I, Varun Sharma feel honored to be the HEAD ofsynergy group (Electronics Society of MGM) for the year2015-16 . I would like to extend a special thanks to Mr.S. Vamshi Krishna , HOD (EC) to provide me such anopportunity, who has been the strongest supporter andmotivation source for me. The honor of being a part ofsuch an adorable society which simply shapes thegoodness into excellence and takes on new challengeswith desirable outcomes was a bless .The support ofteachers, faculty members and cooperation of studentswas totally commendable.I would like to thank my classmates who have directlyor indirectly supported me in achieving the goals duringthe whole year. It was a great experience to be a part ofsuch a workshop and such a society where knowledgedoesn't have any end.

Being a part of synergy society that incorporates the blendof electronics and robotics to pave the importance ofrobotics in the field of excellence was eventually aflourishing endeavor with a felicitous perception. The affection and patients served by the juniors was surelyrecommendable. A special gratitude to all the participantswho took active participation in all the activities andworkshop conducted throughout the entire session. An appreciation to all the other members of synergy societywho conducted the workshop with an ease. The workshopended on an exciting note. The synergy society served as a mark of excellence in thefield of robotics since last few years and being a part ofsuch a group was surely a source of exaggeration. The splendid work conducted by synergy members may itbe the workshop or other activities was truly exciting andknowledgeable. The 5 day workshop on fire bird V was fun to conduct andexplore the knowledge of student. The best part of the workshop was the programming partwhich was quite interesting. The anticipation and curiosity of the students marked thesuccess of successful workshop that ended with lots of fun.

The initiation of Texas instrumentation this year was surelya thrill to watch and being a member of it was a privilege. The 3 days’ workshop conducted under Texasinstrumentation was full of excitement where a new modulenamed MSP 430 was handed over to the student's and theexperienced guides made their presence prominent.Lots of programs were made to run throughout the workshopthat supported MSP 430.The workshop started with lotsof excitement and ended with the same. I am a very happy member of Synergy, when I had joined this team I didn’t know much about robotics but in a few days with the cooperation of the seniors and our HOD we were provided full knowledge about it and we got a platform for doing our projects. I am still working on Fire Bird 5 and have attended various workshops on robotics. I really appreciate the members of Synergy who help juniors like us.

The best part of Synergy is that all the members arecooperative and give their best efforts in all thework. I want to especially thank Varun Sharma,Head of Synergy who was very enthusiastic andsupported every member in every manner during theworkshops and events.

C-S department  Winners Blueprint For Achievement  Amazing facts about India  Teachers  What is net neutrality and why it is important in India

Amazing facts about India1. Vinod Dahm invented Pentium chip (90% of computers run on it).2. Sabeer Bhatia created Hotmail.3. 38% of doctors in USA are Indians.4. 12% of scientists in USA are Indians.5. 36% of NASA scientists are Indians.6. 34% of Microsoft employees are Indian.7. 28%of IBM employees are Indian.8. 17% of INTEL scientists are Indians.9. 13%of XEROX employees are Indian.10.The famous board game, CHESS, was invented in India.

Net neutrality may not sound like a familiar term to many and you may also wonder whatis wrong if someone wants to offer a service for free, but even if you are not on the interneta lot, it is important for you. By definition, Net neutrality means that Internet serviceproviders should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, andwithout favouring or blocking particular products or websites. What is net neutrality?Net neutrality means Internet that allows everyone to communicate freely. It means aservice provider should allow access to all content and applications regardless of the sourceand no websites or pages should be blocked, as long as they aren’t illegal. It’s like a fixed-telephone line, which is equal to all, and no one gets to decide who you call or what youspeak. Another aspect of net neutrality is level playing field on the internet. This means, all websites can co-exist without hampering others. All websites are accessible at the samespeed and no particular website of application is favoured. For instance – like electricity, common for all. Net neutrality also means all web sites and content creators are treatedequal, and you don’t have to pay extra for faster Internet speed to a particular site/service.

