_AyJ 183_OK 27/7/09 09:22 Página 115 Distinguished with the title of “Sir”, Anthony Caro is unquestionably one of the benchmark figures in 20 th century sculpture. Just like other great artists of his day, this British sculptor has applied his fascination with large industrial metallic bulks to his work, assembling them in his sculptures using a fully humanistic discourse. His tiny pieces of jewellery also draw from this particular scale of values, taking on a similar dimension to his sculptures in terms of both size and the values they convey. The items shown on these pages are from the latest collection, the second one that Caro has created for the Grassy de Madrid jewellery shop. Most of them are in 18-carat gold, although a few are made of silver. They are all unique and were crafted in Francisco Pacheco’s Madrid studio. The collection includes a total of 19 signed and certified pieces, just like the first collection, which was unveiled in 2006. Caro feels especially comfortable with the more personal perspective that jewellery brings him, which is also like a breath of fresh air compared to his huge monumental sculptures which have been on display this past winter in museums in Calais, Gravelines and Dunkirk. Como otros grandes de su tiempo, el artista británico ha aplicado a su trabajo la fascinación por las grandes moles metálicas industriales, que ensambla en sus obras bajo todo un discurso humanista. Sus pequeñas piezas de joyería beben también de esta peculiar escala de valores, adquiriendo una dimensión similar, tanto en volumen como en transmisión de valores, a sus obras escultóricas. Las piezas que se muestran en estas páginas corresponden a la última y segunda colección creada por Caro para la joyería Grassy de Madrid, la mayoría en oro de 18 quilates, aunque existe también un pequeño número en plata. Todas ellas son únicas y han sido realizadas en el taller de Francisco Pacheco de Madrid.
