THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Rtn. Rtr. Oshadie Wedaarachchi President 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya NEVER, did I imagine becoming the President of the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya during a world-wide pandemic that isolated us in our homes, put us in masks whenever we did venture out. It has caused so much stress in our country and the world, along with the mental anguish of not being able to shake hands, hug, kiss or be socially close to our family and friends. But, here I am, completing a successful Rotaract Year with my team. Despite every challenge we could achieve many successes along with a higher percentage of members in RAC Kelaniya history who hold prominent leadership positions and potential to grow. Our strategic focus was accelerated this year, increasing from quarterly to monthly to weekly projects which impact not only our locality but to every corner of this country. At the first meeting in July, I gave my vision for the year as “Creating Excellence” and proving that we could achieve Rotary Citation for Rotaract for the year 20/21 as the first step in recognition of our service throughout this year in achieving Rotary Goals as well. Carrying forward our DRR’s message “Strive as One” to the world, Rotaract Club of Kelaniya is proud and humbled to complete this year with so many fireworks not only as a proactive community based club but also as the home club for the District Rotaract Representative of the year 20/21. Rotaract Club of Kelaniya has always been a unique and uncommon club that is succeeding with implementing extraordinary results. And we will continue to create that excellence throughout the coming years as well. Yours in Service, Rtn. Rtr. CLUB MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP GROWTH Rotaract Club of Kelaniya Started the year 20/21 with 26 active members and went up 75 to 63 members by the end of the 4th 50 Quarter. 25 Our membership growth rate is 142% 0 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 WHAT DID WE DO People are the driving force of any organization or a country. Attracting the correct people on the correct date for the correct purpose is the secret of any organization with a sustainable plan. We implemented a recruiting practice that maximizes attracting members who will be engaged and minimizes the actively disengaged members. 1. We recruited members in batches. We implemented a rigid and focused screening process for new candidates. This process requires that we carefully determine if a candidate is good at and passionate about their Rotaract career, as well as if they fit within our dynamic culture. All prospective members (by referrals or non- referrals) should submit their CVs to the membership team first and then participate at least one general meeting and a project before they get qualified to the recruitment call. 2. At the recruitment call they will answer certain questions by the membership committee or an Exco member. 3. The questions are mainly focused on their purpose in joining Rotaract Movement and their expectations from the Rotaract movement and paid attention to personal factors, such as their level of motivation to join Rotaract, the level of priority they placed on their career, education and extracurricular activities. Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya Page 14

OUR RECRUITMENTS We identified our geographical strengths and weaknesses. Rotaract club of Kelaniya is not the only community based Rotaract Club in Gampaha district. However, we could reach a membership of 63 by the end of the year. Our first talent acquisition program was “Rotaract Bridge '' in the beginning of the year, conducted by the members of newly appointed District Steering Committee 20/21. The project audience was Interactors in Gampaha District as well as the other different areas in the country. That was the first of them in Rotaract in the year 20/21.With the help of Interact District, we gathered interactors who were nearly planning to leave the movement after their school life. We could successfully build a database where we could lead the interactors who finish their interactive career to successfully cross the bridge and join Rotaract to continue the movement. With the hype of this program, the Interact Clubs in Gampaha District passed the message not only to their members but to the local youth as well. After that our membership started to grow. Kelaniya Aurudu Kumaraya/Kumari was another popular project among our local youth and it is visible with the numbers presented in the project report. Improved Talent On-boarding \"Everyone is born with a talent.\" In our recruitment process we asked them to list down their interests of improvement and talents. This helped us when grouping them to avenue categories and when inviting speakers to professional development programs like TGIR. What is our secret? We never compelled our members to bring members to the club. All the members who we inducted came through referrals. “A Happy member would share his / her happiness with their friends and would invite them to the club”, it is believed and it worked out for us perfectly. Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya Page 15

RETENTION Acquiring 37 members to a community based club in a year where the lockdown was not an easy task After they complete one month within the club we assign them to a team of their preferred avenue so no one is being left behind. We had a philosophy of engaging all team members in important project strategies of the respective avenue and conclusions. This gave each member a feeling of ownership. As a result, they often would have suggestions that would contribute to the project's success. This feeling of ownership and related recognition resulted in a higher level of loyalty throughout the company. A major emphasis was to always involve the newbies in discussions leading to major project decisions. This not only gave them a degree of ownership but also greatly accelerated their growth rate, which, in turn, allowed them to take on responsibilities that would have otherwise been done by senior members. 92% 88% of our members have stated of our members said they that they are happy and enjoy the club activities motivated in Rotaract Club of Kelaniya Our members had every chance to present their project ideas and implement it even though they are new to the club. What's in Store for you, The Rotaract Bridge, The deliberate Reader and even the Project Warada Kothanada were few of those outcomes of that liberty and empowerment they received. We conducted all the general meetings formally on time and set that as a Key performance indicator for the members. An appreciation and rewarding program called Rotaractor of the Month was introduced and measured their performances with 1. The participation to club meetings 2. Completion of a project by meeting project objectives within a given time frame. 3. A special innovation or an innovative idea Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya Page 16