Why should I bother or what will happen if there is no net neutrality? To put it out straight, if there is no net neutrality, the Internet won’t function as we’veknown it too. It will mean Internet Service Providers (ISP) will be able to charge companieslike YouTube or Netflix as they consume more bandwidth, and eventually the load of theextra sum will be pushed to the consumers. Similarly, ISPs can then create slow as well asfast Internet lanes, which will mean all websites cannot be accessed at the same speed andone can do so only on paying an additional sum.Net Neutrality is extremely important for small business owners, startups andentrepreneurs, who can simply launch their businesses online, advertise the products andsell them openly, without any discrimination. It is essential for innovation and creating jobopportunities. Big companies like Google, Twitter and several others are born out of netneutrality. How activists have been fighting for it in the west?Net neutrality isn’t something new and many activists have been battling to achieve it inthe west.In 2010, FCC had passed an order to prevent broadband Internet service providers fromblocking or meddling with the traffic on the Web. Known as the ‘Open Internet Order’, itensured the Internet remained a level playing field for all.

However, in 2014, the court said the FCC lacked the authority to do so and enforce rules. This means, telecom companies who were earlier forced to follow the rules pf net neutralitystarted adopting unruly ways. This also paved way for ISPs to monitor data on theirnetworks and also allowing governments to ban or block data. Besides banning or blockingdata, we also jad the high profile Netflix-Comcast tussle.Recently, FCC has approved “net neutrality” rules that prevent Internet providers such asComcast and Verizon from slowing or blocking Web traffic or from creating Internet fastlanes that content providers such as Netflix must pay for. European Union member stateshave also been striving for net neutrality. No more a thing of the west – Net neutrality in IndiaTaking the recent events into account, its time net neutrality is imposed in India too.Since the past couple of years, the instances of Internet censorship in India have increasedmanifold. In 2011, India adopted the new ‘IT Rules 2011’ that supplemented the IT Act2000. These rules made it mandatory for Internet intermediaries to remove objectionablecontent within 36 hours of receiving complaint. But the terms included were vague andopen to interpretations. These rules received sharp criticism, but they have prevailed. In2011, government also drew flak as it asked major sites like Google, Facebook and Yahooto ‘pre-screen’ content and remove any objectionable, defamatory content from goinglive.Government requests for banning content has also been on rise over the past couple ofyears.

On the other hand, with the increasing popularity of instant messaging apps likeWhatsApp, Viber and others, telcos had started making noise against the acceleratedadoption of these services. Throughout last year, they’ve have been quite vocal about theirdislike for over-the-top (OTT) services, who have been cannibalizing their main revenuestreams – calls and SMSes.There was buzz around a fee being imposed on popular OTT services, but the matterfizzled out soon after TRAI rejected telcos’ proposal to do so. In a bid to make up for thelosing revenue, Airtel decided to play evil Santa on Christmas 2014 and announced anextra charge on making VoIP calls. The Twitterati had gone all out condeming Airtel forthe act, and the service provider had to soon retract its decision. Net neutrality got yetanother blow in India with the recent announcements from Reliance and Airtel. In India, Facebook has teamed up with Reliance Communications in an effort to bringInternet.org to smartphone as well as feature phone users. But at the Mobile WorldCongress, telecom service providers such as Vodafone, Airtel and Telenor have made theirdiscomfort clear when it comes to offering free Internet services over expensive telecomnetworks.

Mr. Nishant Gupta Training & Placement OfficerThe students should have a design-thinking process sothat the innovations can be done. They should always tryfor the self-improvement. Don't try to give reasons, wewould be more happier and successful if we stopped givingreasons for everything.

Net neutrality is an idea derived from how telephone lines have worked sincethe beginning of the 20th century. In case of a telephone line, you can dial anynumber and connect to it. It does not matter if you are calling from operator Ato operator B. It doesn't matter if you are calling a restaurant or a drug dealer. The operators neither block the access to a number nor deliberately delayconnection to a particular number, unless forced by the law. Most of thecountries have rules that ask telecom operators to provide an unfiltered andunrestricted phone service. When the internet started to take off in 1980s and 1990s, there were nospecific rules that asked that internet service providers (ISPs) should followthe same principle. But, mostly because telecom operators were also ISPs, theyadhered to the same principle. This principle is known as net neutrality. An ISPdoes not control the traffic that passes its servers. When a web user connectsto a website or web service, he or she gets the same speed. Data rate forYouTube videos and Facebook photos is theoretically same. Users can access anylegal website or web service without any interference from an ISP.Some countries have rules that enforce net neutrality but most don't. Instead, the principle is followed because that is how it has always been. It is more of anorm than a law.How did net neutrality shape the internet?Net neutrality has shaped the internet in two fundamental ways. One, web users are free to connect to whatever website or service they want.ISPs do not bother with what kind of content is flowing from their servers. Thishas allowed the internet to grow into a truly global network and has allowedpeople to freely express themselves. For example, you can criticize your ISP on

