The previous range ball contract was up for renewal. The European Tour approached us along with other brands including the previous incumbent and explained they were looking to put together a very different package to what had been available before. If it had just been a straight ball deal it wouldn’t have made enough sense for us. But, based on our recent acquisitions of the OGIO & TravisMathew brands alongside the Callaway and Odyssey brands it was a case of right place, right time, right platform to help us communicate the full portfolio of brands to a huge audience.”And it’s safe to say this is not just a ball agreement. Callaway’s presence on the European Tour will be far-reaching over the next five years. Nick listed off an impressive roll call of Callaway product positioning on the European Tour.“Chrome Soft is the new official range ball, Epic Flash is the official driver, Odyssey is the official putter, Callaway is the official golf bag, Callaway is the official shoe of the European Tour. Travis Matthew and Callaway Apparel are both the official on course apparel for the European Tour, and Ogio is the official luggage for the European Tour.”While there were obvious benefits for Callaway, the European Tour were equally keen on the partnership.“From the European Tour’s perspective, Keith Pelley (European Tour CEO) came back to us and said he loves our product but was just as excited about the opportunities to collaborate on content as he felt we were both leaders in our respective areas, pinpointing the Golf Lives content “51londongolf.co.uk

as an example of how to bring golf to a non-traditional audience. Callaway has grown consistently over the last few years, and whilst retail customers are fully aware of the brand’s performance and innovation strength across all product categories, there is still work to be done with the average golfer to ensure the message gets across. “Odyssey regularly has more than 50% of players using one of their putters each week on the European Tour with the vast majority using it without payment because they feel it gives them the best chance of winning. We This is a long-term investment from both ourselves and from the European Tour. We need to make sure that we don’t just approach this as “another project” and ensure we make the most of every opportunity it presents. Together with the European Tour we aim to make golf more fun and wider reaching than it is today. By developing our campaigns and communicating with millions of golfers (and current non-golfers), our goal is to get people excited about golf …and that excitement should lead to footfall through our retail partners doors which will be great news for all of us ! Chip Brewer - Callaway Golf President and CEO Two brands, one family52londongolf.co.uk

want to make sure that message gets out to as many people as possible which is why Odyssey is featured weekly on the European Tour leaderboards, and we have also collaborated on a number of content pieces with European Tour TV to both help launch the Partnership at the start of the year, as well as a season long content campaign featuring our Staff Professionals in a unique series of Tour Tips. “The European Tour can reach upwards of 12 million people for a single campaign. Compare that to the number of golfers that there are in Europe and you’re almost hitting every single golfer. With TV audiences in the tens of thousands and YouTube views in the hundreds type Leaderboard. So far more of thousands, then we are hugely positive about just how many people we can reach through this exciting platform.Another exciting consumer platform is the Callaway Shootout, due to visit 10 European Tour events in 2019, where pairs compete for the longest drive and nearest the pin on a specially designed simulator. It’s fun, it’s simple, it’s competitive and there’s a team element, where joint scores are entered onto a Tournament Leaderboard, with the top ten longest and most accurate teams featuring on a “Race to Dubai” than 12,000 people have taken part, with over 24,000 shots being hit. It’s a way for Callaway to show people – whether they’re golfers or not – that golf is fun, golf is accessible, and Callaway offers something for all of them. It’s been a big hit with our Staff players too, joining in and taking on fans (and each other!), giving tips, doing Q&As, and that content has been captured for video and social media. For a fan going to a European Tour event, this kind of experience really brings it to life.53londongolf.co.uk

WHEN TOURNAMENT STANDARDSBECOME THE NORMBernhard and Company’s long-standing experience in major tournaments (Ryder Cup, PGA Tour, European Tour) helps bring these standards to your golf course. Dull mowers do not provide quality of cut. Sharpening systems give golf courses the ability to implement a top-dressing programme and sustain low risk and long-term maintenance practices. Air, or the lack of it, and excess moisture are also major factors limiting turf health. Through new technologies and Bernhard and Company’s knowledge, we help provide appropriate airflow on the surface of the grass cooling down the canopy and reducing soil temperatures, controlling humidity and removing excess moisture. At a time when chemicals are being scrutinised, there are alternative ways that can help provide the healthiest grass to enhance both presentation and playability. These require optimal conditions of air, light and nutrition, which can be achieved through the right equipment and knowing how to use it.As golfers, we want firmer, smoother, truer and faster greens. Better presentation and playability are not reserved to professional golfers anymore. Turf health is the goal of every greenkeeper or superintendent in order to provide the best presentation of the golf course. 68londongolf.co.uk

