LOT 167 99 10C 1858-O PCGS MS66+ CAC The FINEST PCGS graded 58-O dime and it is a gorgeous coin! There are just not enough superlatives to describe this GEM! A vibrant satin luster shinesthrough salmon-orange, teal-blue, and rose-gold patina on both sides. This coin displays a razor sharp, crispstrike on both sides. While the experts have described the 58-O as being weakly struck and lackluster, this coin is the exact opposite. LOT 169 101 10C 1858-S PCGS MS63 CAC A deeply toned and ORIGINAL example, tied for second finest at PCGS. Very pretty olive, russet, and variegated forest green hues are brought to life by a soft underlying luster. The details are bold and overall this coin is extremely attractive. The advanced Seated dime collectors know that this is a date that was not saved. All 60,000 coins went right into circulation and they remained there for years; problem-free VFs are now approaching four-figure values. This is one of the more challenging dates to find in any grade, and particularly so in Mint State. PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 1. This is the coin that sold for $18,800 in 2013. Before this coin sold, you have to go back to March 2006 to find another example sold inauction. Needless to say, there are not many finer, there is an NGC MS64 and NGC MS65 and a single PCGSMS66 finer (which sold for $88,125 in June 2014!). The current PCGS Value is $24,000. A moderate mellow totally original mix of blue/pewter colors swirls all over. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and are sharply struck. The eye appeal is fantastic! Only 11,000 were minted. PCGS 3, NGC 4. The ONLY record of an MS66 selling is for a CAC piece, which brought $17,625 in June 2014 and the current Collectors Universe value is $14,500. This is a date and grade seldom seen. LOT 175 10C 1872-CC PCGS AU53 All dimes struck in Carson City prior to 1875 are rare. They had limited mintages, and the few that came off the presses, went right into the wild west economy and remained in circulation for many years. Your typical survivor is low grade, and often comes with damage such as corrosion, bends, or holes. The presently offered AU53 is a wonderful exception, and the 3rd finest graded at PCGS! A light lavender-lilac-silver color accentuates the wonderful, lightly worn surfaces. Aside from a few minor abrasions, we do not see any serious marks. The strike is bold and hints of luster remain in the protected areas of the design. PCGS 1, NGC 0. There are only 2 coins finer at PCGS, a single AU58, and a single MS63. The presently offered AU53 has not appeared in auction. Back in November 2014, a PCGS AU50 realized $15,275. The MS63 has sold for over $180,000, while the AU58 has never sold in auction. This is a VERY important Seated Liberty dime and an opportunity the advanced collector may never get again for quite a long time. The current Collectors Universe price is $22,500 and it would not be shocking if this coin surpassed that level. PCGS # 4567 | EST: $18,000+104

LOT 187 10C 1844 PCGS PR65 CAC EX SIMPSON In a sale with several early Proof rarities, this is a stand out. The 1844 dime has always had cache as a scarce date, dubbed the Orphan Annie dime. Scholars have estimated the mintage of this early Seated PR dime at 8, and the presently offered GEM is tied for FINEST certified by PCGS, and has an illustrious history, being the Eliasberg-Simpson coin. Described in the May 1996 Eliasberg catalog as follows: “ Possible finest known. Delicate champagne and iridescent toning over deep mirror fields. A spectacular coin which could hardly be exceeded in appeal by any other of the few known specimens.” Try as we might, there really is nothing to add to that succinct description, except to emphasize that the quality is unimprovable and this coin is ultra rare. PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 3. Clearly there is duplication at CAC. The other PCGS/CAC coin is the Pittman-Kaufman- Greensboro-Gardner coin that used to be an NGC PR66 (Gardner bought it for $64,625 in October 2012 and it sold in the October 2014 Gardner sale for $44,063). PCGS lists a value of $50,000 for this incredibly rare coin, it should be remembered that the current offering-the Eliasberg-Simpson coin- sold in the May 1996 Eliasberg sale for $88,000! With Ultra rare Seated Liberty coins currently discounted in the current market, this is a great opportunity to start a set; these early proofs rarely appear at auction, making a set a serious and exciting challenge for the advanced collector. LOT 190 10C 1895-O PCGS MS66 CAC EX SIMPSON A VERY HIGH END GEM 1895-O. You rarely see 1895-Os as satiny and lustrous as this, which leads us to believe that this coin has been well protected from the day it left the Mint. The surfaces have no marks of any kind, and you