a blog post and the ISP will not restrict access to that post for its othersubscribers even though the post may harm its business. But more importantly, net neutrality has enabled a level playing field on theinternet. To start a website, you don't need lot of money or connections. Justhost your website and you are good to go. If your service is good, it will findfavour with web users. Unlike the cable TV where you have to forge allianceswith cable connection providers to make sure that your channel reaches viewers,on internet you don't have to talk to ISPs to put your website online. What will happen if there is no net neutrality? If there is no net neutrality, ISPswill have the power (and inclination)to shape internet traffic so thatthey can derive extra benefit fromit.Without net neutrality, theinternet as we know it will notexist. Instead of free access, there could be \"package plans\" forconsumers.Lack of net neutrality, will also spell doom for innovation on the web. It ispossible that ISPs will charge web companies to enable faster access to theirwebsites.Instead of an open and free internet, without net neutrality we are likely to geta web that has silos in it and to enter each silo, you will have to pay some \"tax\"to ISPs.

What is the state of net neutrality in India?Legally, the concept of net neutralitydoesn't exist in India. Sunil Abraham, director of Centre for internet andSociety in Bangalore, says that Trai, which regulates the telecom industry, hastried to come up with some rulesregarding net neutrality several times. For example it invited comments on theconcept of net neutrality from industry bodies and stakeholders in 2006. Butno formal rules have been formed to uphold and enforce net neutrality. Will the concept of net neutrality survive?Net neutrality is sort ofgentlemen's agreement. It hassurvived so far because fewpeople realized the potentialof internet when it took offaround 30 years ago. But nowwhen the internet is anintegral part of the societyand incredibly important, ISPsacross the world are trying toget the power to shape and control the traffic. But there are ways to keep netneutrality alive. SHUBHAM DHARIYAL ST-CS(B)

Ola Amigos! Here in India, we usually have a knack for using a windows operating system(OS).Apart from few exceptions, people find it more user friendly and customizable, right? That's not true. Most people use it because 'everyone' uses it and also, wecan’t afford a MacBook. We do not give any other OS even a thought. In fact, formost of us, no other OS exists. The reason is simple: Microsoft and Applehave got their products as mainstream in the market. They employ hugeinvestments to ensure it stays that way. As a result, all we hear isWindows and Mac OS. But there are alternatives.Just so you know, I am not writing this to solve a problem thatdoesn't exist. You must be thinking why do we even need analternative. Well, I have come across an awful lot of peoplewhining about their system not working properly. Every now andthen their system is infected, in addition to that it slows down remarkably as compared when it was bought.Yes, I am talking about Windows users. The list of problems is long and we will get to that but first thingsfirst.Earlier I mentioned alternatives with an 's' but Linux is just one OS, right? No. It comes in 'Distros' which isshort for distributions. Meaning there are different OS's to choose from. They all are Linux but people mayuse one or more according to their comfy. Examples being Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, etc. Theimportant part to know before we move is that Linux is Free (Open Source). No huge investments, noadvertisement. Isn't that just a little sad. An OS that is used by Tech Giants like Google, Facebook, Twitter,Amazon, NASA (Yeah! You read it right), and many more is definitely worth an advertisement. Now, let’s see how we, the Windows users, can solve our problem using Linux:

