q(\"fl'!! ~ ~T~ ~ (~~~ctil~~. m«f~) ATOMIC ENERGY EDUCATION SOCIETY ( An Autonomous Body under Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India ) P. Lahiri Secretary MESSAGE It is with great pleasure that I congratulate AECS-6 on publishing their annual e-magazine ' ANUSPLASH' fot the year 2020-21. The e- magazine becomes a stark reflection of the school, its ideologies, the foundations it is based upon and the extensive talent that the institution has been able to breed. I would like my message to the readers to be a reminder that such written documents like magazines and books become not just a manuscript filled with words but also filled with places and people to meet. The power of such means of communication can serve as a great start for the students and teachers to voice their ideas and communicate their vision with the readers. A poem can have feelings embedded and a story likewise can have a moral attached but the very courage to write and express gives the creator that authority to explore the most creative of spaces and bring it in front of self and the rest of the world. As AECS-6 comes out with a set of new ideas and visions, I express my due appreciation to the dedication and hard work that has gone into documenting the thoughts of individuals who are set towards the marking a change in the world. FROM PRINCIPAL’S DESK Dear Students, Parents, Teachers, Alumni and Well Wishers, Welcome to our second edition of ‘ANUSPLASH’. The aim of education is not only to excel in aca- demic field, but to provide our students with knowledge and understanding that would nurture the spiritual, aesthetic, cultural and emotional dimensions in them. It is my deep conviction that educa- tion must help to raise the individual to high level of consciousness, awareness and understanding of the realities of today. The magazine provides an opportunity for that either by contributing to it or even as a reader because it contains the success stories of the students and staff and the glimpses of activities the students, parents and teachers were part of. I congratulate the editorial team responsi- ble for bringing out the second edition. With regards, T Elango

MESSAGE FROM VICE -PRINCIPAL K R RAO “Education is not about learning of facts but training young minds to think” - Albert Einstein. As the Vice Principal of AECS-6, Mumbai my primary focus is students’ learning. School is a temple of learning and at AECS-6, Mumbai, we are making our best efforts to give quality education to our students. We try to work towards holistic development of our students by providing them experiential learning that encourages our students to think critically. The aim of our school is to help our students to grow into fine human beings who are capable of facing challenges of the present world. A school is a place where students begin to learn lessons of life. Learning is indeed a lifelong process. We, educators being facilitators should always encourage each student to develop in their special fields of interest. We should realise the fact that all students do not have same tal- ent /potential and so each one will achieve their success differently. Education plays an important role in enabling a person to face a real-life situation with adequate knowledge. The aim of education is to create empowered minds so that students are able to decide what is good for them and also can differentiate between right and wrong. The vision of our school is to prepare students to become professionally competent citizens having concern for others. Special emphasis is placed on forming students with moral val- ues, for all round development of the personality of the students and to make them com- petent At present situation school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to motivate and empower its students to be lifelong learners, productive members and critical thinkers of an everchanging global society. Our school gives special attention to the conduct of Co- Curricular activities, Physical training, NCC, Interactive club activities like literature club, science club and mathematics club etc, and the school choir to become competent citizens to live in pluralistic society. Our school is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure facilities to provide holistic educa- tion. Dear students, it is my message to you all that the people of fine character live by their values. They are honest and are committed to truthfulness in thought, word and deed. True character thus encompasses the capacity for self-discipline- character creates self-respect, which in turn leads to high self-esteem. “Education is a shared responsibility between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectation”. This magazine before you is the combined efforts of the editorial board. I take this oppor- tunity to thank all the contributors because it is their contributions that make this maga- zine endearing with our readers.

HEADMISTRESS SPEAKS It gives me immense pleasure to know that our school is releasing its first E- mag- azine ‘Anusplash’ Covid -19 has forced educational institutions across the globe to suspend physical classrooms and shift to online classes. Inspite of many challenges like weak ac- cess to internet network, device issues, we tried to keep our students active in aca- demics as well as co-curricular activities through virtual modes like interactive sessions, email groups, whatsapp groups, video conferencing platforms and Google classrooms. Thanks to technology!!!! As said by Aristotle, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no educa- tion at all.” I believe that every child is unique and has unique potential. AECS-6, Mumbai always strives to provide opportunity to explore their talent and skill. With the right blend of activities and academics we instill in our students values such as honesty, a sense of self worth, tolerance, humanity and of course self discipline. “ Education is not just about classes. It is about interactions, broadening of ideas, debates and mentoring of each student”. We are fortunate to have supportive management, committed and dedicated teach- ers and co-operative parents which blend harmoniously to create a child centric school. I congratulate the entire team of e-magazine for their hard work and dedication that has resulted in the publication of this issue of the magazine. Ashwini G. Nagrale Headmistress AECS-6, Mumbai

