Preface IMAX partners with schools, supporting them with learning materials and processes that are all crafted to work together as an interconnected system to drive learning. IMAX presents the latest version of the Summit series – specially crafted as an accompanying workbook series for the Maharashtra state board textbooks. The Summit series endeavours to be faithful to the spirit of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 in conjunction with the content covered and approach adopted in the Maharashtra state board textbooks. The Class 1 workbooks are based on the latest edition of the Class 1 textbooks released for the academic year 2018-19. A close mapping has been undertaken to ensure that the workbooks support and add value to the textbook content. The aim of the NCF 2005 regarding Mathematics teaching is to develop the abilities of a student to think and reason mathematically, pursue assumptions to their logical conclusion and handle abstraction. Below are some salient features of the Summit Maths workbooks series: Student engagement through simple, age-appropriate language Word problems based on real-life scenarios, which help students to relate Mathematics to their everyday experiences Appropriate space allotted to solve each question All textbook questions that require space for writing have been included Overall, the IMAX Summit series aims to enhance logical reasoning and critical thinking skills that are at the heart of Mathematics teaching and learning. – The Authors Summit_Maths_G1_Workbook_Part 2.indb 2 8/10/2018 7:05:11 PM

9.1 Higher Order Thinking Skills (H.O.T.S.) Short Answer Question 14) T here are 100 steps in Kohli’s apartment. He kept a candle on step 1, another candle on step 11 and the next candle on step 22. He continues keeping candles like this and keeps the last candle on step 100. How many candles has he kept from the steps of 1 to 100? Solution: Total number of steps = 100 = ______ tens He kept one candle on step 1, another candle on step 11, the next candle on step 22 and so on. He keeps the last candle on step 100. As there are 10 tens, he kept _______ candles. He also kept one candle on the last step. So, the total number of candles he keeps = _________ + ________ = = _______ candles So, Kohli keeps _______ candles in 100 steps.