THE KELANIYA EXPERIENCE Rtr. Yasindu Piyarathne Rtr. Pasan Perera Member Member RAC Kelaniya RAC Kelaniya “It was so exciting to take part in “Since I'm not from the Kelaniya amazing projects conducted by the area, joining the Rotaract Club of Rotaract Club of Kelaniya Kelaniya instead of another is throughout the period. From the very much a choice; completing a day I first joined the club, I got the full year in my club confirmed the chance to engage in projects and fact that I made the right one. RAC fun activities associating great Kelaniya exceeded my personalities in the club with expectations of what being in a outstanding skills. Further, the Rotaract Club is like. My personal experience community wellbeing in return. I is whole heartedly positive. I have really appreciate the immense no doubt that I'll get to see my club efforts of club president Rtn. Rtr. reach great heights in the coming Oshadie Wedaarachchi and board years” members for the steps taken to achieve greater heights as one family.” Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya Page 17

NO FUN WAS MISSED Zoom Online mic Night Music can heal the wounds which medicine cannot touch. Our Club service avenue conducted 8+ online mic nights exclusive to the club members to keep our members engaged and increase bonding with each other during the year. We believe it helps to reduce confusion, anger, fear, frustration, boredom or post-traumatic stress caused by the incidents occurred with COVID pandemic. Keltronix Keltronix is the sports team created in September 2020 to engage our members in sports and increase their sportsmanship. We conducted several weekend cricket matches with other clubs in Rotaract District, Badminton matches, online gaming, and Footsal as well as handball practices. It was the desire to improve membership engagement, club culture and staff retention that were considered the greater catalysts. Did we miss the fun part? Apart from the projects we had family Christmas parties and family movie dates which would make our bond stronger. Membership participation to the PD events organized by other clubs was kept at a growth level. District Avenue training Participation was encouraged and covered. TERMINATION There can be many reasons for a member to leave or be inactive in a club. In community service clubs the most common reason we hear is the job-related commitment. Most commonly seen age criteria in a community-based club is 22-26. This is the age where most of the young people are settling with their work life/new job. TERMINATION PROCESS Absence for 3 Deactivate Follow up 2 Reactivate general meetings membership months later for membership after reactivation 2 general meetings Misconduct and Terminate Fail to attend 2 Misbehavior general meetings Respective member will be given a formal letter of accusement and call for excuse. Upon confirmation of termination , the club secretary is required to draft an official letter of termination signed by the Rotaract Club President and the Sponsoring Club President which is to be handed over to the member concerned. Finally the membership status of the member is changed in the RMIS \"Membership is blood that pumps in the heart of the club.\" In corporate organizations it requires a maximum time period or a probation of 6months - 1year to produce a well-trained employee who is aligned with the organization's values. You provide them constructive feedback and let them grow within the organization while nurturing them and that's how you retain them as long term employees. We applied the same principle to the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya as well. And we proudly have a well-groomed membership for the year 2021/2022 to take the club to its better heights. UPCYCLE AND RECYCLE Making a change at the Annual Transition meeting, Rotaract club of Kelaniya took an initiative to appreciate the respective persons worth appreciating for their valuable contribution towards the club in the year 2019/20, with a minimalistic, eco-friendly token of appreciation, where they were gifted with a rose, planted in decorated disposed plastic bottles. Collected from areas such as the Maradana railway station, the reuse of these disposed bottles cut in half and filled with soil gave a meaningful resemblance to the token whilst fulfilling the aim of upcycling and reducing the plastic wastage in the environment. COVID NATHI SUWA PAASALA Page 23 No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Rotaract as we all know has been helping people cope through the pandemic in various ways both mentally and physically. Launched on the 20th of August 2020, the project led to a wonderful experience and opportunity for us to reach a school of 29- 30 children with special needs called Pathum Uyana, located at Kalyanarama Purana Viharaya, Aluthgama. With the intention of eradicating the probable presence of the virus, we provided them with face masks, hand sanitizers and other sanitary items needed to prevent the virus. We were also able to educate them on how to stay safe during the pandemic. The funds which were needed for us to make this project happen was contributed by the generosity of our very own club members. Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya

