SHS SPARKLES \"SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS\" 5th ISSUE 2022-23
SACRED HEART SCHOOL SALUTES THE LEADERSHIP OF BAHRAIN
VISION Educational Excellence to transform the world in “LOVE and TRUTH” MISSION The Education imparted by the Apostolic Carmel is geared towards the achievement of the highest standards of intellectual, spiritual, personal, and ethical excellence by using the creative skills of the 21st Century and enhancing life-long learning, paving a pathway to be responsible citizens equipped to work for the transformation of society in “Love and Truth” within the global community.
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL “Soaring to new heights” should be the watchword of every learner yesterday, today or tomorrow. As educators it is our bounden duty to aid the learners to soar to new hei ghts, in all spheres of their lea rning. “There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns”,says Edward de Bono. In this post covid era, when the students are suffering from learning loss, and the teachers are striving hard to help the students to face the challenges of learning, our talented students have come up with the idea of expressing themselves through various creative works. Pope Francis at the meeting with the youth, he said “Dear young people, we need you. We need your creativity, your dreams and your courage, your charm and your smiles, your contagious joy and that touch
of craziness that you can bring to every situation, which helps to break us out of our stale habits and ways of looking at things.” Our young scholars have enormous capacity for creativity, imagination and energy which we need to help them to bring out. SHS SPARKLES is one of the ways we tap the talents and creativity of our young minds. In the words of Albert Einstein “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere”. Imagination and creativity play an important role in facilitating the students to soar to new heights. Our students have been helped relentlessly to grow and to find the ultimate expression of themselves in and through various activities and creative events of the school. As we release the 5th Issue SHS SPARKLES, my hearty congratulations to all student artists. Thanks to the hard labour of our committed staff who are always ready to sail across, in spite of what sort of storm may come on their way. May God bless our efforts to help our students to grow in truth and love. Sr.Roselyn Thomas A.C.
MESSAGE FROM THE VICE PRINCIPAL I am glad to address you all, through the 5th edition of our School’s E-magazine with the theme \"Soaring to New Heights\". At the outset, I would like to congrat ulate and thank the management, the students and the staff for their unstinting work to continue the E-magazine of the school. This, in my opinion, is the pertinent issue that might be thought about, throughout the post-epidemic problems after the pandemic. Our students are given the internal drive to think about and assimilate the ways and means to face the post-pandemic struggles that the entire world is experiencing. When we discuss reaching new and loftier heights, the magnificent eagle comes to my mind. The entire Aves family experienced hardship as a result of the prolonged, heavy rain as they were unable to go foraging for food.
However, one bird managed to soar above the clouds, break through them, and locate its prey. That is the eagle, the only bird that can soar into the sky and soar above the clouds. In addition to being able to soar high, eagles live happily for an additional 40 years after reaching their 40th birthday. The entire world is in an economic crisis; many people have been laid off or are unemployed; the pandemic has taken many loved ones away from their families and caused untold pain in the hearts and minds of many, and students have still not returned to the regular learning system. Amidst all these struggles, the Sacred Heart students, have been encouraged to put their attention on, in order to reach new heights. As the Psalmist says, \"My youth is renewed like the eagles.\"Let us trust in the all-powerful God and let Him work in and through us. God bless you all. Sr. Armilian Mylliem A.C.
FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS: A Thrill of Hope ‘’Fly through barriers and s oar to new heights. Dream Big! Believe you can!Achieve and live strong.’’ The views that we perceive from atop the mountains are always breathtaking in their beauty and magnificence. The mountain peaks have been a challenge to climbers for long years and still continues to test people’s endurance to make it to the top. A few have been successful in their climbing, on the contrary many have perished while attempting the ascent. The pathway to reach the top is very difficult, but if one consistently works on a plan, it will happen. The three ways to reach new heights in our walk: Be prepared. The mountain top will not come to us. We must go to it. Every mountain has different demands. We need to be alert and focused about the demands and committed to our life's work. The pandemic has now prepared us to face new hurdles. Be alert. We need to be careful not to fall asleep along our life's journey as students and teachers. When we be alert we sought a deeper understanding.