P1. My system is again infected with virus. Let me know about a good anti-virus.( Arre bhai phir atakne laga. Ye virus aata kaha se hai?)S. Linux doesn't need an anti-virus because there is no virus for it. Maybe, in rarest of rare cases, you mightfind your system infected. This will not only save you the trouble of formatting the system, finding an anti-virus on torrent (Pirated? Haww!!: Attack on conscience) or buying one but also the time and data loss in allthis imbroglio. On top of that you also get frequent security updates from Distro developers.P2. This software/service isn't working. Error message says something about driver.(Yaar mera bluetooth/wifi/sound/... nahi chal raha. Ab ye driver kya hai?)S. Linux Distros come with a wide range of drivers pre-installed. Once the OS installs, everything you need todo your usual chores, like reading all sorts of documents, using all kinds of services, etc, installs with it. Youdo not need to go on a search spree for drivers.P3. My laptop's hardware specification is too low to run the latest Windows.(Bhai mera system purana hai. XP chalaye na?)S. Linux Distros work more efficiently on older machines than Windows. You can run latest versions of OS onyour dear old systems. They are light and more importantly consistent.P4. I constantly have to reboot my system because of crashes/software problems.(Bhai ye phir crash kar gya. Main kya karu. Mera kaam ruka pada hai.)S. People who have faced this problem can understand the pain. I have. You can't always control whathappens to your PC. Even Linux isn't perfect but it is stable. It can run for years without needing to reboot orshutdown. Most servers run on Linux for the same reason. Of course with heavy updates it might need areboot.P5. The system is way more slow than when I bought it. Why?(Shuru me makhan chalta tha, ab to double click karke main nahane chala jaata hu.)S. Guess what? Linux works as fast as when I installed it a year ago. Not just me, people all over the internetwould tell you that. Folks have been running it for years now. As mentioned earlier, there are no viruses, adwares, trojans, worms, etc.

Above are the common problems that we face usually. Now, there are a lot of people who don't. I know them, Iam one of them. I know how to keep my Windows OS up and running. Still I went for Linux and I want toshare why:I am a CS student who loved to code for more than five years or so. I have been pursuing engineering for thepast three and a half years. In all of those years I never had a better understanding of how my laptop, otherdevices, and networks work until I practiced working on Linux. It is open source which means the source codeof the kernel is for you to read, edit and share. You can do things you wouldn't have dreamed of doing inthose costly OS's. You have freedom to learn and explore and find out how things work by doing and notfruitless mugging. Whether coder or not, trust me, you need it. Terminal, the cmd of Linux, is a boon for us.It lets you manipulate everything, from defining functions to keys to changing the whole view and frommaking connections to hacking networks, through its endless range of commands and scripts. It will notdefine what you can and cannot do, it will do what you command it to. Needless to say, non-CS studentsshould go for too. They constitute larger number of people having issues with Windows. You might be wondering how come all pros and no cons. Well, there are some shortcomings. It can causedisappointment if:You are avid gamer. The heavy gaming support yet is not as good as in Windows yet.You need a proprietary software that isn't available for Open Source.Your hardware is not yet supported. In these cases, dual booting comes into play. Meaning you can run Windows and Linux on the same harddrive simultaneously. There are tutorials available on the Internet on how to do that. Now that you are convinced (I like to think that), I hope you try Linux and enjoy it more than you enjoy youBFF's lame jokes.Peace. Human Implant MicrochipI am disturbed that the identification and clothing of our public officials is so easilyreproduced, well said by Louise Slaughter. Recently, a news was viral about a humanmicrochip Implant. A human microchip Implant is an identifying integrated circuitdevice or RFTD transponder enclosed in silicate glass and implanted in the body of ahuman being. A sub dermal implant typically contains a unique ID number that can belinked to information contained in an external database, such as Personal Identificationand contact information. In an dystopian sci-fi vision of the future, human are often microchip so they can be controlled to do everything from homework to controlling crime. Today the futuristic vision becomes a reality during an event at IFA in Berlin. A volunteer attending security from Kaspersky’s conference had a chip implanted into his hand that can potentially unlock. It is thelatest in growing moment called biohacking in which people implant chips into theirbodies to perform simple tasks such chips can be bought online for under $152 andIntrepid user can even insert themselves using a sizeable needle that comes with a kit. Atthe moment, it is quite limited, Mr.Preuss admitted but in the future, users may be ableto wave their hand in front of a pay terminal to buy goods in shops or many more. Sincenearly all implantable microchips are encrypted, they are extremely vulnerable to beingread by third-party scanner.By scanning secretly someone could steal the information of a chip and clone the signal, enabling that person to impersonate a chipped individual. If people are going to use thisit should be not hack able something like that. SONY ATWAL (ST-ME)