can only see a few light frost breaks with a strong glass. An above average luster shows off original moderate golden brown/creamy white colors. The eye appeal is superb! PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 1. There is one PCGS MS66+. Legend Numismatics bought this coin in 2005 for $41,400 and placed it directly into the Law Collection where it has resided until 2014. In 2014, this coin sold in our December 2015 sale for $44,650. Miss Liberty and the details are amazingly struck and stand out nicely. The eye appeal is superb. PCGS 7, NGC 4, CAC 1. PCGS has now graded 2 coins MS66+ with none higher. LOT 193 113 10C 1898-O PCGS MS67+ CAC EX SIMPSON This is one of the truly unsung coins in the incredible Law/Simpson collection. If you sit and study the population and appearance, you’ll quickly realize what an amazing coin this piece is. It is superior to all other 98-O’s we have ever seen. In fact, it probably ranks as one of the finest O mints that exists! At first glance, this coin looks more like a common later date than the finest known 1898-O! Outstanding, velvety, nearly flawless surfaces show only a smallplanchet impression on the obverse, while a remarkable full, booming luster shows off fully struck, frosty features. You rarely see O Mints in this condition. Both sides are frosty white with some speckles of light gold. The eye appeal is tremendous! PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. There are no MS67’s graded by PCGS or NGC, though NGC has graded one piece MS68, and a PCGS MS67 (no longer on the pop reports) sold at auction for $36,800 in 2005. How the current Collectors Universe became only $25,000 is a mystery to us. We believe a coin like this should easily be worth $50,000. LOT 239 25C 1820 BROWNING-4. SMALL 0. PCGS PR64 CAC EX NORWEB Extraordinary eye appeal from the dazzling toning is the first sign of quality. Toned in varying shades of teal, russet, magenta, and green, perfectly organized in rings of perfection by the ages. The surfaces are free of all but a few trace lines, to be expected on these extremely fragile mirror surfaces from generations of collectors who have admired this stunning rarity. The original mintage is estimated at 10 pieces; this is a best guess by the experts at CoinFacts. Today there are only five graded between both PCGS and NGC, with probable duplication in that tiny number. CoinFacts notes that only four examples are confirmed, one of which resides at the Smithsonian and is off the market. Even more remarkable is the fact that three different die pairings were used to strike these Proofs, which must have been made to order, literally one at a time! The obverse die has perfectly executed this coin, with strong mirror fields which cause the devices to float over the glassy perfection. Notice the perfectly formed clasp on Miss Liberty’s dress with the formal script “JR” for the designer John Reich apparent. The reverse too is bold throughout, with a mirror like finish but more satiny on the devices. The strike is bold on that side as well, save for the claws which show a hint of softness. Both dies show traces of die rust, yet were clearly highly polished to produce this numismatic delicacy. Of further interest is the fact that this may be one of the first Proof quarters struck by the Philadelphia Mint, as no other dates prior to 1820 have been confirmed to offer Proof finishes of this denomination. This specimen has resided in several the most famous collections of the past century including Earle, Ryder and Norweb and will undoubtedly find a happy new home when it crosses the block. As impressive as this sounds already, the full provenance is more so: George Earle Collection (Chapman, June 1912); Hillyer Ryder; Wayte Raymond; Louis Eliasberg (duplicates from his monumental collection sold in New Netherlands June 1957); Norweb Family; Norweb Collection (Bowers and Merena, March 1988); Superior’s Session of Auction ’90; 1993 ANA Auction; Whitney Summerland Collection (Bowers and Merena, March 1994); Superior September 2008; Heritage August 2012, where it sold for $88,125. Imagine how cool it is that this coin has been a part of all these famed collections, and can now be yours! PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 2. Currently there are four Proof Small 0 examples currently traced: NGC PR67 B-1; NGC PR64 B-1; the presently offered PCGS PR64 CAC; and the uncertified B-2 in the Smithsonian. There are other coins that were cataloged as Proof in the past, but their present whereabouts are unaccounted for, and may well be PL circulation strikes. This is the ONLY B-4 in Proof known. For all intents and purposes this coin is unique. Combine its rarity, awesome provenance, and bold visual appeal, and you have a centerpiece for any Capped Bust quarter collection.
