Keep in mind that a coin could be either low or high end for the grade, have stunning color or be dull, all of which radically affect a coin’s value. Yes, there can be huge price differences within a grade, and we offer estimates as a guide so Collector’s can have a better idea of value. One thing we will never do is offer low ball estimates in order to claim stronger sales. These published estimates represent what Legend Rare Coin Auctions determines to be an approximate high wholesale value for the coin. The numbers are based upon current market values, similar trades, auction prices, published prices, and a consideration of the coin’s quality. LOT 460 H10C 1837 NO STARS, SMALL DATE. PCGS MS67 CAC This SUPERB GEM is worthy of the FINEST Type or Half Dime set! Sensational surfaces are pretty much the epitome of perfection-even when using a strong glass. We will note what looks like a scratch on the reverse is clearly IN the die (breaks no details). The surfaces have a superb satiny texture. A bold luster swirls all over. The luster enhances totally original moderate shades of golden brown/reddish gold that partially cover the coin. This is NOT a dull coin in any way. Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and are fully struck. The eye appeal is great! PCGS 6, NGC 4, CAC 5. The last PCGS piece to sell in auction was a NON CAC. That coin brought $28,200 in March 2017. Even an NGC CAC piece brought $22,325-back in 2014. Do not think these are easy to find. LOT 505 25C 1853 ARROWS AND RAYS. PCGS MS66 CAC A wonderfully original and eye appealing GEM example of this important one year type coin. A razor sharp strike brings all the details of Ms. Liberty’s face, hair, drapery, and all of the other intricate devices are fully defined. Boldly accented by the extraordinary underlying mint bloom, olive, tan, and gold toning really comes to the forefront of the viewer’s attention. While common in most grades thanks to a generous mintage of over 15 million, in ultra high grade like this, the number of survivors are in the in the single digits. The Arrows and Rays type came about under the terms of the 1853 Coinage Act, which reduced the weights of silver coins. This was in response to the wholesale export and melting as the silver content was worth more than face. To make these new standard coins differentiate from earlier issues, arrows were placed next to the date, and a burst of rays above the eagle. Due to striking issues, the rays were removed in 1854. PCGS 9, NGC 7, CAC 2. This remarkable coin was sold in July 2005 for $32,200. Purchased by noted Seated coinage collector, Gene Gardner, this coin was more recently resold in the June 2014 sale of the Gardner Collection for $35,250. This is the only CAC approved example in this grade to ever sell in auction. Only two coins are graded finer at PCGS, both MS67. The most recent example to sell in January 2005 for $56,350.