EDITORIAL The members of the Editorial Board consider it a privilege to be instrumental in bringing out the second edi- tion of the School Magazine “Anusplash”. The year has been one with a difference full of unprecedented events and experiences. Experiences and memories which both the young and old generation will carry for- ward for years to come in different names- Covid, Pandemic, Corona. We also consider this publication a spe- cial one in the context of students, parents and teachers. Going through the literary pieces, we will find some of them repetitive, they being centred around this theme. Yet in the given context, they have their relevance. Hence we have deliberately kept the cover design highlighting the speciality of the year and captioned it as the Year of E-Learning. We feel as if we have been indoctrinated regarding the lessons this Covid time has taught us. The materials in the media have been massive and grinding. As a teacher , from my experience and interaction with the students, only one thought stands out for me. One question that I would like to ask the students is “What has been your priority?”. I mean your CHOICE. Sud- denly you became the masters of technology. You got a mobile phone/laptop with internet connectivity 24 /7 without any real control or supervision from the elders. I am asking you this because I have a student who hardly attended my online-classes. Whenever I checked, she/he was online. I learnt that he/she has an android phone. He/She was the only student who posted Happy New Year Greetings in the group on January 1 2021.Very active on whatsapp. Whenever I called She/he herself/himself picked up the phone. Let me not delve into the excuses given by the student for not attending the classes. Evidently all were lame excuses. I certainly conclude it is a case of FREEDOM MISUSED. I therefore repeat my question. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CHOICE DURING THIS YEAR? Let that question linger in your mind to make the right choices in your life in the years to come. I strongly believe that what you will be in future is what you choose today. Away from this personal reflection, the magazine has once again provided a platform to the students and teachers to showcase their literary talents and artistic skills. The school also uses this platform to present be- fore you the major achievements and events of the academic year-2020-21. We congratulate and appreciate all the students who have contributed to the content of this publication. We wish all of you a happy reading and pray that everything rolls back to normalcy soon. Life Before And After Co-Vid 19 K R RAO VICE-PRINCIPAL AECS-6, MUMBAI Remember the days when everyone wanted a break from their daily lives-when everyone was fed up of the same repetitive schedule and wanted to have some free days; when they would contemplate about their lives or just go on a holiday to rejuvenate themselves. Nowadays, nearly every trending article starts with,’ Once upon a time people shook hands and stood next to each other.’ Walking up at early morning and rushing to schools and offices to reach in time while eating the leftover bread on your way used to be the normal back those days. Yes, that was the pre-covid era when people at least for once in their life must have dreaded at the sight of a Monday. But now, after covid got the whole world on its knees, our wishes did get granted, but in a different way. Once the lockdown was an- nounced, we got introduced to the concepts of working from home and online classes and due to this, we became more family oriented since we were spending more time with our families than workplaces and schools. It was evident that we were heading to- wards a digital revolution 2.0 but again, it had its own share of pros and cons. Now even post covid, social distancing is going to be an important part of our lives. Students or adults who hit rock bottom due to depression from solitude are finally recovering since schools and tuitions are slowly starting. Regular sanitizing habits got imbibed in even the ones who were careless regarding hygiene, and now face masks are just as normal as our casual clothing. If not for internet and technology, our lives would have been unimaginable. Biotechnology will garner more attention as a potential field and career since the development of the covid vaccines along with the help of scientists. The system around us has definitely changed a lot and we can only hope that the change is for the better. Maybe we will again start standing next to each other and shake hands again, after a few months or even years.