73EUROPE WINS SOLHEIM CUP AFTER SENSATIONAL FINISHlondongolf.co.ukStaged by IMG, the event took place at Gleneagles, Scotland, from 9th to 15th September 2019.Europe won The Solheim Cup for the first time since 2013 after an incredible finish to the final day singles, which ended with Suzann Pettersen holing the decisive putt on the 18th green to send the thousands of fans into raptures.

75Team USA looked set to retain the trophy when they needed a half point from any of the final three matches, but Europe won all of them to secure a sensational victory. With Anna Nordqvist closing out a 4&3 win over Morgan Pressel and Bronte Law beating Ally McDonald 2&1 in the final two groups in the minutes preceding, Pettersen and Marina Alex were both on the 18th green and with makeable putts for birdie.Alex missed and Pettersen, one of Captain Catriona Matthew’s wildcard picks, stepped up and rolled in an eight-footer to give Europe the point they needed to get to the all-important 14 .½Team Europe went wild; the Americans were stunned. All day the momentum swung either way, with Carlota Ciganda beating Danielle Kang on the last in the top group followed by Nelly Korda putting some red on the board with a two-hole win over Caroline Hedwall. The next two points went to Europe, Georgia Hall defeating world number three Lexi Thompson and Celine Boutier seeing off Annie Park 2&1. Devastating as a pair, Hall and Boutier showed they could produce the goods individually too as both secured their fourth point from four matches this week. The middle order matches all went America’s way and put them on the brink of a triumph which would have been Juli Inkster’s third in a row as Captain. First Angel Yin beat Azahara Munoz in the fifth match, then Meghan Khang won the 18th hole to claim a half from Charley Hull.Next up was Lizette Salas who downed Anne Van Dam by one hole, and there were easy wins for Jessica Korda, 3&2 against Caroline Masson, and Brittany Altomare, 5&4 over Jodi Ewart Shadoff.Team USA, on 13 points, were preparing to pop the ½champagne corks on the 18th green, but a dramatic finish then ensued as the final three Europeans completed a remarkable comeback.Pettersen, whose selection by Matthew last month raised eyebrows because of her lack of competitive action since having her son at the end of 2017, struggled to hold in the emotion after winning the Solheim Cup for her team.londongolf.co.uk

76USA Captain Juli Inkster was philosophical after the narrow defeat, saying: The Europeans played great. You tip your hat.We had a few tears. And I said it’s okay. But the bottom line is we had a great week, the Europeans played great and we’re going to have a great party. The sun’s going to come up tomorrow. This will give them the fuel and fire for another two years to work at their game, to be on that team, to try to get that Cup back. I just said, ‘Hold your heads up because you should not be disappointed.londongolf.co.ukThe Solheim Cup

77Pettersen, whose selection by Matthew last month raised eyebrows because of her lack of competitive action since having her son at the end of 2017, struggled to hold in the emotion after winning the Solheim Cup for her team. Can you ask for more? The last putt to win the Cup, when it’s that close? History was just made, to win here in front of the Scottish crowd, to be here most of all. I could never in a million years dream of this.I mean, to hole the winning putt, to win the Cup. Nothing beats The Solheim Cup in my career.I honestly didn’t know when I stood over the putt that that was to win it. It was left centre and I couldn’t have hit it any better. I’m on the best team ever.londongolf.co.uk

For the 21st Century88londongolf.co.ukCraftinga LuxuryWatchBrandAs a small boy, Alexandre Meerson would often sit at the kitchen table of his Paris apartment designing watches. “Watch design is an intricate business” says Alexandre. “Consider the shape of the lugs, the weight of the watch on the wrist. Each intricate detail combines to create a piece of wearable art”.

