A\tcritical\texamination\tof\tsome\tof\tthe\tlower\tstrata\tdemonstrated\tthe\tpresence of\tfossil\tants\tand\ttumble-bugs\t(the\tlatter\taccompanied\tby\ttheir\tpeculiar\tgoods), and\t with\t high\t gratification\t the\t fact\t was\t enrolled\t upon\t the\t scientific\t record;\t for this\twas\tproof\tthat\tthese\tvulgar\tlaborers\tbelonged\tto\tthe\tfirst\tand\tlowest\torders of\tcreated\tbeings,\tthough\tat\tthe\tsame\ttime\tthere\twas\tsomething\trepulsive\tin\tthe reflection\tthat\tthe\tperfect\tand\texquisite\tcreature\tof\tthe\tmodern\tuppermost\torder owed\t its\t origin\t to\t such\t ignominious\t beings\t through\t the\t mysterious\t law\t of Development\tof\tSpecies. a\t horse.\t With\t great\t labor\t its\t loose\t skin\t was removed,\t whereupon\t its\t body\t was\t discovered\t to\t be\t of\t a\t polished\t white\t texture, thoroughly\t petrified.\t The\t these\t extinct\t animals\t and\t of\t the\t young\t of\t Man's\t own\t species,\t split\t lengthwise, showing\t that\t to\t his\t taste\t the\t marrow\t was\t a\t toothsome\t luxury.\t It\t was\t plain\t that Man\t had\t robbed\t those\t bones\t of\t their\t contents,\t since\t no\t toothmark\t of\t any\t beast