Keep moving. On our way to success, we may have a lot of distractions. Half way up the Mt. Everest we get a beautiful view. There is even a place located there where people can just sit and enjoy the beauty. Many people like the view so they stop right there and enjoy, while they forget to keep moving. The thumbs-up sign that was given by the Pope to the youth was a magical sign to move ahead. Spread the wings of your faith and soar on the currents of God’s grace. Be lifted to new heights, not by your own efforts but by the breath of God’s spirit. As the 5th version of SHS Sparkles is being released, my profound compliments to all those who have contributed towards the magazine and acknowledge all the efforts of the staff who have worked behind the release of the magazine. May God bless our School. Mrs. Arlin Elizabeth Mathew

POPE FRANCIS VISITS BAHRAIN PEACE ON EARTH TO THE PEOPLE OF GOODWILL In the Middle East, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity occurred when His Excellency, Pope Francis, visited Bahrain. People had the chance to see him, with their families and attend the Holy mass. I came to the mass with my family and friends. We came there at 1 am, and I was a little bit tired but it was worth it, I had to wake up much earlier than most days but I told myself it would be worth it so that I could see the pope. When we arrived at the given place, we had to wait in line for a long time. Then we went on a bus to the stadium in Isa town. The trip was long. When we were waiting for the pope, to arrive to start the mass we had to wait a couple of hours, so we had to just stay there, and I fell asleep, but I woke up just in time to see the pope in his car and I was able to get to the front to see him properly. I was very excited to wave at him as he passed by. The adrenalin was pumping through my veins. I can't explain it, the burst of emotion in the stadium was unbelievable. People were shouting Papa! Pope Francis! Some were crying. All the people in the stadium were delighted to see Pope Francis. After the mass, we got back on a bus, and we went back home. My heart was filled with joy. I was overjoyed and glad to have the once-in-a- lifetime chance to see the Pope in person. I hope and pray that he will visit again soon. Ethan Benedict Jr.6C
What I will do…..? What I will do, to achieve my dreams… We fall into dreams quite often when we fall asleep. Everyone has some kind of dream or desire in their lives. To achieve my dreams, I should work hard with determination. In the future, I want to become an Administrative Officer. To reach there, I have miles to go. First, I will concentrate on my studies. Along with studying well, I will do some other important things that will transform me into a good human being and help me excel in my desired profession. I want to be nice to everyone. I will obey my parents, teachers, and mentors. I will be kind to my friends. I will be truthful, and I will try to never tell lies. I will read more books. As a wise person once said, \"Always dare to dream.\" \"For as long as there’s a dream, there is hope, and as long as there is hope, there is joy in living.\" Maryam George Jr.5A
Casper was a timid and apprehensive boy. He used to cover his face with his hair all the time in public. That boy never left his room and his grades kept decreasing and decreasing. Casper never talked and even if you tried to talk to him, he’d cover his face like a ghastly ghost. He’d bite his nails continually and he had dreadful social anxiety. Everyone expected nothing but an egregious life for him, even his parents. This stage kept gone on for quite some time. But he had a close friend, a truly close friend from long back. His name was Louis, and they both had lost communication due to Casper’s isolation and avoidance of people. However, Louis wanted to meet him at an untold place. Casper was greatly befuddled by this since he hadn’t talked to Louise in ages. Nonetheless, he went to the place. Louis was sitting patiently waiting for Casper. “You wanted to see me?” Casper said in a confused voice. At that place, Casper found out that Louis and his family were moving to a different state, and he wanted to say something to him before he left. There was silence in the room, though from the look on Casper’s face as it was evident that he was sorrowful and saddened by this news. Louis sighed and after a while, he said “Casper, do you want to keep staying like this? You are an intelligent and ambitious boy and you’re capable of achieving great things! I don’t want you to stay like this even when I’m gone. You must try talking to people, stop covering your face, participate in more school activities and study! Focus on your main goal, accepting yourself and becoming a better version of yourself,” Casper was agitated and completely silent.