THE MILKMAN Sreevatsan Sunil, 9M My phone rings. It’s Zomato. The delivery boy speaks in a low tone, “Sir, your order is here.. Please collect it from the ground floor.” I cut the call and put on my mask. I slowly open my front door and squirm my ears as the door opens with a creaking noise. I slowly walk out of the house, humming a tune from DDLJ in my head. I feel someone standing behind me. I slowly turn around. There’s no one! I rubbish all my Hollywood horror thoughts as I begin to walk down the stairs. I try to walk down the stairs as fast as possible but I feel the strap of my slipper rubbing off a week-old wound on my ankle. I slowly bend down and straighten the strap. As I slowly look up, I see someone standing in front of me. Somebody with his feet full of blisters, covered with blood. I gasp. I feel the droplets of sweat flowing off my forehead. I remember the last time I had watched conjuring. The image of that doll flashes in front of my eyes. I hear a lady crying from a distance. I hear a car crashing with a truck. The car blasts! “Stop!”, I say to myself. I slowly get up. There’s nobody. Not a single soul is standing in front of me. I’m the only one on the whole floor. It takes me a minute to digest the fact that all I just saw was of my wild imagination. I wipe the sweat off my forehead and run down the stairs chanting some weird prayers in my head. I pick up my packed food kept in the ground floor and quickly run up the stairs. I finally reach the 3rd floor. But something tells me to turn around and look back. I gasp and turn back. It’s the same man! The man with blisters all over his feet. He stares at me with his red eyes. I sigh and ask him with all my guts, “Who are you?” He replies with a smile, “I deliver milk to your neighbour everyday.” I sigh, “Oh, I really didn’t know that. Really sorry uncle.” I at last have a smile on my face. I slowly walk into my house. I spot my mom attending an online meeting, sitting on the bed. As I remove my slippers and enter the room, my mom looks into my eyes and removes her headphone. She gasps and says, “Did you hear the news? Our neighbour aunty’s milkman was murdered yesterday it seems.” My heart races faster than ever as the food package drops off my hand and the soya sauce spills all over the floor. And I almost lose half of my life as someone rings the bell.

THE MAGIC POTION DHANANJAY Borse ,10 M Long ago, there lived a renowned hermit on the mountain to the South of Chile . He was excellent in the preparation of magical potions and lucky charms . One day, a young wom- an, Junn came to him . She seemed to be in great agony and was seeking help . Without opening his eyes he enquired, “What brings you here ?” Junn replied, “The reason which brings me here is my sadness. Please make me a potion of remedy.” She kept beg- ging but the sage did not open his eyes . At last he raised his head and asked , “What is the problem?” She replied that for the past few years, her husband had been fighting a war and now that he had returned from the battle, he had stopped communicating with the family. He replied very rudely if con- versed with. When served with his favourite food , he turned his head away. He looked blankly at the sea into the space. She told him that he had completely withdrawn and now even the children were sacred of him and tried to maintain their distance . The hermit explained that when men returned from war after a long time, it took them some time to settle back to their normal lives. But the lady insisted on the potion and didn’t seem to be willing to settle for anything lesser than that. She wanted to make her husband as loving and caring as before. The hermit agreed and asked the lady to get a tiger’s whisker which was the key ingredient to make the potion, the only condition being the whisker should be of a living tiger. Junn recoiled, frightened at the prospect, to which the hermit replied, ”If the potion is important to you, then get- ting the whisker won’t be as tough.” Now, day and night she had only one thought. She gathered courage and went upto where tigers lived. She went near a tiger’s cave and held out meat and rice. She repeatedly called but the tiger did not come. Tired Junn came back. The next night Junn went right upto the tiger’s den. She called him again. By now the tiger had become familiar with the voice. It peeped out but did not step out. Each night Junn tried. Eventually one night the tiger stepped out and came to Junn. He ate the meat and rice while Junn spoke softly and soothing tones to him. Just as a mirror reflects as a man's face his personality is reflected in his choice of friends. One must always be careful in forming friendships and acquaintances, for one’s friends, are in a way, an extension of one’s inner inclinations and tendencies CHANAKYA

