the day. But, as we sit in the comfort of our homes, Businesses outside wonder which way to roam, Shops and brands, big and small being hit hard by the pandemic, Bosses agonize over whom to cut and feel demonic, People laid off and others even worse, Some driven to a hapless state and muse it as a curse. One tiny potent virus has changed the world in ways that are many, And made normal lives and jobs turn uncanny. While we scrounge for things to do, Teachers double up as educators and housekeepers too, Spending long hours figuring how to teach, A bunch of unruly kids with a noise in the background of each, While we have long and unfruitful searches on YouTube, Doctors are fighting against the clock to get back home cool, As they try not to show signs of strain and worry to anyone, Not to scare them with all the work they have done, They go to work day in, day out, Risking not only their lives, but their families too, even if they don’t say it with their own mouths.

On the other side of the story, patients lie in wait, To know if they will be fine or they were detected too late, Families watch from outside the window, Not able to spend precious moments with loved ones, Before they go, world leaders try to put regulations in place, Some of the public thwarting them roundly, just to see another face, people who travelled to places high and low, Are now stuck in the middle of a tightrope, not knowing where to go. As we look at all these people around the world, Struggling to make ends meet for their little boy and girl, It makes us realize how fortunate we really are, In spite of our school term and social life coming undone, We’re all in this together, no one’s in another Here’s to quitting our cribbing, and instead of supporting each other, To make sure, we all reach a better tomorrow - sooner. Rheanna Kantipudi Sr. 3B

One fateful day, when I was eight, I came across a well. I slipped and fell straight into it, but shockingly I didn't drown. Instead, I found myself in a land full of gorgeous brightly coloured birds, and animals that were in strange colours. It was a land of pink, purple, and blue birds and animals. As I walked through this magical land, I noticed that it had grown dark, the animals had gone missing, and in front of me, I saw a statue covered in vines, it was the most boring object in sight. I started walking away to play with animals, but then I heard a voice say, \"Don't go, I will be your friend ! \". I was puzzled and wondered, \"Who had said those words? Had the statue?\". No, that's absurd. Incited by the words of the statue, I answered with a “Hello?” You may think I am crazy, but I was curious to know if the statue could really move. The statue slowly bent down over me… I was shocked, never in my life did I see a statue that could talk and move. \"Ella\", said the strange statue. \"I’ll be your friend, I’m Ella\". I didn't want to be alone in this world, so as expected I shouted out a grand 'yes'! From that day, I started seeing Ella every day, and over time we became friends. But, one day when I came to the magical wonderland, I found something unusual on Ella’s head, it was a gem. I had seen it before, but never had I seen it glow.

Out of curiosity, I touched it, Ella screamed out and said, “NO, not that one!” But it was too late, I was transported to the past, where I saw Ella. I couldn’t believe my eyes.Ella was, once, a human. My eyes popped out of my sockets when I saw another statue, she had a gem too. I saw Ella touching the gem and turning into a statue. Then, I panicked. Whether I, too, would become a statue. My heart started racing, I almost teared up. Suddenly, I returned to the magical land. There I saw Ella, she was smiling, but in a creepy way. She said, \"Come on, darling. Touch this gem instead! Become a statue and let me be free!\" I started running saying, \"No! I don't want to!\" I started to tear up... Then, I saw the well, not knowing what do, I jumped into it, but then I fell off my bed. I let out a relieved sigh, glad that it was all a dream! Danika Merion Sr. 1B

My Favourite Sport Sports play an important role in life. My favourite sport is football. I always loved football since I was seven. Football is an outdoor game. It is a fun game and keeps you active. I enjoy playing football with my friends. I watch football matches every weekend. Neymar, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the famous football players. Football is played by two teams. A total of 22 players play this game together. Each team should have 11 players. It is played by hitting a ball with the foot and the players should not touch the ball with their hands. Jivaanujan Niranjan Sr.1C