But he truly wanted to get better, He didn’t want this type of life. So, he did it. He spoke to more people, studied hard and did everything Louis said. He remembered his goal for a long time. He always wanted to become a journalist, so he focused on that. It changed him, it undoubtedly did. He stopped caring about what other people thought and he focused on the main goal of improvement. Casper wasn’t frightened by other people. He accepted and learned from his failure. He dealt with embarrassment and those hateful words people said to him. As time went by, he got into an amazing college and studied journalism among other things. After he graduated, he got a job in the New York Times! Now, Casper gives motivational speeches, travels around the world and he writes about what he sees. He became the most dazzling bright star the world has ever seen, and it was all thanks to Louis. 8 billion people exist on this earth. The average person is known to read less than one book per year. Wonder why I bring up population and reading when the topic is \"A moment I would cherish forever\"? It is because my most cherished moment was when I first began reading. Now, when I say reading, I do not mean when I first began learning my ABCs. It is when I first started to take an interest in books. Being an aesthete since I was a kid, I fell in love with all types of art: singing, dancing, and drawing, but I did not understand how books came under the same category. \"What could a book give me that could be considered art?\" I was just a seven-year-old kid back then, who did not know enough and did not wish to know 'why?' My mom was quite upset about this and asked my 17-year-old sister, the primary motivator of our family, for some help, and she knew what to do to get me reading right away.. A few months later, for my eighth birthday, my loving sister sent me a 'book' as a present. Now, I was not exactly happy about the fact that she gave me a book and I told her that too. But can you guess what she told me? She replied with a chuckle, \"Try it first, who knows, you might like it?\" So, breathing out a deep sigh, I took the book and remembering my sister's words, I slowly tore the gift wrap and read its title. I suddenly looked up, and with a smile that stretched out for a mile and began my journey through my first book. Now, aren't you curious to know what the title was? Well, I let you in on the secret; my sister presented me with a book written by Diane Z. Shore called \"How to Drive Your Sister Crazy!\"
To this day, I carry this book with me wherever I go. Firstly, because it is very precious to me. Secondly, because it contains an unlimited supply of pranks to drive my sister \"crazy!\" {If you wish, I could even let you borrow it, it could be useful!} That day was the first time I realized that books could teleport me to a different world. May it be just a fragment of someone's imagination, yet, the impact it makes on the reader is unbelievable. So, to conclude, my most cherished moment is when I first began my artistic trip through the world of books. Merina Motha Sr.4C

“RING! RING! RING!” went my alarm clock. I woke up all startled and knocked off the alarm clock. It smashed to a million pieces! I always hated that thing anyways. It was a demonic clock… always interrupting my most pleasant dreams. I then asked myself, “What is this place…?” I was not in my room, and I was wearing jeans. WHO SLEEPS WITH JEANS ON? It was then that I remembered that we went camping yesterday and I was sleeping in a tent. I crawled out of my tent and saw the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen in my life. It was aquarium blue, drizzling onto the rocks. The flowers next to it were nodding gently. The bliss-pool at the bottom was vanishingly clear. I was amazed at the sight and my body went motionless. “Well, well, well, look who FINALLY woke up,” said my sister. “Congratulations… for the first time you woke up before me!” I joked. My mom had grilled sausages and chicken and that’s what I had for breakfast… or since it was afternoon, I guess it was my lunch or brunch. I asked my parents what had happened yesterday, and they revealed to me that after seven hours of driving we finally reached the camp site but before I even saw anything, I collapsed from exhaustion and fell asleep. I then found out why I woke up wearing jeans. After that mystery was solved. I admired the view a little more before we finally went home. Even though I don’t remember most of the trip, this was definitely a trip to remember. Student Photo Senal Ravindu Sr.3C

Belief is an integral part of life. No one can live without having beliefs. Many people have beliefs that make them unique- they have strong convictions. Beliefs guide people in making decisions, and they are essential in the creation of art, science and religion. People have different ways of conveying their beliefs. Oftentimes, these ways are creative and mind-blowing. Everyone has a right to believe in anything they want and express it through their actions. Without beliefs, life would lack direction and meaning. You cannot live without having beliefs; therefore, you must have beliefs. Your daily activities show others what you believe. For instance, if you are a communist, you would act like one by living according to communist ideals. If you are a capitalist, you would make money by encouraging the capitalist system. You could also act morally or immorally depending on the actions you choose to represent your belief. They show everyone what they believe through the actions they take every day. When the Holy Father came to Bahrain, He visited four places and one of them was our school. By his arrival our school reached new levels in addition to renovation work. Most importantly the school’s premises have been blessed. Our school has become more popular among