89Alexandre had more than a little help in his watch design education from his father, the well-known watchmaker Emerich Meerson. Fast-forward to 2007, and design process truly collaborative, son Alexandre had no doubt about launching his own brand after a successful career with some of the most iconic luxury brands in the world. Working with iconic brands belonging to LVMH and Richemont honed his industry knowledge, but watch design remained his true passion. In the digital age of smart watches and instant celebrity, some questioned the younger Meerson whether luxury watches are still relevant. For Alexandre, the answer is unquestionably yes. “While a well-designed watch is beautiful enough to do credit to any museum, the luxury watch market is still one of the most vibrant and exciting out there. Our challenge is to take the opportunities of 21st century engineering and communication. We want to use them to create a brand-new kind of watch company”.When deciding where his watches should be made, there was no hesitation. “Switzerland is still the undisputed land of watch-making excellence” says Meerson. “Each of our watches is hand-crafted by up to 80 Swiss artisans. That type of expertise and tradition made it impossible for me to choose any other manufacturing location, except maybe for Japan.” “However, we have taken advantage of advantage of modern creation techniques wherever we can. For example, one of the benefits for clients of working directly with a watch designer is the unparalleled level of personalisation we can offer. Clients have asked us to use their artworks and even cars as inspiration, creating a timepiece that is truly unique to them. Working with augmented reality and other design visualisation techniques helps us make the and choosing the right watch a real pleasure.”This single-minded focus on design excellence has led to fans around the world. One such admirer is a Florida-based founder of a highly successful software solutions company. “I had been searching for an exceptional timepiece, an heirloom, for years. Yet I never found anything that justified the money, based on the quality of build. With Meerson however, it was different. After discovering the vast amount of design integrity that each European, we have seen a lot of collection holds, I was overwhelmed by how truly special each piece that the house creates is.”As an avid pilot, his choice for daily wear is one of his two Meerson D15 watches. “I love the D15’s dual time zone functionality. I keep the 24hr time zone on GMT all the time and then adjust to the local time zone when I land using the pushers. It is just an awesome feature.”Working with clients such as this has been a key source of inspiration to Alexandre. “I design watches for truly extraordinary women and men, people who create their own luck, and have forged a destiny led by curiosity and humility.” Digital media has also been a big part of the picture, according to Alexandre. “Meerson in some ways is the first luxury brand born on the internet. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, these are all places we can be ourselves and share our story. People think of the Internet as a mass medium, but it can also be extremely intimate. Apps such as WhatsApp and WeChat allow us to engage in one-to-one communication with clients around the world”.So what is next? Alexandre is excited for the upcoming year, in particular the women’s market and the US. “We’ve been looking closely at the women’s market since 2017” Alexandre says. “Social media allowed us to bring together a group of extraordinary women as inspiration for our new collection. I can’t wait to see the response to our launch in the Fall”. As for the USA, Meerson has opened a New York office with plans for a popup retail space. “Even though our heritage and styling are success in the US. We are excited to be able to spend more time with clients, especially in New York and Florida. We are living our own American Dream”.meerson.comlondongolf.co.uk

92Members and their guests were greeted upon arrival in the Great Hall by our events team before heading upstairs to the Long Bar to enjoy the seasonal food prepared by our chefs. The menu featured mains such as mini jacket potatoes and mini cheese and bacon burgers accompanied by mulled wine and hot chocolate, and for dessert toffee apple popcorn and hot sugared doughnuts. Throughout the evening, live music filled the Clubhouse thanks to musician Thom Morley. Children were treated to free glow sticks and face painting by The Painting Pixie. They could also enjoy colouring firework themed pictures at our activity station. After dinner, the members and their guests were directed to the Long Bar terrace, where they could view the fantastic display from Flashpoint Fireworks. 96Last year Heart of Kent Hospice cared for 1,587 patients and their families. We understand that our patients and their loved ones all have different needs. Whether they are physical, emotional, psychological or social, we tailor the care and support we provide. Our team of counsellors, welfare advisors, social workers, chaplains and volunteers are on hand to support our nurses and medical professionals 365 days a year. Our services are completely free and as an independent charity the Hospice has to raise £4 out of every £5 to provide its services. There are many different ways to support our work and raise awareness of the Hospice. For more information about our services please visit our website at www.hokh.co.uklondongolf.co.uk

97We are truly grateful for the generous donation resulting from our Charity of the Year partnership with the London Golf Club. Such generosity could pay for ten patients to receive a face to face visit from our Hospice Community Team. This means that patients receive the support they need in the comfort of their own homes. Thank you so much.Karen Newton-Anker, Community Partnerships Fundraiserlondongolf.co.uk