PROJECT E-WASTE Majority of electronic products end up in landfills, and just 20% of e-waste is recycled and according to a UN study, about 50 million tons of e-waste was discarded worldwide. UN SDG such as Life on Land, Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities and Rotary Areas of Focus like Supporting Environment exist for this very reason. Recycling e-waste enables us to recover valuable metals and other materials from electronics while saving natural resources and contributing to reducing pollution. Although the contribution we could make to create an impactful change in this area, we were able to help our community be a part of the solution. Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya ASARANA SARANA Asarana Sarana was a project carried out by the Keltronix team of Rotaract Club of Kelaniya where underprivileged and injured people around Kelaniya and Kiribathgoda. Each member of the team provided two lunch packets each to contribute for this worthy cause. In the short term, he underprivileged and injured people in the streets were able enjoy a healthy and wholesome lunch. However, continue this activity on a regular basis with the help of the community to uplift the health and living status of underprivileged people. Page 24

ITUKAMA Itukama was a shramadana campaign to clean and dispose of waste at the Chanashramaya temple in Waragoda. The team members actively contributed to sweeping, trimming grown trees and plants, collecting garbage, and disposing of them properly to make the temple grounds cleaner and more serene. The objective of the project was to make the environment cleaner and more sustainable despite how simple the contribution was while setting an example to those around us. In the long run, launching an array of shramadana campaigns, keeping the environment and surroundings clean, making it easier and efficient. MAW WARUNA Page 25 Project Maw Waruna was an initiative to the Wanawasala Elders’ home and its surroundings while spending some quality time with them. An afternoon of hard work by the keltronix team led to an evening of unforgettable memories sharing stories, singing songs and dancing with a few amazing elderly people in the home. The objective of the project was to improve the health and living status of the elderly living in the elders’ home and reminisce good times with them and entertain them with our talents. The elderly women at the elders’ home were taken aback by their happy memories, and were indulged in an evening filled with fun, laughter, and songs. We believe that a long term impact exists as well; Enlighten the society with the joy and satisfaction projects as such would bring will encourage them to continue doing the same Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya

THINK PINK Inspired by the sessions done by ‘The Cancer Early Detection Centre (CEDC) of the National Cancer Control Program’ for the past 6 years with Think Pink Program of Rotaract Club of Kelaniya, we have decided to produce this animated video which can serve the betterment of a wider community. The video has explained the tests you can do step by step in a home environment. As the phase one of our program, our plan for this tutorial is to send it across a wider community in Sri Lanka and spread the message to our mothers and sisters. We have used a simple language in this video tutorial (Sinhala) and animated graphics to understand each test. RAC Kelaniya was able to accomplish a host of SDG and focus areas such as Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequality, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Breaking the Social Stigmas, etc. SANTA’S GOOD LIST Good Health and Well-being, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Economic and Community Development are very frequently cited UN sustainable development goals. This particular project was no less focused on these objectives. Santa's Good List was a joint project organized by the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya and the Rotaract Club of Central Campus to open an opportunity for everyone to engage and showcase their talents in cooking, creativity, music and art with the motive to spread peace, harmony and joy among the society and raise the Christmas spirit. Looking 3 steps ahead, Rotaract Club of Kelaniya gained a great experience in working together with our brother club, the Rotaract Club of Central Campus. CHRISTMAS WISH 2020 The spirit of Christmas lies in the spirit of generosity. For those who can afford it, there's endless opportunities to give someone a Merry Christmas. And for those who are already living on a shoestring budget, you'd be surprised at how much you can do. Annual Christmas Wish Donation is one of our signature projects executed every December. This year due to COVID restrictions we could not visit the communities in need up until January. However, we were able to donate stationary for twenty children who are studying in the Primary School of Gonawala Kelanitissa Vidyalaya, Kelaniya. Quality Education, No Poverty, Basic Education and Literacy are objectives that guided us in this regard. As the only community-based club in Kelaniya it is our duty to serve our own community we are based in and look after. MAHADAN BLOOD DONATION Page 27 CAMPAIGN With the approaching of the World Rotaract Week, The Rotaract Club of Cinnamon Gardens along with The Rotaract Clubs of NSBM, Kadawatha, CFPS Law School, Centennial United, Jaela- Kadana and Kelaniya, organized the blood donation campaign \"Mahadan\". The project was held on the 13th of March 2021 at The National Blood Bank, Narahenpita. With a total of 148 volunteers present to donate blood. As they say \"One pint can save 3 lives”, an outstanding amount of 123 pints of blood was donated saving a hopeful amount of 369 lives. The primary objective of the project stands out as representation of social responsibility among our communities as Rotaractors and also as valuable citizens of Sri Lanka showing the true sense of humanity. Annual Report 2020/2021 - RAC Kelaniya

