0 Motors and turbines INFORMA- General Information Filter surface TION TG Cartridge Filters have been designed to work in extreme working condi- 1 tions in the aspiration of gas turbines, generators and other rotary-operation equipment, for high performance work cycles in urban, industrial, interior, PRE- marine and coastal environments. FILTERS 2 TG cartridges are available in a wide range of sizes in order to meet the needs of our clients. PAINTING A wide longe of filter media is available in order to ensure effective perfor- BOOTHS mance in specific operational conditions, with 99.8% efficacy in all cases, and capable of retaining particles of up to 0.5 microns. 3 Construction COMFORT The filter media used for TG Cartridge production may be: PRODUCTS 4 S: Synthetic filter media. K1: Synthetic and cellulose mixture. EPA/HEPA F: Water-repellent micro fiberglass media. /ULPA SG-F9: Synthetic and fiberglass media. H: Hepa filter media. 5 The uniform separations between filter media folds are maintained with the use of perimeter bands of melted adhe- sive that is applied heated to interior and exterior fold surfaces. This ensures constant form and distances between HIGH the folds, maintaining the original characteristics of the fold for long periods of time, while optimising the effective TEMPERA- use of the filter surface. The cartridges include inner and outer expanded galvanized metal covers or protections in order to guarantee the safety of the media, while maximizing both the filter surface and dust accumulation capacity. TURE A thermoplastic seal is also made in order to prevent leakages between the galvanized covers at the ends of the filter packet, resulting in a unified product. 6 These filters are assembled securely using a circular polyurethane gasket. Adsortion and desodorization 0 ¿Why molecular filtration? INFORMA- TION In the industrial world, molecular pollution represents a major threat since the air we breathe is inevitably po- lluted by invisible chemical pollution. 1 Industry, vehicles and places where energy is generated emit chemicals that continually challenge our environ- PRE- ment. Inside buildings or in work and leisure places, people are exposed to chemical pollutants, these can be FILTERS dispersed and cause environmental dyears in wide areas, in addition to harming people and the environment in general, air pollution can cause irreversible dyears to seemingly inert objects, such as museum artifacts and 2 paintings. Control mechanisms 6 There are different processes involved in the general removal mechanism of gas or vapor molecules from the EQUIP- air. It is important to understand how they are involved in each application and how they can be positively or ne- MENTS gatively influenced by other factors. In all applications it is essential for an effective solution to have a material with a high internal surface area, a suitable pore structure and an appropriate surface chemistry. 7 Factors that affect to the performance MOTORS AND - Raw material - Temperature TURBINES - RH - Concentration 8 - Impregnated media Venfilter ADSOR- Tel +34 937 862 607 TION AND Fax +34 937 862 493 DEODO- RIZATION 9 [email protected] 243 INTER- www.venfilter.com NATONAL REGU- LATION

0 Adsortion and desodorization INFORMA- TION General Information 1 Activated charcoal, which is practically pure charcoal with an enormous porosity, is able to trap certain types of molecules in its walls due to a physiochemical phenomenon known as ‘adsorption’. In this process, the activated PRE- charcoal is the ‘adsorbent’ and the molecule retained is the ‘adsorbate’. In order to be effectively adsorbed into an FILTERS activated charcoal material, an adsorbate must have the following characteristics: 2 (a) It must be able to fit inside the charcoal pores. (b) The diameter of the molecule must not be less than 20% of the diameter of the majority of the PAINTING activated charcoal pores. BOOTHS (c) It must have a molecular weight greater than 55. (d) Be non-polar or only slightly polar. 3 Most organic compounds fulfil these requirements, which is why activated charcoal is used in gas and liquid purifi- cation processes, where the contaminants are organic molecules. COMFORT PRODUCTS In the case of gas purification, the possibility exists of subjecting the charcoal to a treatment that allows it to re- tain molecules that do not fulfil these characteristics (a), (b) and (c), as in the case of mineral acids (hydrochloric, 4 sulphuric, nitric, phosphoric, etc.), ammonia, low-molecular weight amines, formaldehyde, isopropyl alcohol, mer- cury, etc. The treatment consists of binding a reagent to the surface of the charcoal, which then reacts with the molecule to be retained. This means that the activated charcoal provides the surface area and the retention is made by chemical adsorption or ‘chemisorption’. Applications EPA/HEPA Air conditioning /ULPA Solvent recovery Industrial pollution control 5 Vehicle canisters Masks HIGH Kitchen hoods TEMPERA- Compressed air purification Refrigerator deodorisation TURE Hydrogen purification (retaining hydrocarbons and organic chlorides) Helium purification 6 Acetylene purification (retaining arsine, phosphine, stibine or benzene) Carbon monoxide purification (retaining toluene) Carbon dioxide purification (retaining benzene toluene from compressor oil) EQUIP- Charcoal Particle Size MENTS 7 Activated charcoal may be manufactured in three different manners, in accordance with its form: Granular MOTORS Pelletized AND Powdered In air and gas purification the first and second forms are used, in the following sizes: TURBINES 4x10 for beds with over 5 cm. thickness 12x20, 14x30 for beds with thicknesses between 2 and 5 cm (e.g. masks) 8 In the case of pellet charcoal: 3 or 4 mm in diameter, for beds with thicknesses over 5 cm. ADSOR- Less than 3 mm for with thicknesses between 2 and 5 cm. Adsortion and desodorization 0 Conditions that reduce adsorption capacity INFORMA- TION High Temperature High humidity levels (relative to air) 1 Moisture in the charcoal PRE- Adsorber Design Parameters FILTERS Surface speed of air or gas: must be between 10 and 30 m per min. 2 Contact time: divide the volume of the charcoal bed (litres) by the volumetric air or gas flow (litres per min.). Recommended rates: PAINTING 0.1 second. Low concentrations BOOTHS 2 to 7 seconds. Other cases Hourly renewals: 6 to 30 air changes in order to maintain a well-ventilated location. 3 Index adsorption capacity of activated charcoal in gas phase COMFORT PRODUCTS Of the pollutants listed, some are specific chemical compounds. Others represent a class of compounds and others are mixtures of a variable composition. The capacity of the activated charcoal for odors varies with respect to their 4 concentration, in addition to air humidity and temperature. EPA/HEPA A= High capacity (the charcoal retains 20% to 50% of its weight). /ULPA B= Satisfactory capacity (retains 10% to 25% of its weight). C= Sufficient capacity to provide proper service under specific operational conditions, which must be analysed. 5 D= Low capacity. The activated charcoal does not provide a proper service under ordinary operational conditions.
