2015GED Prep MathematicsCOURSE OVERVIEWGED Prep Mathematics Course is an elective math course intended for the middle school- or high school-level studentwho is in need of basic skill remediation and/or practice necessary to prepare for the high school graduation equivalencyexam (GED). The course reviews the core fundamentals taught in the middle to high school level Pre-Algebra, Algebra Iand Geometry courses by highlighting basic mathematical skills through multiple review, practice and sample examquestions.Upon successfully completing the course, the student should have mastered the following concepts: Perform basic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with fractions, decimals and percentages Be able to construct graphic representation of data using a line graph, histogram and frequency polygon Basic probability and statistical reasoning Solve single variable and linear systems of equations using algebraic and graphical methods Evaluate, solve and graph linear functions as well as conceptualize the relationship between the independent and dependent variable of a function Simplify and perform operations with radical expressions and polynomials Solve quadratic equations by using methods of factoring, square roots and the Quadratic Formula Calculate perimeter, area and volume of figures and solids Know how to solve for angles given parallels, perpendiculars and transversals Be able to determine arcs, angles, chords and sectors of a circle Demonstrate how to solve for the sides and angles of triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons Investigate postulates and theorems used for proving triangle congruency.