DEFEND THE OCEAN At face value, “Defend the Ocean” is a coastal clean-up project on removing trash from the beautiful Modara beach. However, the scope of the project goes beyond Rotaractors cleaning a beach. “Defend the Ocean” also acts as a social awareness project by spreading the word of what our community did for the environment by sharing photos, posts, and information. What started as a club project (“Defend the Ocean 1.0”), evolved into a joint project to further the scope this time around. Defend the Ocean 2.0 was done in collaboration with 5 Rotaract Clubs namely Kadawatha, Centennial United, IIT, Wattala, and Jaela-Kandana. Moreover, we had the support and patronage of 2 leading environmental advocacy groups in our country; GreenMap Sri Lanka and Better Ocean. The SDG impacted? Climate Action , Life on Land , Life below water,Supporting Environment, Water and Sanitation CHARITY ACTION NIGHT Charity Auction night was organized by Rotaract Club of Kelaniya in order to fund the annual donation of the Think Pink Project. Although the pandemic situations do not allow us to visit the cancer hospital, the generous support of the club members who contributed with various items, provided us with a good sum of donations which will be allocated to upcoming think pink projects. CLUB SERVICE Page 29 Rtr. Inuri Galhena Director - Club Service RAC Kelaniya 2020/2021 It was my pleasure to take up the position as a joint club service director for the second consecutive time after being the club service director for the year 2019-2020 as well. I personally enjoy bringing people together and strengthening our bond as a family which I strongly believe is the backbone of any successful club. Great membership and a strong friendship among members always helps to do more and more projects to help the community and also to develop ourselves as individuals and have fun as a club. This year was one of the hardest years as the corona virus hit us in the very beginning of the year and still continues to lock us up indoors. However, amidst of all this chaos we manage to do many projects and end this year in a successful note. It was a year full of new experiences and challenges which kept us all engaged and the online events such as zoom open mics throughout the year made us closer as a family and gave a platform for all our members to showcase their talents while having fun. All in all it was a great year full of loving memories to cherish for the years to come. Thank You for this opportunity and I wish all the very best for the incoming board members. BLAST FROM THE PAST A Blast from the Past is a club service project organized by the Rotaract club of Kelaniya with the aim to reminisce and bring back the cherished memories of the origination of the Rotaract Song, a discussion with two of the Past DRR’s, PDRR Indika Fernando and PDRR Jacke Diasz from the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya. ‘A blast from the past’ could be a milestone of gathering more Rotaractors to the movement by showing them the journey and the hardships faced by the Rotaract and the importance of fellowship. DEAR BESTIE! Dear Bestie! was a friendly project by the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya to rejoice and re- join with friends in the Rotaract movement by sharing their thoughts and love through the Instagram platform. The project was launched in two main processes, First asking Rotaractors to send their messages to their Rotaract best friends through the Instagram questions to RAC Kelaniya page, and then these messages were shared on Instagram stories with pictures of friends in Rotaract and friends of Rotaract. FEEL TO HEAL Mental wellbeing is a state of well-being where people recognize their own strengths, deal with common pressures of their lives, perform productively and fruitfully and contribute to their society. This project was done to recognize our feelings and appreciate them, and why they are so powerful at times. The goal was to create peace, harmony and spread love between friends in Rotaract. Identifying and examining critical issues that are not sufficiently handled within the international mental health field as well as plan, support and enforce action measures to increase public understanding and policy focus aligned us with SDG goals; Partnerships to achieve the Goal, Good Health and Well-being as well as Rotary areas of focus, Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution. FAITH MATTERS As the impact of the global coronavirus (COVID- 19) pandemic grows, local peace builders continue working to help communities break through cycles of violent conflict. To that end, Rotaract club of Kelaniya joined hands with Coimbatore Unique India to discuss the importance of this timely topic. Aligning ourselves with SDG Goal 16 (goal dedicated to the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development) and Rotary Area of Focus, Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, guided a very productive seminar. WARADA KOTHANADA - STI SERIES Warada Kothanada is not just a \"Project\". It is a ''program'' which creates a social/civic dialog in the society on unspoken and unheard topics. The programs uniqueness stems from the fact that it branches out into almost every other avenue and align itself with multiple SDG and Rotary Areas of Focus; Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequality, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic and Community Development and Disease Prevention to name a few. The program started as a STD (Sexually transmitted diseases /Illnesses) awareness series in order to educate the society on the existing STDs and as an attempt to erase the social stigma about STD.