Stop Stop, my child, and for once, look around Let your fatigued feet sink into the ground, Are you not tired running an endless race? Wishing deep within that this wasn’t your fate, Ask yourself, do you really want this? Or is this society’s unconscious blitz? The life that seems to gleam and glisten, Though the idea was always another’s given A thousand seas await you, And million adventures galore and new Yet what a pity that you wallow here And to someone else’s notion, ad here Life’s meaning isn’t fixed, And not the challenges in the midst Life is what you choose to make it, The purpose is what you choose to shape it People will say a dozen things And some of them will surely sting, But, would you live a life of plastic success As you silence your heart’s distress? Or a life weighed down by insults a many While you soar through the zenith like a bee? Stop, my child, and for once look around, Let your fatigued feet sink into the ground. Dance in the rain that calls out to you Your passion waits to be renewed. That talent and hope was always there Now it’s up to you to make it flare. Falak Shaikh Sr. 4B

Have you ever got a message from anybody that has changed the way you think about something? Well, I have and this one has changed the way I thought about soccer. Everyone including me knew that I was a terrible soccer player. I was too afraid that the ball would hit my face and then, I used to cover my head with my hands. This was the usual story. But, then this letter I got from my school gave me the confidence to overcome all my fears and play well. Early on a bright and sunny morning, I woke up feeling quite joyous obviously because it was Sunday and I had enough sleep. After getting ready, I rushed to the kitchen and said “Good morning, Mom” and she turned her head towards me and said the same. I could already smell what’s for breakfast. “Mmmm pancakes!” I thought. “Dingggg dong!” A sound came from the front door and I hurried to open it. As I peeked through the tiny, narrow seeing-hole, I saw a middle-aged man wearing a blue striped shirt and black pants. He was holding a bag that contained some letters inside. I opened the door and I was greeted by the warm smile of Mr. Ben, our neighbourhood postman. “A letter for Darcy Styles,” he said. I took the letter and signed it, simultaneously thinking about who would have sent me a letter. As I noticed the envelope in my hand, I saw the address of my school. “A letter from the school to me? But why? Did I do something wrong?” All these thoughts raced through my head. With shivering hands and a disagreeable face, I opened the envelope. As I read through it, I got the biggest shock of my life! It was an invitation to join the soccer team and play in the Inter-School Soccer Competition to represent my school. “Is this for me? But, I haven't given my name! Who gave my name then?” I hated soccer from when I was very young. The next day, when I headed out for school, I asked Olivia and Trance whether they had given my name. As I expected, they said 'No' at first, but they couldn't hold it and burst out laughing. “This was the worst prank ever, you guys!” I yelled at them. Then, Trance and Olivia said that he would help me and they would teach me how to play. We used to practice during Sports periods and also after school. On the first few days, I huffed and puffed and was as tired as a boxing bag. After a few days, I got the hang of it. Trance taught me all the different hacks and tricks about Soccer.

“With just a little bit of practice, I knew you could do it,” said Eva, the team’s captain. All the encouragement filled my veins with joy and I was as happy as I could ever be. Finally, it was the day of the match. I freshened myself up, rushed to the car and my Dad dropped me at the stadium. “Good luck Sweetie!” he wished me as he left. I met my teammates. We prayed and wished each other good luck. Within an hour, the game started. There was the yellow team of the Brighton High School and the green team of the Lincoln High School. The game started. I was the shooter in the first half. I scored two goals out of the total three goals that our team scored in the first half. The score after the first half was 3-1. In the second half, I was the goalkeeper. I defended many goals, but missed some. This created a tie and the referee gave both of us a penalty. Eva scored one goal for our school. Now it all depended on me. As the girl kicked the ball, I stretched my hands as far as possible and caught the ball! The whole team jumped with excitement and joy. Our team had won! All the sweat and hard work were finally worth it and we stood gleaming at the huge trophy that we got. I had finally overcome my fear of the soccer ball. It is only because of everyone’s support that I could reach this far. From that day onwards, I promised to try many new things and get out of my comfort zone. Anlin Angel Sr. 4C

No Longer Will I Fear ~Fulfilling your potential~ I fear the worst, Even though I do not know what it is. I continue to remain in a space of my own, With no progress in my skills. I fear myself, That I will be hurt on the route of my journey. I fear the world, To be condemned with no mercy. I live the diurnal in terror To prevent criticism, I hide. But, for how long can I hide? And why should I hide from what should truly be mine? No longer will I live my days afraid, I will face the world in hopes of Success. I will emerge from the hatred and show what I have concealed. I will prove myself and the potential, I possess. Because, for how long can, I fear? With every gift bestowed in my hand, why should I fear? I will prove my worth and my place. I will get through what I had always seen as unclear. For I no longer fear. Merina J. Motha Sr. 3C