the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain and it has started attracting more new admissions. His meaningful advice have made our school and us achieve new heights. His purpose of visiting the school was to meet and enlighten the youth of our school and other schools who are the most important age group to set up a great future ahead. We are truly blessed! My eyes flutter open as I feel a strong gust of air below me; I look down and see nothing but clouds and the water approaching me at a rapid pace. I was falling?! I can’t swim! As I thought of ways to prevent myself from ending up in the freezing water… Oh, how wonderful would it be to have wings to glide above the water! I fell for a few more minutes until I could not see any more puffy clouds… only the vast, deep ocean. I closed my eyes, ready to be grabbed by the water, but then I felt myself stopping! I opened my eyes and then I see that I had wings! I was gliding over the beautiful water, watching the dolphins as they enjoyed their swim. I saw my reflection in the shimmering ocean. I had a curiosity, one of a child. What would happen if I flew up higher? So much so that I’d see the clouds up close again? So I tried! I flew higher and higher, through the soft clouds not turning back. After flying for quite some time, I turned back and looked down; I could no longer see the ocean. I sat on one of the cotton- like clouds, but how? Clouds are mere vapour… but that was not on my mind. How could I possibly take my eyes off a breathtaking view? Everything looked like toys; I could just pick them up. I took a breath of fresh air and looked up this time. A blue light? It was very far away but still visible. And a second time curiosity stuck, I got up and continued to fly not taking my eyes off the glowing light. Now, it looked so close…I could reach out, grab it. As I got even closer, I heard a sound, an annoying melody. My eyes burst open and I was not above the clouds, nor did was I above the ocean. I was on the floor in my room with my alarm clock screaming. How disappointing… what was that light? Was it an orb, a relic or a gem stone? I hopelessly stood up, got ready for school and left…still curious about this so called “magic light”. Erika Gonsalves Sr.1C
‘’Wishing wells!’’ Do you believe in them? We live in a time when wishing wells don't work, but they used to once work. They worked a long time ago. When people believed in all sorts of magical things. It’s because people believed in Wishing Wells. They only need a handful of people to believe in them for them to work, but as more and more people started wishing for evil deeds, they stopped. Wishing wells don’t grant evil wishes. Since many people only started wishing for evil wishes, and those wishes were not being granted people lost their belief in wishing wells. There is little hope that they work, with a child named Martha. She believed that wishing wells still worked. Though her father told her it was a waste of time. She still tried. “But, father! My wishes aren’t evil!” Her father would just laugh and say you're wasting your time darling. Martha’s wish wasn’t evil, that was true, it was just to cure her mother of a sickness. Martha knew the reason the well wasn’t granting her wishes was that there weren’t enough people believing in it. Then it hit Martha, why doesn’t she encourage others to believe in it? She ran up the stairs to her grandmother to ask her for some ideas. When she told her idea to her grandmother, she told her that she already had two people on her side. “You have me and your grandpa on your side” Martha began to rush out but asked “Grandma, why does father not believe in wishing wells?” “A never believes in any magic but we know the truth don’t we?”. “Mom! You need to stop filling her head with this nonsense”. The next day at school Martha told everyone that wishing wells were true and not fake. No one believed her at first but after that, more and more people started believing in her. She then told her friends that the well could only grant good wishes, not evil ones. Some of her friends thought that if the well couldn’t grant evil wishes what was the point of it? Martha came back home, a little disappointed. She told her grandmother that her plan only worked with some kids not all and that some kids thought the well was dumb because it couldn't grant the wishes of greed. The grandmother told her not to give up and that she could do it.
How many people have believed in you so far?” “Only ten people grandma” “Oh, darling, that's enough and more people! The plants around the well could even begin to grow back again!” Martha was surprised by her grandmother’s words. “Oh really grandma, you think so?” “Just try, go on now go visit your mother” On her way to the hospital, she looked out the window and saw the wishing well. She also saw how the brown, dead plants suddenly started becoming green and lively again. She then truly believed she was making a difference. She even saw a line of kids ready to make wishes. This made her cheerful the whole car ride to the hospital. She met her mother at the hospital. “Mother! Mother! I made some kids believe in the Wishing Well!” “That’s great darling-” “I’m gonna use it to save you now!” “Oh, that’s wonderful darling” looking sadly at her husband, with teary eyes. After visiting her mother, she begged her father to let her go to the wishing well. She dropped a coin and took a deep breath and wished for her mother to be well again. Soon enough her mother was back at home, living happily, back with her family. “I told you she could do it,” said Martha’s grandma. “Mom, do you believe that the Wishing Well was the one that did this?” “Well, son, just because your wish was greedy one doesn't mean all wishes are.” “Now go on, enjoy your time with your family.” “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Danika Merion Sr.2B