This went on each night. Two months later she had gathered enough familiarity and strength to stroke the tiger gently on the forehead. One night she requested the tiger if he could give her a whisker. The wild animal did not move an inch while she petted out one whisker and immediately ran to hermit who observed it very carefully and went to the fire and dropped it in . While she stood there wondering why the burnt it, he told her how she had won over a wild animal and tamed it through soft- ness and affection. Junn cried that by putting the whisker in fire the hermit had ruined her effort, to which he replied that a man is more fierce and unpredictable than tiger . Just as she had won over the tiger’s confidence, she should do the same with her husband. She was dumbstruck completely . There was enlightenment in her heart. She treasured the hermit’s pearls of wisdom and went home. She realized that the magic potion was within her and decided to put in to use on her husband. BRAIN TEASERS!!!! 1. The missing CHILHOOD If we are to teach real peace in this Darsh Mondal , 9 M world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children: Mahatma Gandhi India is unfortunately the home to the largest numbers of child labours in the world. Chil- dren below the age of 14 years are said to be child labors. In India, childrens are em- ployed for construction work, in homes as domestic help, in factories and in fields. In Andhra Pradesh alone, around 400000 childrens, mostly girls toil for fourteen to sixteen hours a day in the fields. In Karnataka, children are employed in the mining industry. Poor children are also employed either as servants or in some factory like the Zari, Cracker making or embroidery industry. All this is going on inspite of the ban on child labour by the government. After all, what is the reason behind this kind of torture towards children? Poverty and so- cial insecurity are the main causes of child labour. Lack of quality education has also led to children dropping out of school and entering the labour force. A major concern is that the actual number of child labourers goes undetected. Laws that are meant to protect children from this social evil are ineffective and not implemented correctly. A growing trend in the urban areas is the employment of children as domestic help. There are cases of the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of child domestic workers. In spite of the notification by the Ministry of Labour, using children as domestic worker as well as employment of children in Dhabah, tea stalls and restaurants as `hazardous occupations’, there has been no change in the scenario. It is high time we all realise that a child’s place is in a classroom and not in a factory. The people of the society should come together and work to improve the situation of child La- bour in India.

K. R. ANAMITRA , 10 N EVERYDAY THAT PASSES At home, by the dining table, I watch my mother’s hands spin like a fable, The yarns of meals & housework, Which for me is a mark of duty & obligation of her needlework. At any moment, in the middle of a city out of astonishment, In this world beyond the curtains, something was stirring, With millions of epiphanies occurring. Every time I travel, I got a chance to meet myself a little more & unravel, The mysteries that taught me to be bold, Cos I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep and unfold. Life taught me that no one makes our life more or less, But also reminded me; never to forget to show our faithfulness, You’ll see your life going like a cascading waterfall, Flowing over & above every fall. When I stopped searching for home within others, And lifted the foundations of a home within myself, I realized there were no roots more intimate and affectionate, Than those between a mind & body that made me feel fortunate.

A Student’s Life Shreya Gupta (VI N) A student’s life, sure is nice- Its sugar, spice and everything nice. It’s crying over coming tests, And repenting over lost pens. Doing the homework which was to be submitted last week, And sitting at the last bench on the last hectic week. Listening to the songs by Taylor Swift, And polishing the skills of making excuses short and crisp. It’s crying over coming tests, And repenting over lost pens. A student’s life, sure is nice- Its sugar, spice and everything nice. Corona virus Arusha Saraswat Class- 7M Today we all know that corona virus is very harmful. In this type of virus we should take care that we have to wear mask and gloves. And we have to maintain 2m [6feet] so- cial distance from each other. Our prime minister has also declared lookdown for 3months. We have to wash our hands for 20 seconds and sanitize our hands regularly. Common signs of infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing diffi- culties. In severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiration syn- drome, kidney failure and even death.

Football George K George, 7M Football is an outdoor game played all over the world. This game is also known as soccer in other parts of the world. It is a simple game to learn but very hard to master. It is played between countries, and also between clubs in every country like La Liga. The game involves 2 teams with 11 players each and is played on a rectangular football field with goal posts at opposite ends. The teams have to try and score goals in the opponent’s goal post. The team which scores the most goals wins. Each player has a defined role, the person guarding the goal is called the goalkeeper. There are other players who help in defending as well , they are called defenders. The players who try and score are called strikers. There are also people who can both attack and defend, who are called midfielders. The ease of organizing a game and the lack of expensive equipment required make it extremely popular. It is actually the most popular sport in the world. This has also made it a route for many children from poor backgrounds to become rich. Many of the most popular players now like Messi, Ronaldinho etc. have come from very poor backgrounds. The rivalries between clubs make the game more intense, like Liverpool vs Manchester United or between countries like Brazil vs Argentina. The fans support their teams with great passion. It is extremely interesting when the tides turn in the favour of the losing side for this results in amazing comebacks. This game is famous all over the world but particularly in South America. They produced many world class players like Maradona, Pele, Messi, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo. Many great players are produced from Europe as well like Ronaldo and Iniesta. This is a game which provides thrills to both the players and the audience. The players also play their best with the support of their fans. For me football is the most exciting game in the world. Thank You
